Hi, I've been looking around how to select and actually, once the selection tool is chosen, just press ALT and it will change the mouse cursor to the selection pictogram. Very convenient to remove artefacts and undesired scanned elements that might sometimes appear in the background. Besides its a pretty good and handy product. For the cost, it is not as sharp as professional but it does the job (until we get to the limitations given by glossy or dark surfaces).

You do a good job because this is pretty much my workflow, which is to say, I learn as I go and click all of the buttons.

Not just a case, i love a case, you’ve got me all excited for one to. Btw it seems to me if you had a curved linear rail with motorized track it could be setup to slow crawl an arc over the part without holding it i did that with my diy scanner. Also using a window pane rotisserie frame bracket on the turntable allows scanning of all sides for more complex parts like a ball. You’ve got the skills and tools to modify it if you want.

I bought and intensively tested the Mole and call it a failed investment 1. Lack of scan resolution 2. Constant tracking issues 3. Cannot scan foam hair or black materials 4. Struggles with sharp edges With basic 108MP photogrammetry you get more details with significantly less money

Really good overview thanks. The software looks very similar to that used with Einscan- in there you need to hold shift first then click and drag to select the point cloud, so that might be the same here and why it wouldn't let you interact with the point cloud. Quality wise it looks very similar to the Einscan HX. If it can match that it would be incredible, especially at this price point. I've ordered mine today to find out!

@@chrisdixonstudios Unfortunately I don't have access to the Einscan HX now but I can comfortably say the mole scanner is on par if not better than it- which is absolutely astounding when you compare the price points of each. I can't do a like for like accuracy comparison and the einscan will obviously beat it with the laser scanning but JM Studio is way better than einscans software offering with improved tracking and overall less engrish / a better user experience. Long story short- I've been really impressed.

I've got one. My complaint is that I can only scan small parts with it. Also the software is not all that great. It cuts part of the image off when using the rotating table and the manufacturer doesn't seem to be interested in fixing the problem.

@@lukemurace maybe the batch they sent out after was bad. There’s tons of people having issues. Even caked in foot powder it struggles to pick up basic objects. Their customer support is trash and they tried using BS excuses why they couldn’t respond during the return period. Got my money back and I’m just going with a company that believes in quality control. I don’t doubt some of them work good but their quality is nowhere near advertised

Lokking at the end result I’d stick with photogrammetry; much cheaper and more accurate. Photogrammetry is a more involved process though. Taking hundreds of photos and then running that through Reality Capture is not for everyone.

That's the thing though, that additional involvement, as you mention, is a real barrier to a lot of people.

this thing looks like a creality CR-scan lizard in a different shell. from the "propriety" connector with the split usb / power cable to the silly turn table which is exactly the same. even the software it come with looks like the lizards one. the lizard did not impress me, and this scanners results are not any better, the way to small scanning area is mostly to blame for the tracking loss.
