Yep. My son recently moved to Luton for a short while. He'd heard of the reputation, and we had to remind him that Luton is home for a lot of people, most of whom will be decent folks. I think if Luton has problems, it's lack of initiative from the local authority. Otherwise it's not far from London, has decent transport links, a shopping centre. It just feels like the town could do with a bit of a tidy up.

Used to live in Luton back in 2017 for one year and a half (I'm Italian) and I honestly didn't feel like it was the worst place in the world. Not gonna lie: I remember trying to go to the mall because my gym was there and get stopped by the police telling me that the mall was close due to someone stabbing a customer inside, so sometimes life was a bit scary there, but my landlord was amazing (he was from Luton), my flatmates were funny and smart (they were from Luton too) and my coworkers were great people. Born in London but spent half my working life as an immigrant (ex-Pat makes me laugh) In the USA. I always felt, and still do, when in Rome do what the Romans do, a kind of visitor if you like, because I never gave up my English passport. Now I'm not talking about foods and stuff that have been introduced, which are great in any community. But when new traditions overtake the Indigenous people's way of life, there will be problems. And that's in any Town/Village/City. If you note, the only really unhappy people were people who were born there. They feel overlooked, and you can't blame them. Aside from that, great video and you handle yourself politely and professionally.

@@joelgoldsmith4747 Yeah, same with Aborigines, Māoris even the Irish etc. But that was a different time. Being an immigrant, I've had nastiness aimed at me too, especially from pretend Irish who need a cause to vent. But this is different, and my post wasn't meant to be a racist statement. But this and past governments haven't put their voters first. It causes resentment, and hate. As the past riots have shown. But it's not the immigrant's fault. It's the fault of the governments, who obviously don't take any notice of any census. Any born and bred-Brit will resent being pushed out. And I know Kendall is liberal on this. But facts are facts. My neighbors are incredibly kind, helpful, and welcoming-something I hadn’t experienced before. What makes Luton special is how diverse it is; people from Asian, African, and European backgrounds live harmoniously alongside the British community. The city offers a rich blend of cultures, and I’ve never encountered racism or discrimination here. It’s a beautiful and inclusive place to call home in England.

The "ILiveHere" website literally states that it's "articles are for entertainment purposes only and are satire"! So why on earth does it receive so much media coverage? It's not a site that should be taken seriously. These online polls are really not that accurate or fair. Was it randomised and sampled like a proper YouGov poll would be? No. Are there any controls on stopping repeat and duplicate voting? No, because its all anonymous. The same "poll" voted Luton or Peterborough down are the same that voted Kensington and Chelsea because it's "too expensive" for them. So now what? Are we to assume that Kensington and Chelsea are undesirable? The single best metric to judge willingness to live in Luton would be house prices. Prices are objective as a means of comparison. Over the past 10 years, Luton has seen phenomenal house price growth which only means one thing - there is demand to live here. In fact, it was one of the highest performers. It doesn't matter what the online polls say. Money speaks greater volumes.

In the town centre yes you can find few homeless people but you can find that in any town centre in the world. Crime yes you can hear it happening sometimes but because Luton is a small town it makes headlines very fast even if it happens once every few weeks and people who never lived in luton and have no clue what's going on here are super quick to denigrate this beautiful place based on that crime alone, I lived in Luton for 8 years felt safer than anywhere in London. Every negative vlog about Luton is done by someone who never lived in Luton and purposefully goes to film the bad areas and interview the less fortunate and the homeless so they can get clicks but the reality is not that, I can go in Chelsea tomorrow morning and make a vlog that Chelsea is the worst borough in London , I promise you I can find homeless people in Chelsea and people who shoplift if I want to make Chelsea look bad on a vlog . I was born in Luton and spent the first 20 years of my life there. For me its biggest strength now is in its transport connections and proximity to London. As a young child in the early 70s I lived in one of the nicer areas (Round Green/Stopsley) and have some nostalgic memories from that time, walking "down the town" via High Town Road or Hitchin Road, buying my favourite chocolate eclairs (with fake cream!) from Nicholls the baker shop in High Town Road or Manchester Street, drinking blackcurrant pop at the Chelsea cafe upstairs in the Arndale and going to school in Stopsley. Then we had to move to one of the estates and it all went downhill from here. I actually visited that estate this week for the first time in 30 years, to make my peace with it; it was still as dreary and soulless as it always was, but I saw what I needed to see, left after an hour and will never go back. Tellingly, my Dad later moved back to the Round Green/Stopsley area and he was happy there, he lived there for the rest of his life.

Lived in Luton for 3 years from 2019-2022, now live in Hitchin just down the road. It's not a great place to live, there's nothing to do & isn't easy on the eye especially in the town centre. That said there are some nicer parts such as Wardown Park, Warden Hills & the general Stopsley area. Most people there are nice to talk to & I still do Parkrun there every Saturday
@skyepalmer5719Ай бұрын

Hitchin is paradise compared to Luton and the property prices are sky high as it is a desirable place to live. Hitchin is in Hertfordshire not Bedfordshire and is called the mini St.Albans these days (although cheaper to buy than St.Albans).

I have spent some time in Luton and frankly these opinions about the worst place to live are exaggerated and for some reason blown out of proportion by the media and passed on by youtubers, I have seen far worse places in the UK. Town Centre is definitely not 'Harpenden' and other posh places but no exaggeration. The only thing that bothered me was the lack of nightclubs where you could go out with friends. There's also a part of Luton you didn't show where the Muslim/Pakistani community live and have their businesses. It looks specific, but that doesn't mean it's dangerous or overly dirty. If you're looking for charming streets with old architecture, Victorian houses creating a unique atmosphere, there are plenty of these too.

I feel bad about Luton born English Lads as they lost control, it's all Muslim ruled Town. With big clans, gangs and infrastructure it doesn't feel like England anymore. It is changing for better indeed, but property prices and amount of activities that Town offers is crap and I highly advise to avoid unless you have no other choice like I had. Luton became an overspill town for London post war and had a lot of council estates built, but post thatcher I think the support for these communities dropped and so the maintenance on those estates dropped too. Then 2000's vauxhall closed and that lost a ton of jobs. People leave and go elsewhere for more opportunities, having ripple effects on local economy. So the place declined. When you get people blaming it on migrants it's such a shame.. The migrants are who have brung some life to an otherwise declining town - they come as its close to London and has a lower cost of living. People should be mad at the politician's that allowed a once thriving town to not get investment it needed in to improve it and was left behind.
@TfswiptАй бұрын
I’d rather a ghost town than these well behaved ‘migrants’ who contribute nothing and feed off the taxpayer whilst driving crime rates through the roof, which in turn becomes a drain on public services (vast majority) Wake up and stop trying to be a social justice warrior 🤦♂️
@HawthornSpindleАй бұрын
Yes. Thank you.
@NigelHyphenJonesАй бұрын
Not really an overspill for London. Nearby Hemel and Stevenage were more overspill towns. People went to Luton for work as it was an industrial hub when Britain actually made things. It was the Detroit of the UK with regards to the motor industry.
@b.2221Ай бұрын
The thing is through all the hatred against migrants that guy at the start was a real character. Sadly it’s the way the country is slowly turning into for all of us as for Mr Robinson or whatever his real name is? then no thank you. Regardless of the colour of your skin the people are what counts and the ones that you spoke to were exactly evidence of that.

And just think, the centre is the bit where the Labour Council mostly spends all the money. The bit it recently tidied up when the BBC Big Weekend was hosted in Luton, and it had a lot of tourists, for example. Bury Park is like another world. But then Stopsley, Marsh Farm, Park Town or Farley Hill etc areas are all quite different. It's a big place and I've seen it all here. There's now much more homelessness, drugs on the streets, people openly taking drugs and drinking all day without a care. Lots of anti social behaviour, people on e-scooters/bicycles will sometimes just whizz straight through that mall. And that was before the plague of food delivery guys turned up everywhere. I've seen young staff in stores having to deal with shoplifting all day long, coming in and out helping themselves to things. Fireworks constantly going off at the stroke of midnight as people try sleep seems to be a thing, along with cars and bikes racing around the deserted streets at 2 in the morning. There's constant graffiti that the council pays to clean up over and over, pointlessly. And of course the spate of stabbings, mugging and occasional firearms offences that seems to be the norm in the underpasses and secluded areas. The place gets worse year on year, it sucks balls. But yeah, the town centre ain't the most terrible part of it.

Anyone in the comments who resides in Luton and thinks Luton isnt a bad place is part of the problem. The town is horrendous! Its NOT a nice place to live, the people are down-trodden, the businesses are tax-dodging, drug-money-cleaning empires. Theres a county lines problem, the community is diverse but its not integrated. Crime is wild, the airport is rated terribly, the University is rated right at the bottom of the list.... And Im just as stupid because I live here!!!!
