Great demo. Your demos are like a mini-skirt - long enough to cover the important parts but still short enough to be interesting. Great work.

@@BigHairyGuitarsThanks so much for the demo. I ordered the amp based on your demo, as well as the funny German guy. Those tones are ridiculously good. I love that Shabat guitar too. Im usually not a fan of EL 84 tube amps because of the lack of bass missing from the power section but this amp sounds so good im not even noticing that bit. This might be the best 20 watt head you've had on the channel so far. Bravo engl!! Great video Michael! You did an amazing job as always!!! 👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Problem with El84 is not the lack of bass, but lack of tightness
@FastRedPonyCar5 ай бұрын
@@taxo That's not the tube problem but a combination of preamp design, transformers, etc. The EL84 MK V's are super tight and percussive, the Orange OR15 and OR30 are both huge and punchy and don't get loose until the gain is pushed really hard. The EL84 baby Friedmans are clean and tight as well.
@samp34134 ай бұрын
Tubes by themselves don’t have fixed tonal characteristics. Their performance depends heavily on the circuit they’re used in. For example, the tone-shaping components like capacitors, resistors, and transformers dictate how the tubes operate. EL34s and 6L6s are often based on generalisations tied to specific amplifier designs, such as British (Marshall) for EL34s and American (Fender) for 6L6s. The sound is not inherent to the tubes themselves but to how they are implemented in the circuit.

Man, when I just started playing: literally the first music-dvd I bought was that Royal Albert Hall concert. It's - to this day - just jaw-droppingly amazing in all kinds of ways. And particularly the song you're featuring: 'Sometimes I feel Like Screaming'. Man, it's everything that Steve does so well: it's a melody that sounds simple, but is played elaborately and in a very nuanced way (working up to the touch-harmonics), the solo has those recognizeable triplet-runs, but you can sing everything right along. For someone who is (partially) famous for the song 'Tumeni Notes', he's one of the rare guitar-masters where it never sounds overdone, too much or just showing off. Always has purpose! I hope he's doing well now, which is why it's so good to see this appearing in the tube-timeline. It's because of Steve's original ENGL-amp, that I tried that one, the Ritchie Blackmore-signature, and then the smaller Thunder-50, which has been my workhorse-amp every since. Their sounds are just amazing. Sounds like me gushing (and it is) but they're just really versatile and sweet. Had one question btw: the original Morse-amp is very focused on controlling the high-and low mids, which is something I did not see reflected in this one. Is there a particular reason for that? Because it's kind of the main-feature (together with the dual controls) that sets the original 'big one' apart from the other ENGL range? Cool vid!

My lame Steve Morse-ish story. 1990. Just finished training. We got sent to the PX to go buy whatever stuff we needed before shipping overseas. I got a cassette Walkman and found High Tension Wires and Rush Fly By Night. I listened to the heck out of those on my journey. I had 36 hours of airports, airport lounges and airplanes until I got where I was supposed to be. Picked up extra batteries in LA before taking the flight across the Pacific. Back when you could smoke on planes and flying was still classy. 😂

Steve Morse was the top guest artist at Andy Wood's Woodshed Guitar Experience this year and he played his little amp through a 4X12 and it sounded amazing. I think that half the crowd was wondering where the. big head was because there was no way he was getting that sound with that little thing. I will add that Steve is not only a really nice guy but he's funny as can be.

A tube amp with modern features! This is great. Everything you'd need all in one. I moved to digital a while ago because of a need for low volumes and ease of recording. But this solves my volume, recording issues. And for just a basic sound and a little delay for solos (and noise gate for higher gain), I wouldn't need anything else.
@FastRedPonyCar5 ай бұрын
Great demo man. I've got this one on my short list to try out. What I was glad to see reading through the owners manual is that you can store presets to have a different IR loaded for clean and lead channels as well as totally bypass the IR loader to use your own IR loader (or in my case, I'd want to use the OX Stomp). I Was disappointed that the Badlander I reviewed didn't offer that and I had to lug a load box with me to the stage. I tried just removing the IR from one of the slots in the amp and it muted the sound.

Great Review video! You make this amp sound good! I got to hear Steve play through this gem of an amp a month ago at Sweetwater. We asked him quite a few questions about it also. It sounded so good! Of course it didn’t hurt that Steve Morse was playing through it. It was very impressive.
