The fact that this song is called "Is this happiness?" and then later she released "happiness is a butterfly" reminds we about that one meme with the guy saying "is this ..." to the butterfly

Probably because it's not on Spotify and unless you're aware that there's an extended version of Ultraviolence out there, you wouldn't know of it's existence. Which is just fucking tragic. Seriously, there are so many killer b-sides and unreleased LDR songs out there...

I've always interpreted this song in two ways, one is that she's asking if this, what she's feeling, is what people call happiness, something she's never experienced before. My other interpretation is that she's asking whether this, this happiness that everyone's been raving about, whether this is all there is to it. Along the lines of dismay, of "is that it?"

Whenever I hurt myself I think of her line " you like to rage, don't do that"... 😖
@JLR221 Жыл бұрын
The lyrics suggest her questioning the glitz and glamor of the Hollywood illusion. Is this happiness? The easy access to drugs.. the sadness and loneliness behind the fame. I love this song so much and I have loved it for a very long time. It is haunting yet stunning. But cannot help to think it is the quite the opposite of happiness. I freaking love ya LDR. Your poetry is next level and conveyed so beautifully as always.

this song is too good for it to get such low recognition💞💞 the bird chirps, the high volume backing vocals, the instrumental, how the production progressively gets more and more intense, and most importantly... THE GOD DAMN LYRICS/POETRY!!! the way she rhymes “hollywood hills” with “violet pills” is pure genius😑☝️

omg I could see this in honeymoon. but it also fits with uv imo
@j.e.s.v.s3 жыл бұрын
Everyone has its aura, this belongs in UV. The simplistic lyrics, cynical treatment of the narrative, the minimalistic landscape sounds with a devastating topic. This is a really violent topic covered within innocent romanticism. Honeymoon is more mature, more intellectual and less emotional than uv. This feels like one of the last breaths of the freedom of a teenager, selfish, and honeymoon is more social, more historical, introspective yet meditated. I prefer uv even though hm looks more ambitious, because she achieved the balance in UV to make it feel atemporal. Lfl, nfr, etc. never reached that middle-point and will fall in time.
