This is real alpine off-piste skiing. Amazing. At this time of the year. But then you are so far up north in the ski-world. Keep up the good riding and stay safe out there. In Europe you would always wear avalanche backpacks with "beeps", shovels and probes as well as airbags (nowadays). How about Canada? Is it avalanche safe?
@nickskier1Күн бұрын
Going backcountry its absolutely necessary to carry a probe, shovel, and Avalanche beacons in Canada as well. You can see in the video too, most people carry hand radios to talk to each other in groups and follow safety guidelines to ensure the whole group doesn't get caught in an avalanche. Some people wear airbags, but they're expensive so not sure how popular they are.
@BeetsByHometownBrew21 сағат бұрын
Avalanche risk is high in many parts of the Canadian Rockies. even some on resort skiing is in avalanche prone areas. Lots of snow patrol, and avy control.
@riseandalpine19 сағат бұрын
Hey Martin! We are lucky to have lots of aggressive avalanche controlled off-piste terrain in North America. In this video in particular we were in the backcountry so we had all of the avalanche gear and training. Canadians are serious about avalanche safety.

Hi! Long time viewer, but seldom a commenter. These videos are always crazy amounts of fun! Always a ray of sunshine. Now, I always dig your song choices... and this time, the song or songs you used are so much fun that I had to google the lyrics. Incredibly, no matter what I search, I can't seem to find them! Can you tell me what songs you've put in for "up Montana Bowl" and "up Kokanee"? I just HAVE to know, now. It sounds like Rick Danko (The Band) and Jim Croce (?) found a slide guitar and listened to Sgt. Peppers all night. Or maybe the white album, I don't know. Hope you can help! Good luck on your powder hunting endeavours, although by the looks of it, you've got that under control. - (another) James

As an old, top heavy, skier I'd like to ask a huge favor. Whenever you get back to Whistler/Blackcomb could take a little time to put together a video of super chill, low input runs for old knees?

That would be a pretty cool video to put together. Chill but amazing runs.
@BeetsByHometownBrew17 сағат бұрын
Good call.
@daveytayNZ13 сағат бұрын
My dad loved a run called Cruiser on BlackComb, just my 2c. Personally all the groomed runs an Blackcomb are the bomb. Get them early and mid week and they just go and go with nice looping turns. Whistler's blues have a problem in that they go kind of across the mountain so it is two turns right and one left or the other way as you descend. The grooming is just as good but Blackcomb has cut the runs so they go DOWN!

James, I've been following you almost from the beginning of your youtube career, this video is the most beautiful of all you've made. The scenery in the introductory minutes was awesome. The scenery makes my skiing look like as though I'm on a bunny slope in eastern North America. From about 12:55 it looked as though you were traversing a very dangerous spot. Was it dangerous?
