I've had this for somewhere between 6 and 9 years ago - cant remember when i bought it but know where i worked and where i lived and so that's the best i can narrow it down to. Initially i was using it about 6 hours a day but after a couple of years that went up to about 12 hours a day and only over the last year it's back down to about 6 a day. It has remained comfortable and well loved for all that time. Yes the faux leather started to peel about 3 years ago - at the front under my thighs, the lower back and in patches on the upper back from my shoulder blades but i expected that and i dont notice it when im sitting in it!. If people are bothered by the thought of the peeling over time and constant use, cheap stretch seat covers from ebay or draping a fabric over might prevent it or hide it once it happens Unfortunately two weeks ago the chair succumbed to my lockdown extra weight and my heavy usage and i need to replace it - i leaned over the arm to reach a pen on the floor and the chair ended up bent at 45 degrees. i bent it back but now it bends in every direction if i move at all and feels like something will snap. As i don't still have the receipt and am unsure exactly when i got it i cant use the warranty to replace it. I've looked all over for anything that works for me as well as the Millberget does but to no avail so I'm going to head back to IKEA and hope that the new version of this is still as good. If they havent ruined it then I will get two (one for my gaming/streaming pc and one for my home office work area) That's how much i rate the comfort and support it gives and it lasted a lot longer than most chairs do with my weight and heavy usage - I can't rate it highly enough

Oh and for reference info / comparison I'm 6'1"(1,86m) and 240 lbs (110 kg) with very broad shoulders/upper back and waist, and suffer from lower back pain in most chairs after 20-30 minutes but can sit in the Millberget in comfort for 10+ hours easily.

maybe it’s just me but i’ve had this chair ever since it came out, use it about everyday and have loved it! the pleather has peeled away a bit at the armrests/seat and sure it’s cheap quality but idk this thing has been so comfy for me and no need for extra cushion or lumbar support etc.

I have both the Ikea 'Markus' and 'Millberget', and imho the latter feels more comfortable than the more expensive 'Markus', however, probably due to its low cost, the Millberget develops an annoying squeaking noise after some time. In any case, I would strongly recommend you avoid the faux (p)leather option - this stuff starts to peel off pretty quickly and its not a pretty experience!

I honestly don't think there is any chair in the world where you sit for hours and barely move but still feel comfortable lol. Our lower bloody needs blood circulation so whatever the seat is, as long you can wake up and stretch every hour your butt should be fine.

This chair was given to me a few years ago by a friend who wasn't happy with it. I took it since the chair I had was falling apart and its free so what more could I ask for. Not too long after having I noticed the chair did not have enough lower back support for me so I had to by a mesh lumbar for it. And I am glad you mentioned the shallow depth of the chair, this really started to bug me recently as the chair was beginning to lose comfort as time went on. Unless you are a short person I really dont recommend this chair, I'm just glad I got it for free instead of paying $70 for it. I just upgraded to a new chair from Staples and I am hoping this one provides better comfort and back support for me.

Did you know there are 2 version of it??? The one manufactured before 2019 and the one after? The old one is more comfy and a little bit titled backwards (at rest without using the spring tilting) and has more sponge to its front The new one is a little thinner on the front (as the one in the video) and is straight, no subtle backward tilt at rest and sometimes with heavy weight it tilts forward which is a pain in the butt... Just wanted to share, the standards change with ikea 🤷🏻‍♂️

Good to know. I have the older one which also lacks tilt resistance which can be adjusted on the newer model. I've had it for a while but have only been using it heavily for the past 2 years Mon-Fri 8-9hrs a day. No cracking of the PU yet.

Thank you for this comment ! I have the old version and unfortunately while leaning back, a armrest snap. And as on this model, armrests are the only thing holding the whole back of the chair, well, it's dead. So I was looking to buy a new one and noticed the stitches are not the same and it looked a little thinner on the seating part, and I was wondering what where the differences (apart from the auto-locking wheels), and couldn't find the answer anywhere but here in your comment ! So really, thank you for sharing, thanks to you I won't be doing the mistake of buying the new model ! :)

@@Glorious.Return Oh! You're welcome but it's really me who thank you for your comment ! I've been struggling for like 2 months trying to find a new desk chair. I've seen all they have on amazon, and many other websites, every time the description makes it look like it's the best chair ever and when you start reading the comments, it's always bad quality. I looked on office websites and chairs are like 800€, and big quality brands chairs are more like 2000€ 😖 I wanted to buy something else than my Ikea chair because I saw that the weak point was the armrests (for me). I've looked so many models while seating on a very bad wooden chair right now and having a backache, I was starting to go crazy not finding a good model, scrolling through thousands of models with my back hurting, feeling the urge to finally find something decent, and all I've been able to do is to come to the conclusion that I have the choice between bad quality at 100€ or bad quality at 400€ 😁 So in the end, I felt like "well, seems like the Ikea at 100€ is the best option as at least I know its weak points" but I was doubting the new model was the same quality as the old model. I was literally planning to go to Ikea tomorrow to get it and end this madness and my backache. And here you come in my mad crazy search for a chair and prevent me from making a bad customer choice at the last minute ! You can't even possibly imagine how helpful your comment have been ! So many useless comments, and only yours is the very much needed information about this chair ! I hate it so much when I finally buy something, feeling I made the good choice and end up with a big disappointment. Thank you a million times, and I sincerely mean it ! I wish everyone was like you on internet, kind and helpful ☺ I'm going to do the same thing as you did, buy a cheap replaceable one as they're all bad anyway ! 😁 At least, no disappointment ahead, I already know it won't last long ! Take care please and cheers from France 🙂

@@Mat_1000 Aww.. Thank you for appreciating it. Take care of the backache I have the same thing! The new ikea chair was definitely adding up to my pain since I was always trying to force it backwards while it leans forward! Get one that has a back mechanism separate from the seat and has a tension spring to make it lean backwards (again separate from the seat and not held by the arms) easy or hard as per your adjustment. That's the cheap one I got. I read that ikea saved 0.5$ from the changes they made to this model but i am not sure. Kinda crazy world we live in. Again I appreciate your reply and it does make me happy to be of help. Take good care 🥰

My chair has like 8 years and doesnt make much noise, I would say its almost new in that regard, and I've raged a couple of times kicking the chair to the ground lol... so I would say the build quality its pretty fucking good. (also note that I dont use the tilt function, if I used it more it would probably be making more noise) The height adjustment mechanism broke almost two years ago, just used a small pvc pipe and its "fixed" (ofc i cant change the height anymore but I always used it at this level so all good) Armpads are worn out, but I use the chair between 2-8hours a day so its expected, and you can always buy some aftermarket ones Hope this helps whoever is thinking about buying it

correct, I bought 2 of these chairs 2 years ago before I knew this. A friend of mine had a 3 year older model than mine, that was the most comfortable desk chair I ever sat in. (I'm in between 6 foot 3 and 6 foor 4) But my chairs feel horrible., I modified them to lift the front sides up about a centimer, but it's not nearly enough. They are extremely uncomfortable to sit in for me, especially for longer sessions. I just wish they still made them like they made the version my friend has, I loved that chair, but mine are horrible. Ikea refuses to acknowledge the problem, but it's actually a manufacturing and design defect that slipped in because of oversight. But they don't solve the problem because they don't acknowledge it and say the chair hasn't been changed. Bu the bottom has a completely different design to the version my friend has. The cheaper chair, I think it's called Rennberget is a chair owned by another friend of mine and that chair blows my versions out of the water in comfort. I'm debatting buying that one, but I don't trust Ikea anymore with these more budget office chairs. Burned myself on 2 of them, and am afraid to buy another manufacturing flaw by them again :(

@@melo3427 For me it gets hot and the legs and arms. My hamstrings get sore in an exhaustion type feeling. The material at the arm rest will eventually peel. I've had it for 5 years. It's great if you have bad posture (tucking leg in, slouching). It's tough to sit in for awhile, but doable if you're really focused. After 3-4 hours you'll want to sit somewhere else. So it's comfortable until you realize it isn't. But it's never uncomfortable right away.

Do yourself a favour and don't buy this chair. Normally I'm a fan of IKEA products, so I was shocked to find out how bad it is after I bought it. It has a slight but noticeable tilt to one side so if you're sitting, your weight will actually force you to twist to one side. Also, every morning when I sit on it, it goes down and I have to readjust the height once again. Arm rests are in an awkward position and are not adjustable. The material wrinkled just 2 weeks in, and I only weigh 70kgs.
