Can confirm, Chef. I haven't been there in years, but I had a girlfriend that lived up W. Belfort on the other side of 59 and we would go there a few times. That was back in like 2017-18 and they were great. Had good daiquiri's, too. That place looks like it doubled in size now.

It's been years since I've been to Mikki's. My goodness, they really have expanded, since I was last there in 2012. They do have good food, my favorite is the fried pork chops ( I don't like to fry anything). I was thinking, " the parking lot is not crowded", lol. Looks really nice in there. That Shipley's still on the frontage. This might make drive over there, lol!

Order the child’s plate to go...it’s way cheaper and the portion is a perfect size! Then sit and eat it there....😂. Their regular portion is enough for two people. Them yams and the cabbage are great, but it’s all good....oxtails and anything smothered! I gotta go it’s been a couple of years...I live about 15 minutes on out 59. Be warned, make sure you don’t have anything else planned for the day because you will get extremely food drunk! 🤣

Good clean restaurant, I'm a black catt in northern California and we dont have great selection of soul food joints, LA might have some, but on my cross country road trip I'm stopping off for mikkis by 59, usually bbq joints and restaurants leave cakes out for a few days until sold and they dry out.

The answer is no. I patronized this business from its beginning in southwest houston. It was a warming experience with delightful old school soul music playing and walls full of photos of visiting celebs taken with staff members. The food was a welcoming experience because there's no other soul food joint around. Fast foward to today. The faces of the traditional soul food cook has changed and so has the taste of the food. The prices are waaay to expensive for a common meal, and the menu options have not grown. Most importantly is the rudeness of staff. I've never encountered such rude food servers. Hopefully they will see my comments that I'm sure are shared by others as well, and move to make mikis a place that people can go to and experience something that we grew up on....food for the soul

I'm sorry, but I haven't been to Mikki's in while. I used to go often when they first opened, but a couple of years after the flavor changed, so I stopped going. I figured maybe, they changed cooks, but after trying them a year later, I assumed they changed the recipe. Now I don't follow people or fads and don't care what celebrities may say today, but the food looks good, but the soul of it just ain't there. I recently tried it again, and my feelings haven't changed. The looks is there, but the taste is off... Maybe needs salt added to the pot when cooking, cause God knows I had to add it when on my plate. Reminds me of hospital food, but I'll try it again maybe in six months or so just to see if the seasoning has been improved.
