I understand that the economics aren't likely there for the old Jeep Cherokee, but it would make for a series of episodes that I would certainly watch from beginning to end. The pre-2000 vehicles tend to hold the most interest for me.

The Jeep 4.0 only had the head gasket issue for a year or 2 around 2001. There was one head design that cracked. If you see an 0331 casting number on the head, stay away. Otherwise they are incredibly reliable engines.
@wolfhound4010 Жыл бұрын
I have owned many Jeeps. Grand Cherokee and Cherokee’s. 4.0 is the best engine Chrysler ever made. Never had any head gasket issues. My current Cherokee is a 91 with 228,000 miles on it. Best vehicles I have ever owned.

I love the ZJs, I picked up a cherry high mileage 96 for $800 last year. Only a few hundred into it so far and it was one of my favorite buys so far. Needed a set of battery cables to sort electrical and needs some cosmetics, headliner, etc.

The Jeep Cherokee sports (XJ) are loved as cheap off-roaders. They came as both 2wd and 4wd. I think they look good and I bet a 4wd one would do well on the channel. They look sweet with a lift and fat tires!

“Who’s gonna watch a Jeep? Nobody loves these things like I do” I absolutely feel ya man, my favorite car to work on and really just to look at is the XJ Cherokee, and people always say “it’s just an old Jeep” but there’s just something about them that attracts me.

Another sweet video just as I finished the last one! There was a Saab 9-7X behind the grey Nissan Altima at 9:28 that you should take a look at Randy. Might be sweet to see that. The Grand Cherokee would be an interesting series to watch. If you ever got your hands on a VPG I would watch that any day. Yes the Matrix and Pontiac Vibe share the engine and mostly mechanical stuff. Love them both. The Mercedes was cool and maybe you should try your luck with the Cherokee sport.

Just for future reference, 4WD was available on all Cherokees. Sport, limited, SE(base) classic, and country, which was the limited but in different years. That Cherokee is called the XJ. 84-2001. Shame it’s only 2WD. I had a 2 door sport with the 4.0 and 5 speed. Even had a factory optioned, rare, swing away exterior spare tire carrier. Absolutely loved that Jeep.

specs on the VPG if anyone is curious.. Engine options are a 3.7L cylcone v6, or a 4.6L modular v8. Paired to a 4 speed or 6 speed automatic. Also VPG stand for Vehicle Production Group, mv-1 meaning Mobility Vehicle 1

Fixing that XJ is about 400 in parts and a couple hours of wrenching. The front bumper is metal, and it bent around the frame end. The airbags are another story, that's the most expensive part of the repair. 221k is barely broken in; I have 330k on mine.

So I have a 95 ZJ Laredo which was a flood vehicle out of Richmond Va. after Hurricane Gaston in 2005. The original owner kept it in his back yard for 6 years until finally posting it for sale for "parts" in 2011. After some laughter, fun and games and a little bit of a dare the original owner said I could have it for $50 if I could get it out of his yard without a tow truck. Sooooo....lots of wd40 down the spark plug holes, new plugs, alot of new gas and what seemed like 50 cans of starting fluid that darn thing started and moved itself out to the street....barely. Fast forward 12 years it has Va. antique plates and starts faster and easier than anything I own. The 4.0 really is a masterpiece of an engine.

Love the Jeep, the 1992 to 1998 ZJ's were awesome, my favorite vehicle I've ever owned was a '93 5.2 Laredo. The problem is, you could put a million dollars into it, and it'll still be a 25 year old, sub $2k at best, shitbox. '98 5.9 Limited or a Wagoneer GC, maybe, that thing is hammered. Clean XJ's are worth they're weight in gold.

On that Mercedes, I don't remember every detail, but Tavarish did a face-lift on his to the headlights with the 3 running lights and according to what he said, it's a little more than headlights. Essentially it's the same identical car underneath, but face-lifted to look nicer mid-generation run. I believe he said it was headlights, grille, front bumper, rear taillights and maybe also rear bumper? And as you noticed too, the steering wheel. But both bumpers were just minor changes, things you'd be aware of fully if you owned and used the pre-face-lift daily long enough to know it like the back of your hand.
