The original is pretty slammin' and you can find it most big and small grocers nowadays. Love seeing the behind the scenes come up to his current success and the fact that the recipe is from his grandmother!

I found it to be too bitter and too sweet. I thought it needed more green onions. I liked it that it does not contain any preservatives, no emulsifiers, no thickeners, no fillers!! It has only sesame oil, not canola or sunflower: it does not taste greasy nor does it feel greasy. Overall if when I want sauce this is the one I'd buy. Bravo, Bachan!

bachan is not a japanese american term lol .. obachan is the word for grandma, bachan is just shortening the word.
@MistSoalar
@MistSoalar 7 күн бұрын
To add this, the word for grandma should pronounce with elongated a like oba'a-chan. With shorter a, "oba-chan" means auntie.

@MistSoalar yes you are right but for some of us nikkeijin we were brought up with obachan for grandma and obasan for auntie.

We got a big bottle of this at Costco so that seems a bit odd compared to their story of a struggling small business owner. I added a bunch of it to a meatloaf and it was probably the best meatloaf I've ever made. I would totally vouch for that use of it.

@@jpablo700 I followed Adam Ragusea's video for smoked meatloaf and it came out great. The recipe calls for "a couple glugs" of barbecue sauce. You can always add more when you serve it if needs it. I did cook it in the oven since smoking it sounds like a pain.

Now they have all the flavors and I'm glad to see it getting recognition. Won't be a secret anymore 😂 (Yuzu is my favorite overall. The OG is my favorite for marinade along with the hot and spicy. Sweet Honey for general dipping/glaze. I use OG instead of soy for fried rice 🔥)

Read the ingredient list for this product. Healthy and clean. that costs more, plain and simple. If people pay for it, where's the harm? And it sounds like people are doing just that. Vote with your wallet. Or buy it on sale. Or don't buy it at all. That's the beauty of a capitalist, free-market economy. You can always buy Baby Ray's or a store brand, but read the ingredient label first and ask yourself if you want to put that in your body. Even better? Make your own.

I tried out the Kinders Japanese BBQ and it's definitely a lot different than the Bachans in both consistency and flavor. More of a soy umami base than any of their flavors and is more suited to veggies. Akin to a deeper bodied hoisin sauce or stir fry sauce. Some people call the Bachans bitter, then the Kinders J-BBQ is definitely more so. Though I still don't feel that's the best term to describe it. Just very deep savoury flavours.

They’re exquisite their “imprevio’sos” where I live I don’t wanna pay eight dollars for a bottle of sauce and that’s it like the Safeway. It’s like seven or eight dollars per how many ounces? It’s good don’t get me wrong folks, it’s not the main course lol it’s something you’re gonna add to blah blah blah.
