I think that's exactly why so many of these puzzle types originate from India and China. Meditation and Self Reflection is so much a part of their ancient culture. As humans became more developed in their thinking, it became more difficult to relax our minds, so these things were developed not as a distraction tool but as a focus tool. I think they are very cleverly designed to focus specific parts of the brain, in the same way a meditation chime does. I find it fascinating. Just marvelling over the beauty of the grain of a polished piece of wood brings me pleasure too.

@@penfold7800 i don't think i am qualified to speak about China,but the "wise" age of the Indian subcontinent is long gone, we're no longer the meditative and reflective country we use to be,we have become as materialistic as the rest of the world and run the rat race, many Indians call this period "Kaliyug" i.e. Dark age.

@jameshall1300
@jameshall1300 2 жыл бұрын
@@raymond.duncan my guess would be pull down. It's probably just a small electromagnet. A true magnetic repulsive force would be harder to tune than a variable electromagnet in the base. A coil gun ( a.k.a. mass driver ) works this way also, pulling a small mass of metal along a path with annular electromagnets. A rail gun ( that pushes instead of pulls ) can achieve much higher velocities, but is generally much more difficult and expensive to achieve.

@@caseygiles1368 the speed the ball would get with gravity alone isn't enough to get it up to where it started. An electromagnet in the base pulls the balls down fast enough to shoot up, out of the magnetic field and up into the cup. Gravity alone isn't enough to get it going fast enough.

@penfold7800 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's as simple as that. Why does it need an Arduino computer to control it. The circuitry also looks like there's a voltage stepper, so it's possible that the balls are also energised or magnetised briefly in some way, and the electromagnet only turns on and repels the balls after they hit the bottom of the base. If it was attracting the balls and was on constantly, that same attraction energy would cancel out the extra energy gained as it would still be pulled back on its journey upwards.
@christopherpenny6216
@christopherpenny6216 2 жыл бұрын
@@penfold7800 you're probably right, you sound like you know more. My thought is that a constant downward pull on the left side would give the ball enough speed to break the pull as it shot up the ramp If there was a timing thing or whatever wouldn't multiple balls mess it up?

Very good, Chris. I can appreciate the Tao-like approach you take to these. Puzzles can be expensive, sometimes exorbitantly so, but like art their value is in the eye of the beholder and if the owner feels they are worth the cost, then they are to them. Nothing you do that brings you joy is a waste of your time. It took me a while to learn that lesson myself.

Inspirational and you sold me. I want these items to put my own hands on them just by the way you portrayed them. Thanks for what you do for truly what you do is more than you can imagine and as we have seen your imagination is grand.

The quiet way Chris says "So are you satisfied now? No? Then let's just pretend you didn't see that last part." And the timing of the delivery was perfect. Loved it. And the production of the pagoda presentation was flawless. Your team is amazing.

With the perpetual illusion, I would be interested what exactly is the Arduino doing? I honestly thought that it would be some kind of repelling electro magnet that gives the ball extra energy to make it back up the slope. I don't know why you would need a cpu to control that when the fall rate of the ball is a constant, so the repel rate should be too. Just having a simple solenoid switch or LDD would do the switching on and off of the magnet.

The magnet needs to be controlled. If the magnet was on all the time it would take at least as much energy from the ball as it gave it. It is probably an electro magnet that is always on and pulls the ball down while it is on its way down. The moving ball in the magnetic field will also create a change in the current flow that can be sensed by the controller so it can turn off the magnet in just the right moment.

I believe it works with any ferro magnetic sphere of the right size, which means the magnet can be on only until the point that the sphere will begin to decelerate. The arduino would be running some kind of electric field sensor to know exactly when to turn the magnet on and off for optimal effect

I’m happy that you showed the marble device, I was annoyed when seeing it online and perplexed because, well, it shouldn’t work… Also that pagoda puzzle is quite beautiful, and your narration fit the vibe beautifully (:
