Brad was almost right when he mentioned that it might have been about depression. I was hoping that the two of you would work it out, and sure enough, less than a second later Lex mentioned addiction. This song is, indeed, about addiction. The lead singer wrote it while he was in rehab for an addiction to pain killers. It's all about the rage and anger the addiction grew in him, as well as the fear that he would never be able to overcome it.

Emo kind of had it's meaning taken over in the late 90s early Y2ks, with popularity of stores like Hot Topic. If you want to hear what actual "EMO" sounds like, listen to something like Mineral - 'Gloria'. The whole Power of Failing album is pretty much in your face, angst ridden emo. The term emo was used originally as derogetoriy. Ian Mackaye (DC, Dischord Records) went from a band that had fairly aggressive music and concerts, to a band like Embrace. Which was far from Minor Threats incredibly influential sound.

This song, to me, is all about the anger and how it can make you into someone else. For me, especially when I was younger, I could be the nicest guy you've ever met but when I was pushed too far and got mad, I was a completely different person. I wasn't like violent or anything like that, but when I was "chill" I was an observer who took note of so many little things and when I got mad I knew exactly what to say, what dark secret or hidden insecurity to target, to verbally tear someone to pieces. And I was cold about it. Looking back I wonder if it would have been better if I had been prone to taking a swing at someone instead. My scrawny self wouldn't have been able to do nearly as much damage physically as my words did emotionally and mentally.

So actually, his singing style is or was one of the most unique vocal fries that this and previous generations has seen in a while, Adams pitch with the absolute fried vocals that he can produce is still something 10 years on going I’ve been trying to replicate, While it’s easy to make the sound, being able to control it/increase pitch simultaneously while also screaming is just insanely commendable, One of if not the most recognizable voices in post grunge/metal scene back in the mid 2000s, It’s not nasal, it’s very diaphragm reliant and pure genetic due to the naturalness of it!

Emo kinda but it was mostly considered hard rock. The song itself brings me back to my teen years. RAISE YOUR VOICE movie in 2004 is where is first heard them. The singer Adam Gontier had serious alcohol issues and minor prescription drug issues so a lot of songs on this album (One - X) represented that. In my own personal opinion the most important song on the album is the first song titled "It's All Over".

I want to request 30 Seconds to Mars "The Kill". Please react to the actual music video though. There's a cool THE SHINING theme to it.

I haven't thought about it much until now, but our lack of discipline make us more susceptible to high dopamine producing activities, which is highly addictive. Before we know it, we end up caught up in a rut of impulse driven decisions that require no more intellect than what our reptilian survival brain needs. We keep going through not checking our impulsive desires, spending time constantly doing the habits that keep our dopamine levels low due to constant stimulation. In this state, it's safe to say a person is nothing more than an animal, just surviving enough to satisfy the addictions. Dopamine can be abused via simply by being constantly and overly entertained just as much as it can be abused by doing drugs. Addiction is a horrendous existence I deal with myself. Constantly looking for ways out, but always falling right back in. "Comfort is a mystery, crawling out of my own skin. Just give me what I came for, and I'm out the door again" - The Package by A Perfect Circle
