I am curious about DC20. I've been watching the Dungeon Coach for a while and I like his rules for adding so teeth to 5e. I'm also curious about Tales of the Valiant. Really, my goal is to get into a system that D$D 5e players will feel more conformable switching to.

As an ancient neckbeard, I enjoyed D&D going to D20 in 3rd ed like Star Wars had been for quite a while. Made things much simpler for new folks coming to the table. I sure miss THAC0, tho, lol.
@lanthorn99105 ай бұрын
I really liked this video!!! I like DC20, too. I also LOVed your not tearing into D&D (WoTC). I believe there is room at the table for all TTRPGs, including D&D. #newsubscriber I believe as you dig into DC20 more, your hair will separate from your skull. ~ Not only 4 different actions, but multiple APs used to MAGNIFY a single action. ~ Also actions can be used before or after your turn in the round. Think Reaction or Opportunity Attack. ~ you can use an action to combine your spell with another players spell and "dual cast" craziness. So much immersion and team play. Really interesting.

Condolences on your broken rib. Been there. You learn pain tolerance when every breath hurts. One friend of mine once said, "Pain Tolerance is a funny phrase. When you're in pain you're going to tolerate it whether you want to or not." On the game, I like the 4 attributes. I think Cypher system should have those four. Doesn't make sense to lump Intellect and Charisma under Intellect to me. Action Points reminds me of the SPECIAL system from Fallout. I wonder if they did like ToV and standardized everyone's subclass leveling? It tells me that the fans are tired of the big company messing up the system trying to make it "better" and pulled a Thanos: "Fine. I'll do it myself."

How easy would it be to convert material from D&D 5e or Pathfinder to DC20?
@MrTarrasque5 ай бұрын
That's a good question and one I'm asking myself aswell. At first glance I don't think there will be to much a difference and an experienced GM should be able to do it. That said, don't quote me on it, I might be doing a video on that later.
@RedsByrd5 ай бұрын
There’s a free 5e conversion guide included with it think all of the tiers. Pf2e doesn’t have a dedicated conversion quide, but the action economy is very similiar so a lot of things can be ported over without too much hassle. There is a lot of number fixing you’d have to do for pathfinder but once you hit the sweet spot i imagine it’d be pretty simple.

I guess my #1 question is: "What does this do that Cypher, Savage Worlds, and my other dozen systems don't do?" Bevause my issue is not trying to find a replacement for the DnD system - as Cypher and Savage Worlds do such well enough - but rather offers a new idea I might be willing to put money down on. I already have Modern AGE if I really want a sort of DnD feel - and there is Fantasy AGE and Blue Rose for the direct fantasy feel already.
@MrTarrasque5 ай бұрын
That's a good question that I can't answer yet. I think most RPGs that see the light of day now are a combination of mostly already used ideas and systems, and it's the combination of ingredients that gives a dish that you might like or don't like. I feel it at the moment it doensn't try to do anything really new but it takes a lot of stuff that I like and combines it.
@Skeloric5 ай бұрын
@@MrTarrasque Another good question is how easily condensed and transparent the rules will be. DnD is strewn across three books and then one must get more books because there is no clear idea to what methodology would let me build off of the rules for myself. As someone who found DnD to be very opaque to where DIY was a very bad idea for most groups to even try to attempt, I learned a valuable lesson about preferring a system where I can see how it all fits together.

I really love the simplification to the D&D rules, for the way I play I don't really need ability scores or saving throws. I also love the action point system, it's the best part of Pathfinder 2e, being able to do your attack and also buffs or commanding a companion or those things that on D&D I thought were very cool thematically but weak on the action economy. Mana Points / Stamina Points, that's cool, spell slots is a cumbersome system. The fact that it's generic D&D / Pathfinder fantasy is a minus for me, I've played fantasy a lot and I wish it had some thematic twist to it, all the classes look like 5e / Pathfinder classes. The alpha playtest document on the kickstarter is 160 pages (!!!) so I would love your detailed opinion if you read it.

First off, sorry to hear about your broken rib, they are brutal. Take care of yourself during the healing. I haven't looked into the rules myself but my first thought is cutting down to 4 stats might be cutting down too far. I like the ones listed but imo there needs to be something representing a will score because it's different to int. Maybe they've addressed that so maybe it's a moot point. Interesting to see where it goes at least

No, “This” is in fact NOT it. DC20 is an extremely mechanically overloaded system, that will most probably remain a very niche project, kind of like shadowrun, due to the insane barriers of entry and insufferable bookkeeping requirements. If you enjoy things like relationship points, and crunching numbers - go for it, but prepare for combat that will last even longer than in 5e.

Yeah very accurate. As someone who’s played pf2e and 5e, dc20 feels like pathfinder 2e in terms of flexible action economy, and customization, but closer to 5e in the sense of being alot more free with allowing you to use your abilities how you want, without tons of restrictions. The balance is not as tight as pf2e but it’s still decent, and the trade offs are worth it imo
@satiricalbard15 ай бұрын
@@RedsByrd so kinda like the best things from pf2e but less of the ‘fiddly’ bits and micromanagement that some/many find just gets in the way of a fast fun game?

🤔 4 attributes isn't enough to represent a character. Wisdom is a very good attribut and might is bullshit. You can be strong without a good constitution and you can run a marathon without great strength… 🤷♂️
@MrTarrasque5 ай бұрын
I don’t agree. The Sypher system is a good example of only having three and your skills can be positive and/or negative scores, so they put the difference there. You can have for example a lot of might with an inability in swimming. Making it so that you are good in general might tasks but not in the ones you suck at.
@rosi45103 ай бұрын
@@MrTarrasqueSorry but I still don't agree (Warhammer works with 10 and it’s great). And swimming has nothing to do with might. It‘s a skill not based on strength (catchword: buoyancy). 😉
