This got rambly, but I have to say congrats on the cat! I hope he is lovely. 🖤 Thank you for making this video, I love seeing you in my notifications. 😊 Both ASD and CPTSD can exist at the same time, frustratingly enough, but brains always want a simple and clear-cut reason for everything. Autistic people are also much more likely to experience trauma and develop PTSD. I'm so sorry your doctor said that to you. What even is "the opposite of autistic", "extremely neurotypcal"?? A doctor once told me I could not be autistic because I have "reciprocal relationships", i.e. people I was friends with also wanted to be my friends and thought of themselves as my friends (spoiler alert: that is bs and I'm autistic). IMO, autistic people have extra wonderful and interesting ways of expressing themselves. We all have different strengths and weaknesses, including a wide range of verbal skills. Wanting to explain and over-explain is often a coping mechanism we learn to make up for communication deficits. It's definitely well-represented by the RGB color selection circle palette rather than a straight line between 'not autistic' and 'autistic'. Some people compare it to a soup, everyone has different ingredients and ratios of ingredients that make up their autism. For me, the autism was misdiagnosed as BPD for a long, long time, because ✨ AFAB ✨ and I'm still healing from the subsequent maltreatment. I hope you get the answers you are looking for to help you understand yourself better, and that your brain might rest a little easier at some future time.

I fully reckon you could be autistic, Kelela. I'm 29f and autistic. Just, i think you could be too 🤷🏻‍♀️🙂 I've been subscribed to you for ages and I've gotten autism vibes before 🙃 Whatever your label 🏷️ I think you seem like a lovely person! 😊 That being said, I have significant childhood trauma too and therefore CPTSD. You're right, there are so many overlapping traits, it's impossible to know for sure what's autism and what's CPTSD. As for your doctor saying you're likely the opposite because you can express yourself, 🙄 eye roll! Don't get me started on doctors and other professionals who don't know the first thing about autism! I express myself a LOT like you seem to in your videos. I'm told I'm super self-aware, wise, articulate, emotionally intelligent etc. I received my formal autism diagnosis when I was 15. I'm no professional, but your doctor shouldn't just rule it out based on that imo. Either way, kinda hope you do maybe look into autism more and perhaps pursue an autism assessment (if that's something you want etc). Even so, I hope you and your furbabies are well!! Give Billy all my love! 🐾😻

Even if you are autistic, the cptsd and it bounce off of each other and you are very allowed to be mad. regardless of it. i feel mad sometimes.

Good to hear from you :) You're allowed to be mad, and sad, and all the other things - awful things happened to you and opportunities were lost. It's in the anger you can find the fuel to keep going through the process (come to the Dark Side 🍪😉). But seriously: it is allegedly possible to do so. The transformation you've gone through, all the progress you've made - it inspires and gives hope because it shows that it's possible. Be safe

Even if you're not on the spectrum you are neurodiverse, yes bc of the CPTSD but also your brother is autistic so there's more likely some neurospicy is bouncing around ❤ But I get it. Been waiting 2yrs for a "formal" diagnosis of autism so I still grieve who I could have been WITH help and would there be less CPTSD? 🤔 Anyway... Hi ❤

From what friends on the spectrum and professionals have explained, trauma disorders can look similar but the behaviors mistaken for autism are actually trauma responses, so the source is different. In my case, I have a lot of friends on the spectrum and they explain that if I had it, I would likely exhibit some common symptom or behavior like stimming, or special interests, or a fear of change and a love of routine. I am actually sort of the opposite in these areas. I rotate my hobbies and interests because I get bored of them easily. I don’t really do anything that can be considered stimming, even in panic attacks. I have tried fidget toys at the advise of my friends and usually just put them down after a few seconds because my brain just doesn’t work that way. If I don’t break up my routine I will abandon it altogether because I get bored with doing the same thing every day, and I am usually the one begging others to try new things with me. Ultimately, I’m also super aware of social norms and when I am having issues and adhering to them becomes difficult in the moment, I’m painfully aware of it. I’m always scanning for body language and usually pick up hidden context clues, though my brain often misconstrues the meaning. When someone is annoyed because of a bad day at work I’ll pick up on it but turn it to ‘they are annoyed because they don’t like me.’ But I appreciate the fuck out if my friends on the spectrum because they get it, even if it’s for different reasons. Idk what sensory overload or a meltdown feels like but they recognize when I’m overwhelmed from my hyper vigilance, or when I’m having an emotional flashback and acting in a negative way due to it. All they need to know is ‘she is at her limit. Ask if she wants help or space,’ and I try and do the same.

I actually got told a few years ago "No, you're not autistic, it's just your C-PTSD" too. But that therapist was wrong, and I just recently got diagnosed with autism, and my therapist (who is much more informed/educated about autism) said it was very clear and definitive. People who are assigned female at birth are often overlooked because the diagnostic criteria was based entirely on young white boys. This problem persists in the medical field to this day. your doctor saying "the opposite of autistic" because you "express yourself" sounds like he may hold some misconceptions about autism. If for example he thinks that autistic people can only express themselves by yelling and throwing things, he may not be considering how autism looks in someone who is more female, and/or someone who had those responses traumatized out of them. But I'm just a random person with CPTSD and autism on the internet, I have no degrees or anything lol so take this with a grain of salt.

Considering that your doctor said that you’re the opposite of autistic because you express yourself well, your doctor does not have a solid understanding of autism.

I really like my doctor - aaaaand another thing just as true is that I agree with you and I’m thinking of asking for an appointment at the mental health clinic my brother visits (specializing in autism) to see what they think lol 😅💃

@@PostTraumaticVictory I get that, my favorite doctor I’ve ever had is actually pretty stupid about plenty of my dx. hope the clinic you go to is knowledgable about women and trauma surrounding it. they can suck. id also definitely look at how an autism diagnosis would effect you where you live (for me it would prevent adoption and firearm ownership) before pursuing it. self diagnosis is chill. good luck tho!
