I once talked with a highway patrolman, and he told me that those long heavy doors were a lifesaver on the low slung speedsters. He said he never rolled to a fatality on those old Camaros as long as the driver was seatbelted in. I once saw a Camaro when an 18 wheeler decided to park on one. The door kept the driver alive even though the full weight of the cab was resting on his door.

My first car was a burgundy 74 Camaro with a white vinyl top. I paid $700 for it. You could hear the rust crunching under the vinyl top when you pressed on it. I used to lose full quarts of oil out of the giant rust holes in the trunk. As a 16 yr old kid with no money or expertise, I couldn't fix it correctly. Now, at 59, I've built my dream garage in the back yard. You're Paintucation DVDs (the mullet series) have been invaluable. Keep up the good work!

I can relate to this, when i started working in IT 30+ years ago, the old timers were IBM mainframe guys and would not share their knowledge with anyone. and i hated them for it, because they made my job harder than it had to be. I know most of them were worried that I was younger guy and had a passion for learning and that I would eventually replace them. I was ready to quit at one point, but my boss that told me you can't be promoted, if you can't be replaced, and those old IBM guys would retire in their same positions or become unemployed as main frames were being replaced with PC back in the 90s and in that in IT field everything changes in 5 years or less and if you are unwilling to learn or teach you will become redundant and unemployable in that field. Now I am the old guy and I try to pass on everything i have learned to my team, and still try to keep up with what's new and i have learn a bit from my younglings as well.

I had a '74 Camaro and that was the car that I learned how to change the door bushings on. It was worth the effort as I changed them on my dads '75 ElCamino. The look on his face was priceless, I was at my FIL's house and had left the car in the front yard when we took the door off. Left it laying on a quilt in the yard. Took both hinges to FIL's shop in the back to clean up the hinges and installed the new pins and bushings. My dad showed up in the middle of that work and I was so proud to show him that I could fix his sagging door.

I remember pulling my 71 camaro out of a corn crib in the 90's it had been a drag car in the late 70's through late 80's., no rear end no motor drug it home on a flat bed trailer.. my wife and neighbors thought I was crazy... a month and a half later I was smoking the tires off and stepping on 5.0 mustangs.. lol... thanks for bringing me back to those moments.. can't wait to see the finished project.. cheers

Getting back into car projects in my 60's after a long dealing with life hiatus. Love the format here. Kevin doing Kevin his way. Best of luck to him 'paying it forward' with the full time endeavor. That Picklex used in this vid is good stuff. Got turned onto it in Kev's old forum back in the day. My basketcase 69 restomod project in early 2000s sat in my garage for 4 years as I slowly worked on it without paint most of the time. No surface rust ever formed in that time where treated with that stuff.

So true on the doors. I got two from a salvage yard to add electric windows and locks to my 1976 Grand Prix. Those doors must have been 100 pounds a piece and salvage yard owner made the guys working there carry them by themselves. He said that's a one guy job.Had to rebuild the door hinges they would always wear out. I saw the the header panel come off a couple times but being an editor myself I know that can happen, so I didn't mention it. Thought you were going for the 80's music video remix stutter style. Yeah that's it!

Great tip that gets highly overlooked in the automotive world. That's exactly how I applied my epoxy to my floor pans after repairing them. Under carpet so not to be seen can't be seen. I love all the knowledge you share with us and I've gained as a do it yourselfer.

The technical stuff, I know it's most important, but it makes my eyes heavy and puts my head bobbin' like a student preacher in week long revival in July. I like how you put energy into your talks, (it keeps my attention) like someone that snorted rust in the 80s...LOL But MAN you talks fast. Down here in the south we're more like the Ents from Lord of the Rings stories, "If it's worth saying, it's worth taking a long time to say." I own a 1970 back in the 80s I painted it with a Binks #7.Dupont Centari, 99a pitch black. Back then a gallon of paint like $27 a gallon. Still own the car with the paint job.still looks killer.....

You help so many people with confidence in doing it themselves it’s very admirable. I was doing restoration/ repairs on vehicles for over a decade and the game changer was when I started my own business mobile blasting and honestly I’ll never strip a car down by hand anymore. I charge 1500 for a full blast on a shell guarantee not warp it. But some guy’s can’t afford it or don’t have that option so you doing it by hand gives them a solid boost of inspiration. Love your videos man 👍 I’m being 💯 honest. My wife overheard this video and said “ he’s doing the exact same thing you’re doing to your red 78 camaro.. even down to the chaparral race car!” My response was yeah but he’s going to finish sooner and do a better job 😂.

Glad you're using the PPE. Years ago, I was cutting a board to repurpose it, and there was a square nail embedded in it. It ricocheted off the saw and straight toward my eye. Cost me a good pair of safety glasses, and I got nominated to do the safety talk at work that week...I credit my dad with instilling a safety culture when working with power tools, given that he's nearly cut his hand off twice on the table saw...

Ours was a White LT with a 350/350, Centerlines, skinny and fat Micky Thompson's and Highjackers on the back. Tinted windows with black interior looked mean and the 350 had a Holly, Hedman headers and a Pete Jackson geardrive for that sweet whine! Flip the linelock and pin it until the speedo said 60 and then let it roll!

When looking for a true Z28 all Z28's came with power brakes as standard equipment as well as high energy ignition HEI which will have the HEI wiring harness with the big orange wire. I hope you fix this car but it's a deciding factor when it comes to damage in certain areas. Great video as always!

Always check the steering wheel by spinning it along a fixed point. If you see it bent , then it had a collision. That's a nice car, worthwhile to restore and enjoy it. BBC

I finally got a chance to watch this video. Back in 1992 I bought a sister car to yours... 74 Camaro red with a black vinyl top and black interior. It had been sitting for about a year with no engine or trans. The interior was pristine. I actually bought it to build a NASCAR legal ProStock asphalt car LOL... I took it down to a bare shell and subframe and sand blasted every inch of the car. When I got the paint off, I couldn't believe it. The car still had the original paint and it had never been hit and there wasn't a speck of rust anywhere on that car. People would cry if someone did that to a car that nice now LOL. Back then I only had time to work on it on the weekends, so it took me over a year and a half to build but it was worth it. The car looked incredible, and was a winner since its first race.

I originally found you over on Eastwood's channel when I had a very rusty 84 trans am. You're like the Bruce Springsteen of auto body. Almost everyone can relate to you because of your passion and understanding of the real world. Definitely looking forward to watching all the upcoming videos

I remember watching you on TV and now just finding you on KZbin, I'm blown away!!! Im working on my 69 Chevelle that I bought from the original owner when I was 16. Payed my dad to take me to N. Carolina from Ohio to find a hot rod back in 1984. He wouldn't let me do anything to the engine until I turned 18. She cam with a 350 with a two barrel carb with 300hp stock. Pulled the engine on 18th birthday and went crazy building her up. Hit about 600+ hp's & dad wouldn't go for a ride lol. Just before I got married the oil pump went out and froze her up. We had our son the first yr and long story short. Chevelle had to sit for 32yrs😢 2021 pulled the ol girl out of storage and one yr later she's burnin down the road again. Pushing 500+ hp's on the original engine, still has most of the factory paint (55) Azor Turquoise very rare color for US built Chevelle. After 32 yrs she still needs lots, but all the mechanics is done and yes I did everything myself. Paint & body & interior to go. Love your work and passion brother!!👊

My first car was a 74 Camaro. When I saw this car over on VGG channel it got me in the feels 😂 and of course the different “what if” questions happen but I’m super stoked that you got the car and are going to do an awesome project with it. I caught the header panel but I already mentioned the windshield it looked as though got cracked but was already and wasn't going to give you too much grief! This time I just got to say - I loved Bob Ross too! Another great video Kevin. I'm going to start scuffing my rusty metal clean after etching now. I told ya, I need to see your body work videos!
