@@philscomputerlabYes it does! I was trying to reduce spoilers: Essentially if you consider the "rain" part a tutorial for silent takedowns, the next part is a tutorial for sneaking. The grassy area where you avoid the sentry tower. It also has a convenient save point where your team mate describes the mission objectives. When i said "right at the start" i didn't want to offend anyone by saying 'x' minutes as some players may enjoy the stalk and move between shadows _very_ slowly. Or go in guns blazing... it's 'your' game. Another by product is that i find i can check any overclock/ volt honestly in a real world situation, especially for summer here in Australia. If you're going to BSOD it will happen here. Lastly, there's a piece of software called TimerResolution. It may be interesting for you to fiddle with while testing CPUs. Once again, Crysis 3 benefits from it. Just Alt+Tab while playing to check it out. Thanks Phil. PS - I will be upgrading to a Xeon X5670 soon.

You know, sometimes I feel like KZbinrs are making videos just for me! I've been looking at replacing my i5 NUC server with something a bit more powerful, but still reasonably energy efficient, and I've been looking at the LGA 2011 or even the 1150 Xeon low-power processors, which look pretty much like exactly what I'm looking for on paper. It's definitely encouraging to see the processors are compatible with standard motherboards, and that they're still pretty energy efficient even if the motherboards don't have all the bells and whistles of a brand name, so that's another possibility to consider. The low-power Xeons are pretty hard to come by though, and they've been pretty overpriced when I have found them, so I'm thinking I end up having to go for a Ryzen 5 or 7 "E" model, which are 45W. Although main advantage of the Xeon is the cost of the RAM, since you can pick up large capacity DDR3 server DIMMs for pretty cheap compared to DDR4. That's the other limiting factor with my current server, since it's only got 16GB of RAM, so buying more DDR4 RAM is going to get expensive pretty fast. Anyway, great video as always, good food for thought.

What a deal. Also have a HuananZhi deluxe X79 paired to an E5-4627V2 (costs $96 delivered with 8C/8T that all-core clocks to 3.5Ghz) and RX4708GB. Both do very well in 1080P high settings.

Good choice, that 1650 v2. And with that mobo, you can overclock it 4.4-4.6GHz easily. I know because I have a X99 Asus Rampage Extreme V - 10 Edition and a 1650 v3 at 4.5GHz. It can go higher, but I would need a better cooling. Any good X79 and X99 will run everything, in the highest settings, with a good Xeon and a good graphics card. No need to upgrade for at least a couple of years (my opinion only).

As you say depending on your region used Ryzen 1000 series are VERY nice since its possible to get modern features and move to an even better cpu down the road. However, If you can get the board cheap enough, have some ddr3 already or even family /friend /salvage PCs that you can get super cheap or even free?-- x79 is fun as hell still and quite capable. I don't knwo why, but fixing that could make the difference between not enough and just enough performance, since it is an increase of more than 10% of the speed. With a motherboard name like PlexHD, it makes me wonder how this setup would perform as an inexpensive FreeNAS server running Plex Media Server (as long as ECC actually works on the board, ZFS should be fine), adding some inexpensive NAS drives, a SATA/SAS HBA, and a case with plenty of hard drive bays.

How about checking out some Opteron setups? On ebay on the US side, you can find 1 and 2 socket boards with CPUs for about $100 USD. Might be fun to play with. Even though used boards from ASUS, MSI, etc. might be expensive they still have downloads for even their oldest boards. I can still download the manual and latest BIOS for my ASUS P2B-F.

I have done some research into it in the past, they use far to much power for the performance they provide, and don't perform well in tasks that aren't heavily multithreaded. The motherboards are weirdly configured and require specialised power supplies. Waste of money.

I'd have liked to see the results compared to r5 1600 results, also would be cool too if you test 1080p high settings since most of us likely play on that resolution, I know you lower the res to stress the cpu but would like to see the 1080p results too, thanks for all your work brother.

Dear Phil, I just got an older Xeon - the e5450 (one of your favorites, I believe). It is another CPU rated for 80W TDP just like the one you've shown. Can you tell me what would be the cheapest cooler for it? I've seen you using the Gammaxx Archer (it is quite affordable and has a large fan that blows air onto the VRMs) - can it keep an 80W Xeon stable for prolonged gaming sessions at stock speeds (it is for a friend's kid)? Or any other budget alternatives?
@philscomputerlab
@philscomputerlab 5 жыл бұрын
A stock Intel cooler, especially if it has a copper core, will work just fine! The Gamma Archer should also work. 80W TDP should be easy for most basic coolers to be honest.

@@philscomputerlab Danke sehr, you're so awesome! Another idea for your channel - now that you have CPU thermal pads (therefore way easier to swap coolers), it would be great to review CPUs with low-end & high-end coolers and present the results. It will bring huge value to your viewers in the not so prosperous parts of the world, where getting an old Xeon would be way cheaper than a capable cooler.
@philscomputerlab
@philscomputerlab 5 жыл бұрын
@@НиколаГеоргиев-ш2б That's easy though, just get a tower cooler with heat pipes and 120mm fan, they all work really well. Snowman is a popular model. Top down coolers are more for 80w tdp CPUs.
@НиколаГеоргиев-ш2б
@НиколаГеоргиев-ш2б 5 жыл бұрын
@@philscomputerlabYes, I know about the Snowman. It was even discounted by a few bucks last time I checked. However, it is still three times more expensive (with costly delivery as well) than the Gamma Archer and the like (available locally). And friends keep arguing with me that with the GArcher the CPU (albeit 80W) will reach 85 degrees under load. That's why I suggested benching with both low-end and higher-end coolers. Your western viewers may not find that useful, as they would not put a cheapoo cooler in their rigs, but think about a place where every $ counts. Btw, just checked Deepcool offers an upgraded Gamma Archer with copper core for the Russian market - sadly we do not have them in the EU.

The truth being that many gamers are like myself and have no issue playing at 720 or 900p. I don't mind it at all. I'd rather have better effects than one step up in resolution. In the US at least, you can get a Dell Precision T3600 or T3610 (single socket 2011 machines) for about $150 US. That would probably include a CPU you don't really want and not enough RAM and a garbage GPU. I suspect that under many circumstances, starting with one of these Dells would be more cost effect than purchasing a new socket 2011 motherboard plus case plus PSU plus CPU cooler. Additionally, such a machine will often include a license for Windows 10 Pro, which one its own is more expensive than the base machine itself would be. I plan to pair the one I recently purchased with a E5-1650, which has higher clock rate than the 2630v2 you tested. Used Dell Precisions may not be a reasonable price in some markets,
