Hiya Martin. I agree with you. The pot should state 500ml or maybe 550ml. When you buy any container 10lts, 20lts or 25lts, that is the liquid you get, but there is always extra space available inside. This is done for safety. Expansion and contraction of liquids and the gases they may produce at varying temperatures. The company stated its full capacity, no mention of safety space when boiling up water. If it was produced in western Europe, the company wouldn't get away with their statement of 750ml. When you buy a litre of milk, there IS a litre of milk in the carton, with extra space. Simples lad !!!

Awesome content. I wanna make a slight correction, which doesn’t even matter but I’m picky lol. Titanium does not disperse heat quickly. It is not a good heat conductor. What makes it conduct heat fast to the contents is it’s thickness - it does so because it is very thin. In fact it performs almost exactly like thin stainless steel. Both materials get burn spots easily because they don’t conduct heat well. Aluminum, which is a better heat conductor, will get less burn spots at the same thickness, but will still burn ofc.

Thank you sir. Picky is the way to be. That's how we learn. I would even question is it fully titanium. 🤔 I must test ALU and titanium. See which burns quicker. Interesting. Thanks for the info. 🙂

@@soletrail yeah I have heard others question the materials of these cheaper titanium products as well, and I must say I have my doubts as well. Would love the test of boil time Ti/Al with same thickness. Pot width plays a huge part in efficiency btw.

I have the same question about if it is trully titanium. What I've found is the titanium when burned hot tends to get a blueish/purple colour, and it happened on my titanium cookware. Also titanium is a healthier metal for cooking compared to the aluminium that far more toxic. And there is people that even cook on plastic stuff..hahahah@@soletrail

I love my one. I got the one without the bail handle and put 3mm silicon tubing on the folding handles and lid grab. If I was going to be using it on a fire I'd definitely get the one you have.

I agree with you on the size confusion. A 2 cup measuring cup has a one inch space above the 2 cup mark. It is common for companies to play with words.

And this is exactly why I like to go out and visit a real brick&mortar shop where I can look and feel real products before buying them. But honestly, the photos I find at webshops do show a 500 ml scale going up to 2/3 of the pot so that should give you a clear indication of what the usable contents of this pot is. Looking at other pots and pans, I see them all specified in this way. I just bought a 1600 ml pot from Widesea and that has a "900 ml -- MAX" imprint on the scale. Looking at product photos I already noticed there is a 1400 ml mark right at the top of the pot so it's not even 1600 ml. Do I complain ? No, I have seen the product photos so I knew what to expect. Fun fact: that pot (and also other Widesea stuff my friends and I bought) is all lighter than advertized - you don't see that happening too often 😁

Sorry Martin but you're wrong 🤣 The size of the pot is the constant, the volume of water you put in is the variable. If you want to heat 750ml of water you buy the next size up. Sure if they just start making them any old size and say 500ml then the world will just fall apart 🤣🤣🤣

It makes more sense if you get the Tomshoo, set. So you have a 750ml pot and a nesting 450ml cup, plus Folding spork. You boil the water you need for the cup. The trangia will fit in the cup or small gas stove.

Thinking that the volume capacity of a cooking container means water is a you problem. I'm sorry that you don't know how cooking pots are sold. They're listed by the volume of the internal space, not the recommended amount of water you can safely boil.

True Alan. In my head I was buying a pot that boils 750ml so my fault. Just thought that if they advertise 750ml then it could be an 800ml pot that you can boil 750ml. But you're right with the size..

No where does it say "Maximum fill level 500ml" It just happens to be their last graduation line. I fully expect you can comfortably accommodate 650ml of water and boil that, no problem. I will get round to doing a test, but better if you do it for yourself. Thanks for sharing.

Oh weird I have one of those but my bail handle (didn't know it was called that) doesn''t stay up, it's rather annoying...I have the coffee press version (which I've modded with a new lid knob instead - found one that fit at B&Q, although annoyingly metal) because I now use a Brew Buddy to save weight, and tbh it is almost as good. The stainless cafe press bit was too heavy! But my issue is: this doesn't fit most gas canisters. It does a few - the Coleman Extremes fit, just, and those tiny 100g canisters for weekend hikers :-P but most are too wide. If they'd made it a little wider, it would be amazing. But many don't. It's really annoying. It's why I have a Fire Maple 1L pot now - and the fact that as you say about the pot, 750ml is a great size for just water, but for cooking pasta or rissoto it's a bit too tiny as it fills to the top. And also...well titanium just isn't that good for cooking..I am planning to do a video on cookware if the weather stops raining!
@soletrail
@soletrail Жыл бұрын
It's interesting to hear your experiences with your camping gear, Tim! I can understand how the non-staying bail handle can be annoying. Your coffee press modification sounds clever! Weight-saving is crucial for camping. It's a shame that the stove doesn't fit most gas canisters; a slightly wider design would indeed be more versatile. The Fire Maple 1L pot sounds like a good alternative for larger meals. I look forward to your cookware video - hopefully, the weather cooperates soon! ☔🍳 By the way. New SUB from me. Keep them coming.

Hi Martin. Hope you are well. Nice thorough review. As regards the fill level !! Its not just Lixada, my Toaks 750 is the same, filled to the very top it takes 750 ml. So really its a 550 pot at best. Its a good thing to highlight all the same, especially for people looking to buy these pots. Take care 👍

TBF you can fill it to the brim if you are simmering and watch it, I have done this with pasta and risotto but you do need to watch it for boiling over. But yeah, the size of this pot being just a little too small for a good meal and that issue is why I now have a Fire Maple 1L heat exchange pot. Might not be as 'ultralight' - but actually they aren't that different in weight oddly, I do wonder if the Lixada is really pure titanium cos you get white if you scratch it.

@@soletrail It's only confusing if you don't understand cookware or containers, and assume that volume measurements must refer specifically to boiling liquids. If I'm hauling water to put out my fire, that's a 750 ml pot, which is much preferable to a 500 ml.
