As someone who just moved into a smaller space, where it is difficult to work with whitespirits safely (got a cat that I don't want to expose to the fumes) this is gold. I had really gotten into the grimdark style of painting and I've been looking at ways to get a similar feel with acrylics. Pre-ordered both sets, felt like it was worth it for the signed prints alone to be honest.

As a card carrying JB fan (I can see copies of both versions of Voodoo Forest & Scions of Voodoo from where I'm sitting right now + I'd push my granny down the stairs for an affordable Ratspike reprint) I'm fascinated by these sets. BIg Blanche fan and pretty obssesed with the grimdark style. This looks like a decent set to get someone started in terms of the palette, but I'll be honest; I can't see me picking up this one. There isn't anything here that I haven't already got or I can't mix up myself. Still, its a good idea and it should be a popular one for Army Painter. If they would have boxed this one up wth an exclusive sculpt it would sell like crazy.

To me this set is a godsent. :D I have a little bit of fear when it comes to enamels. My plan is painting my two actual games grimdark, wich means painting around 300 models. Daily handling enamels in my small flat would worry me, since I come from a family where two people who handled similar toxins both died horribly from cancer. One was an actual oil painter. I know I am probably overcautious, but seeing them wither aways just scarred me for life, so I will try to get results with just acrylics.

Your concerns are totally valid. And im sorry for your losses. Just some small basic safty tips when it comes to enamels. Wear a mask, and just make sure your room has good air circulation yourl be fine. ☺️

The thing for me with enamels and oils is that you have to use mineral spririt instead of water. I share my painting space with my wife make so I have to be mindful of what I use when painting. Also having a small child at home has made me want to avoid toxic things as much as possible. For that reason I'm tempted by these paints.

I guessing the rust wash aside from being ultra mat just has very few stabilizers in the mix(just enough to keep the pigment suspend while wet)... and maybe intentionally poor quality control on pigment sizes.

But pro acryls are a fantastic range. Their tones lean a little bit more to the highly saturated comic book style, but you can still achieve grim dark aesthetics. AND opposed to AP you can see what the colours will end up looking from the outside of the bottles. I really hate the colours shown on the labels with AP especially for the inks

Looks good but I don't know if I want to pay 42 Euros for just 10 paints or 84 Euros for the whole range.... Seems a bit overpriced even more so when you look at their other warpaint fanatics sets which are sold at about 34 Euros.... I'm pretty sure with a bit of research I could find close equivalents from other reputable brands for cheaper that that too. Tho I admit I am really tempted by these sets.....

No. As stated in video, built layers up then washed. Its not really tutorial video this. Just more of a review. I basically applied the greens and lighter tones. Then a wash. Hope that helps ☺️

If it’s dried glossy, that’s because it needs a good shake. The retarders in washes can settle on top if not shaken well enough and when applied they dry a bit glossier. Give them a shake and try again. 😊

Here’s my take if your really good at blending, mixing and advanced miniature painting techniques. Then this set is for you, for a casual painter who does a tabletop paint job to just get the model done and play. Or you just started your tabletop hobby experience and just started painting this set is not a good set for beginners.

To be fair, it is just zorn style palette that John Blanche is known for and nothing more then that. I have not seen any official premonitions calling this a grimdark set, mostly just KZbinrs. Yes he is called the grandfather of grimdark, but he is more then that. It is just army painter fantastic paint and speed paint 2.0. No changes to the recipe. Did you like fantastic paint? If you did then these are an addition. If you did not like fantastic paint then you will hate this set. Maybe the set might win some over that have not looked into army painter.

I dont mean to sh*t on what looks like a nice set of paints frrom a nice company. I dont use this line a ls a whole but id definitely find singles that are useful. Im a scale75 man myself. Point is however, John did not need a specific set of paints to paint in HIS style. He used what he had to create what he needed. This is what we should be teaching, this is what we should be rewarding. This hype train, must consume new shiny thing has got to stop (in many facets of life). It has to start with us. If we dont suppprt it, they cant profit from it. What would be much better content (ethically and spiritually) is showing people that they (likely) already have everything they need to paint in this style. That's the real education. That adds real value to your channel. Maybe you can be the light .... our north star. Lets teach people how to paint not lean on gimmicks or specialized sets as the only way.
