I never worry about boil time. If a person can't wait 4 minutes or less for water to boil, they need a new hobby. Never been in such dire straits as to need a cup pf coffee in under 2 minutes😂. As long as the burner does it, no complaints. I can figure out something to do while it gets to temp.

I have 2 of these etna stoves I was so impressed with the first one I bought I got a second as a spare . I use them over a titanium pot and it boils water very fast and efficiently. Also it's very compact so fits in my brew kit easily .Big recommend from me .

Great video. My first winter camp was a week in February, in the snow 46 years ago all I could afford was a Bluet Stove which was rubbish because of the cold. Thankfully my mate had a Trangia which saved the day. We then progressed to Primus stoves which were fantastic but did struggle one year mountaineering in the Alps where it was difficult to buy paraffin. This time of year, I use a Trangia copy with a windshield slow but reliable in the cold weather. Keep up the good work, have fun.

I have a similar stove to this and its fantastic for boiling water, however they do seem to have a very narrow hotspot which means frying etc can be a bit of a chore as only the centre of the pan gets hot. Still, they are a great little item and great value for money.

I have a slightly larger Ohuhu stove that didn’t give me a single problem over a year’s worth of use in cold and rain. It has an ignition switch and will support using a heavier pan/pot if you want. Pack size is about 3.5” square and is dual fuel compatible with adapters.

I always cook on the lowest gas output I can. A high flame wastes heat that escapes around the sides of the pot/pan. A lower flame will boil almost as fast with less waste. Keeping lid on also increases boil time.

Learning from your experience and my own time camping out with other products, it seems that OEX is a good way to go to get started and to go on with for quite a while. This stove, very similar to other brands I have seen demonstrated, does the job well. Older campers will nod their heads as you mention changes in power due to the level of gas in a canister. Outside temperatures make a big difference in performance. I was so surprised the first season when I moved from summer into late autumn tenting: things took 'forever' to cook.

When I was a lad back in the energy shortages of the early 1970s there was a public information film that said only to heat the bottom of the pan as any flames going up the side are basically wasted. That is probably why your Vango stove has been designed to point to the middle of the base so that the heat spreads across the bottom. The Vango is on sale on Amazon at £12:80. That said, the OEX looks like a really powerful stove for the price and is quicker than the Vango which claims 4 minutes to boil a litre. The wider flame might be better for frying your bacon & eggs or steak faster and more evenly which is worth bearing in mind.

So basically, in case you want to boil half a liter of water. What is the consumption of gas? 1. run the gas cooker at maximum. 2. does the gas cooker run at a little under half? If time has no meaning, the gas and the burner are the same, the cup is the same, the water has the same temperature from the start and the air and weather conditions are the same. Which method is more economical? Gas costs so much... Greetings from the south coast of Finland. All the best Dan!

I have been curious about these, and the pot set up too in comparison to something like a Jet Boil... If you buy the pot, gas, canister stand and (as I do) throw in a spork & lighter, what is the overall weight? I assume the Jetboil (say minimo) and similar products will be heavier with the wind guard heat eliment design, but by how much? And then there is the trade-off between gas usage and having to carry a wind sheild?
@swiftyblueredblue715
@swiftyblueredblue715 Жыл бұрын
I can personally say from experience, I've had the MSR pocket rocket which was too expensive for what it is. I've had an OEX tacana which was okay ish. And I've had a couple other small stoves like the one in the video. The combination of all with these smaller stoves is a bit annoying at times. I didn't want to spend so much on a jetboil, but after 6 years using other stoves I got a jetboil zip for my first one just to see what they're like. I can tell you, the weight is nothing at all. You won't notice the difference when you include the gas etc. The design of the jetboil is what makes it so good. It'll boil sometimes in just over 1:30 (depending how much liquid). It's designed to store everything inside the pot, so gas, stove and stove stand all fit inside the jetboil and doesn't rattle. The heat sync on the bottom allows it to heat very fast, I've burnt porridge in mine a couple of times not expecting it to heat up that fast. The shroud around the base for the wind guard etc as you mention doesn't make much difference. I'd say my jetboil is more convenient, slightly lighter weight than what I've used in the past, and I'd highly recommend them. There's not really any trade off. The jetboil ticks all boxes for me personally. (I've been using mess tins in the army, my own smaller stoves etc, and nothing has came close to the convenience of a jetboil) Honest review from someone who thought the jetboil was an overpriced gimmick for years. MSR pocket rocket has now taken that title for me

@@swiftyblueredblue715 Nice one cheers! I have the Firemaple x1 and can fit everything I need in there, it's my go to compact stove (I have other options). Just curious if there is a cheaper & lighter options or upgrade?
@swiftyblueredblue715
@swiftyblueredblue715 Жыл бұрын
@@MINKIN2 No dramas. I'd say if you were looking for cheaper, you're probably good with the X1 to be fair. The jetboil is double the price, but the only advantages may be the weight of the jetboil and the speed. If you're more leaning to price, I'd just keep as you are I'd you're happy mate
