If you include all the combat features of all Mass Effect and Dragon Age games, you will get KOTOR. EA and Disney are seriously leaving money on the table by not reviving the franchise.

Agreed. But I would say not only in reviving these franchises, but more so in reviving these priorities that made these franchises successful. I don’t trust current modern day BioWare and it’s proven consistent track record to successfully revive these franchises because they have the wrong priorities

Kotor is what made me a fan of Starwars in the first place. I still play Kotor 1+2 to this day I think I beat both these games over 20 times already and every time I play I find something new.

I dont understand how yrs later, they got worse. KOTOR was the absolute greatest game ever. I played it mutiple times, opening new quests each time. Such an amazing adventure. I miss the gaming then. Today, everyone is too focused on who has the best toy to play games on and its silly af.

Yeah, KOTOR is the reason I got the original Xbox. Mass Effect is why I got the Xbox360. Jade Empire was great too. Then Dragon Age Origins. The Bioware golden age.

And just think, now they all (except maybe Jade Empire, not sure about that one) play on the current system. I'm not a huge console war person, but the number of PS players whining about how they can't play most of the Dragon Age franchise on their PS5's is kind of hilarious.

@Dantics exactly and while I do respect the game including everything a jedi fighter can dream of. Kotor is better because the player gets complete free reign on being light, dark or even Grey jedis with access to almost every known jedi power in existence

11:08 want to know what 11 year old me did to get past this? I didn't kill the rancor OR grenade the body pile. I bought as many concussion grenades as I could and chain-stunned the rancor to get past. I couldn't figure out any other way. The fact that this game has incredibly diverse story paths AND gameplay is why it remains my favorite game ever made. Really glad to see people still talking about this classic.

One thing I know for sure: When Rogue One played the line "Call in the Hammerhead", the whole theater *exploded*. *Everyone* acknowledges this game. In terms of gameplay, I would actually put KOTOR 2 a little higher. It does suffer a bit from the short production time, similar to DA2, but it honestly improves on a lot of features. And, if you have access to the restored content mod, you really can't tell that there was a problem to begin with.

We are very different, as a kid I passed the rancor using the grenade and bait method. Since I have stealthed past, but I never knew you could defeat it in combat because it would always one-shot me

I still have my original copy of kotar for the original Xbox and it still works and I still play it. I also have it and knights 2 on steam and still play them. I adore these games

KOTOR is not only the greatest BIOWARE game, but it is one of the best games of all time. Period. All I want is a KOTOR remake or KOTOR 3... but video game creators never listen to the fans so I am not holding my breath.

With KotOR 2, Kreia was a very interesting character. And there were two encounters with an option that still for some reason crack me up today: Paraphrasing: Loan Shark enforcer 1: “You better have the credits he owes.” Meetra (the Jedi Exile): “How about you two jump off the nearest walkway instead.” LS 1: “Ah, that sounds like a good idea. Let’s go!” LS 2: “Yeah! We will get to the bottom faster that way.” Kreia: (WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!) (Meetra walks in on some Mandalorians) Meetra: “Quick, hand over your valuables.” Mando Group Leader: “Perhaps you don’t know what we are. So I’ll let it slide. If you turn around now and forget what you saw here.” With KotOR 1, there was bug that prevented you from completing the Pazaak championship. I helped fix that, (or rather, left a post explaining how to fix it). The workaround for widescreen and higher resolutions are a pain though.

There was a bug in the xbox version of kotor 1. If you went back to a planet you had previously visited then one of your allies in the ship would turn into the wookie character. At one point towards the end i had the ship full of allies and 3 of them were the same wookie.

The only way I would have accepted putting outlaws in the same video as kotor would be if you mentioned how tragically bad outlaws was. Kotor still stands up way better than outlaws ever will.

Great video, Dan! Well said . Love these franchises specifically because of the priorities that old OG BioWare had that made them successful when they created them : appealing escape . Priorities are always key. As far as Star Wars is concerned, I only really had two that I ever liked or really invested any time with. 1. Kotor as an excellent authentic RPG. 2 . The force unleashed as a great authentic action adventure game. Excellent bad ass MC .

Both KotoR games stand on an entirely different plane from Star Wars and Bioware games that came after. Dragon Age Origins was the closest in terms of how it played, but it moved the Good and Evil choices to the background, you could make whatever choice you wanted and just had to face the consequences. It also had the best contained narrative for Bioware games I'll argue. Dragon Age 2 gave some of the best smaller stories but dumbed down a lot of the systems. Dragon Age Inquisition practically removed the choice system entirely, nothing you do outside of relationships really had an impact at all, it did make combat look "flashier" though even while removing options and narrowing play patterns. I'd talk Mass Effect but aside from the Paragon/Renegade system that series is mostly it's own thing. For Star Wars games you've got Jedi Survivor and Outlaws, not counting Jedi Academy as that was around the same time as KotoR. I think Survivor gives you a more linear action game and Outlaws tries to fulfil the idea of being a sneaky scoundrel, to varying degrees of success. KotoR gives you the best of everything, even if it's really a dice system rolling in the background and the visuals having aged. EDIT: I forgot about Orlais, technically there is a section of Dragon Age: Inquisition where you can make a choice which has impacts outside of relationships.

I agree. Impactful world choices would be nice. I wish they made the storm coast draining water world impact a choice in Inquisition rather than a story requirement

Cope is real. Kotor 2 is better in my opinion. BF2 2017 takes it if your talking time spent for me personally. Academy was great and survivor slaps harder imo too.

Kotor 2 narration is a little bit of a mess. But sure the philosophy behind, and the descontruction of star wars while still taling a starwars story that respect its mythos and universe is clearly unmatch. Kreia is still one of the most impactfull character i met in a game.

no not really , the story only hit once you reached a certain point and the combat sucked , if you want to know what game holds the goat title that would be star wars republic commando , never have i seen a star wars game that had this rich atmosphere including the music that hasnt been done before in other games
