We share our authentic experience of life on wheels in one of the world's hottest environments. If you're a fellow traveler, adventure enthusiast, or simply curious about life on the road, don't miss out on this heatwave survival journey through the heart of the Outback and into the unique and fascinating town of Coober Pedy, where the people live underground to escape the temperatures. Drawn to the area for Opal Mining it has a wild west feeling, but the people have hearts of gold (or opal :P) We ultimately cannot stay safe in the van at such high temps and seek refuge in one of the dug out (cave like) rooms. Learn from our mistakes as you see the challenges of Van Life in Coober Pedy in the Aussie summer.

⤈ WHO WE ARE ⤈
We are Philly and Keely and we live full time in our tiny home on wheels Martha. After building our DIY home in a Citroen Relay camper we spent a year living on the streets of London before quitting our jobs only to be met with lockdown. Then we took our van further than she had ever been before to the very beautiful Turkey. Enroute, we stopped off in Spain for a few weeks where we experienced every van lifers worst nightmare, we were robbed and they stole all valuables in our van. But then we were back on our feet, fully MOT'd and back on the road through Europe before we experienced another vanlife nightmare... our van caught fire!! After the trauma of that we had a massive change of plan and made our way to Japan. We enjoyed a three-month Japanese Adventure and then got back to Martha for some new European Adventures. After an incredible three-month Scottish road trip, we have now packed up our van and are heading to Australia for a new van life adventure!

I genuinely get excited every Sunday to watch your new video. Thank you so much for sharing! Also, having lived in a van in Florida in the summer with no AC (only 38°C but 98% humidity 😬) made these last few videos very relatable. Great video as always guys, so many memories for me there. The campsite of dirt you stayed at was where I had an argument with the owner, him telling me that we were in a camper van, not a camper trailer. We got charged less for 2 nights as he was convinced that the thing we were towing and living in was not smaller than just a little van. Heat had got to old mate methinks!

Oof I remember the hottest heat I’ve ever been in was in Australia, New Year’s Day 2006 (don’t start mathing on me Keely, we’re both robocop babies and that’s all I wanna say about my age 🫣😂) and it was 49C. Omg I was hungover and thought I genuinely might die. When you said “Am I in a kiln?” It all came flooding back. Your brain honestly can't comprehend the heat, it's like you know it's going to be hot, but you can't fathom your core itself being hot, we just have no point of reference being from Ireland, even all the hot countries I've been in on holidays, nothing compares to the outback heat, it just hits different 😂 I think it's because no amount of shade or wind helps, it's EVERYWHERE 🥵🥵🥵

Ahhhh look at you two sneakies, you went underground hahahaa! Good bloody choice that. I am alike you guys, dark dark rooms are blissful when you absolutely need sleep, they suck you in, i call them Vampire days! It's incredible how these areas that don't have anything to look at, 2 hour drive feels like half a damn day of driving. I have felt that type of heat, and its beyond debilitating and absolutely draining. Fires in the NT are part of the normal land regeneration and left to burn out, it happens alot, and I saw plenty heading into Kakadu National Park, it is alarming when you aren't aware of it. Glad you survived, kept your humor and danced in the rain. Ranger loveheart Keely. The names growing... Yo da bes guys!

I watch so many people advertise this AG1 you know it costs over £2.50 per day every day per person thats over £900 a year. Who has that kind of money on top of the normal bills.. Why cant these companies make it so the people that need it can afford it..
@phillyandkeely

It's the same with organic vegetables and real fruit juice not sugary crap, food without palm oil and canola oil etc. Stuff that is bad for us is cheap and plastic wrapped in bright colours to entice us, it's kind of depressing isn't it! Being healthy and looking after your body is harder than ever, I don't know how people can buy good food and pay sky high gas and electricity prices, while the companies make record profits. If money is an issue which it is for pretty much everyone living a 'normal' life then the absolute best free things we can do for our health is exercise and drink water. Sadly access to vitamins rich foods, sugar free, seed oil free and pesticide free food has almost become a luxury.

Tourists are funny. The number of them I have come across in remote places and helped. Hire companies should be ashamed that they just hire them a 4x4 and off they go. No warnings No water supply to last them a week No first-aid kits, Only one spare wheel, Nothing. Anyway, you two look to be having a great old time. Keep safe and make sure you have the right gear in the van to deal with anything Australia will through at you. 👍

Yeah I reckon people should have to pass an awareness course or something to be released into the wild in Australia 🤣🤣 people need a handbook, numbers to call, deadly animals to recognise, what supplies to bring, what to do in case of emergency etc. Thanks so much for the advice ❤️❤️

@@phillyandkeely You are welcome. I just did a video on a water filter system every outback traveller should have. Go have a look at that. That heat is insane! Think I've experienced 42 in Death Valley and that was like being cooked alive, but I didn't have to sleep in a vehicle overnight in it, glad you made it through the heat wave. Philly is loving that shirt with moustaches, it's in every episode!! Keely, I think you should do a special video on some maths problem, to prove you're actually really clever not just accident prone! I could never get my head round differential equations in A level maths, maybe do one on that, it might go viral for kids trying to do their homework!!

Aww that's so lovely that you have an opal all the way from here! If we had a year long visa we could have come at a different season, but this is the visa we have so we gotta make it work. Apparently it's worse late Jan and Feb, so we planned to do it December so it hadn't got to it's most extreme yet, but didn't expect a heatwave haha
