This one of my favorite songs (considered "pop") when I was 12 or 13. It was #1 on the Billboard charts for several weeks, and in the top 10 of 1977 hits. It wasn't until many, many years later when I heard it again as an adult, that I found out what the song was really about: A young (teen) boy's wet dreams, or as Alan O'Day described it, a “nocturnal novelette”!!! Listen to it with that in mind; it makes sense. Then toward the end of the song his fantasy gets real, as he actually begins a relationship. To think this naive girl was singing along with it at the top of lungs back then, LOL!

This was during the disco years. O'Day never charted again to my knowledge. A lot of contemporary country is a lot of recycling of production values and composition from this era, although I personally don't hear a lot of similarities in this singular example; but that's just me. I was a kid from my Tennessee when this song came out. I loved it. I thought it said …..Undercover Angel, Midnight Tennessee….. LOL I thought that was the lyrics up to when I was in the Army in 1987…lol The guys got a nice laugh out of it… I just thought I knew the song…lol

I think 70's were just as bad as the 80's with one hit wonders. Not trying to be negative, but when you dislike a song there's a reason. It's catchy, fun and sappy lyrics that the general audience wants. I would consider this as Buble gum music. It has a teeny bopper kinda feel imo.
