As an ex-army guy, I can tell you the Jedi council has the same problems as any commanding force. You can't send them in directly because the knowledge, experience and leadership is too valuable to risk losing in some battle (that could be fought by a larger group of slightly less capable fighters who are told what to do). Some issues I have with some of your points: "The jedi council does very little"- this is addressed as a problem within the story, not a flaw within the worldbuilding. The jedi CLAIM that they do their best to solve disputes and trust the force to guide them to the right path, but that it is very contradictory. The game spends a lot of time to explore the Jedi's hypocrisy and contradictions, instead of making the Jedi and the Sith simply black and white. "Why did they send the main character to the ruins of Dantooine instead of going themselves?"- Again, this is about the jedi being hypocrites and sort of incompetent, but ALSO because they know that the main character is Revan. They want this "new" Revan to go to the ruins because he/she has a higher chance of getting info from the place, rather than a random jedi
@lorddracule9884 жыл бұрын
"They talk way too much about the dark side"- This theme of light and dark is not only one of the most prevalent themes in this game, but also Star Wars in general. It should be no surprise that they explore the moralities, benefits, and purposes of each side with many details. This is arguably one of the story's best aspects, but okay...
@lorddracule9884 жыл бұрын
"It would make more sense if Bastila and the council knew that I was Revan"- the first big oof of this analysis.... She knows. And the council knows. But they tried to keep it hidden from the MC and the main cast so that they could manipulate the "new" Revan. That's what made the twist so much more powerful
@lorddracule9884 жыл бұрын
"I don't buy into this redemtion Jedi stuff"- this point is irrelevant, cause whatever ethic stance you have when it comes the Jedi's moral code, it matter more in context than to you. The characters and factions have their own beliefs and codes to follow, and the Jedi trusted their own (even if it was flawed). What you would do in a situation like that doesn't matter to the story
@lorddracule9884 жыл бұрын
Bastila's turn- You probably didn't follow her dialogue story, but her whole arc was based around her being conflicted in the Jedi way, and the ways of the force. She was always in doubt about the Jedi, her own abilities and was missing her family, meaning she was close to turning the whole time. Malak capturing her is what gave her that final push to the dark side, and realize she was maybe being to naive

@@sithsaiyan4529 There are so many things that could ruin the remake if not handled correctly, political correctness is not really a front runner among them. There are a thousand reasons the sequels sucked. Political correctness was among those issues, but not one of the most important by any stretch. There are a million ways in which the overall franchise is being mishandled by Disney, why do we need to keep harping on political correctness? I know this is an unnecessarily confrontational comment, sorry to take it out on you. But it feels like Star Wars fans never shut up about political correctness. It's frustrating because Disney shows little consideration to the integrity of the story, the characters, or the world of star wars, and keep pumping out soulless, low quality, cash grab content that continually degrades the canon. Meanwhile all many Star wars fans harp on are their real world political views and the fact the Disney puts up the pretense of caring about liberal ideals instead of conservative ones. While extreme wokeness in media is annoying and makes for bad content, it's also only a minor factor in Star wars right now, not showing up in, or being the main problem with most bad star wars media. We should hold bad creators accountable by correctly identifying the things they are actually doing wrong, which is a LOT beyond annoying wokeness.

Luke being completely thrown aside as a weak disgruntled character and the entire plot line of the last jedi with the Lady commander etc. They used hyperspeed as a weapon to justify the strong female commander sacrificing herself story. I'm by no means a star wars loremaster, but I don't think that was ever a thing or supposed to be a thing. The whole point of this game was to show how Revan used both sides of the force to get the job done. He knew when he should be passive and when he should be proactive. It points out how the sith are killing themselves for power and how eventually it will be their doom. It also points out how weak and useless the Jedi are until someone forced their hand.
@nezzee3 жыл бұрын
I love listening to his whole spiel complaining about how it seems like the jedi council and republic does nothing, like with the Mandalorian war. Meanwhile I'm like... Almost like the storytellers are crafting you to have thoughts similar to Revan to make it understandable/believable as to what he/she did, and that you don't feel alienated from the twist... The whole first and second game were to almost kick the jedi off their pedastal and show why someone would walk away from what the movies built up to be the Justice League of Star Wars with super space wizards that can do no wrong. It still keeps the light/dark side of the force representing ultimately good and evil actions, but it does disenchant the Jedi as being a bunch of bureaucrats that are more worried about making a wrong decision than responding to a immediate threat (which obviously, many people can find frustrating). Obviously, it's still star wars, so dark side is corrupting and feeds off of strong emotions that eventually spiral you to classic villain "evil for sake of being evil", which is why Jedi actively try to AVOID these strong knee jerk reactions to avoid corrupting power of dark side (and why Revan/Malak fell victim of that corruption). All in all, they really did a good job of playing into the lore of star wars, while trying to detail out how someone could fall and "become" these villains. I wish they would have just made a KOTOR 3 instead of chasing money with an MMO (ruining what made KOTOR appealing), but oh well... That's just how the free market will do ya...

@@JJJBunney001 Their particular inaction leading up to the Mandalorian Wars is explained in both KotOR 1 and 2, though. They had just fought a devastating war against Exar Kun and his Sith, with massive losses that crippled the Republic and the Jedi despite the victory. The Jedi, in particular, were still desperately trying to replenish their ranks as the Mandalorians started their attacks on the far flung worlds outside Republic space. It also didn't help that, quite obviously, the Jedi were in the midst of implementing numerous systemic reforms throughout the Order in a vain attempt to correct its perceived weaknesses that led to the fall of many to the Dark Side. They had been a very vast, decentralized, and rather unorganized mess. The reforms were meant to centralize the power and authority of the Order (the Jedi High Council, with smaller local councils answering ultimately to them) and standardize Jedi training and formalized a "code of conduct," if you will (e.g., forbidding marriage and family to Jedi, which had not been the case prior to the war with Exar Kun, when you had whole Jedi lineages and dynasties). Each reform would have naturally acted as a shock to the system, hopefully strengthening it over time but devastating in the meantime.

I was a Consular/Scoundrel on my first playthrough, so that made the final battle against Malek ridiculously hard since i had no party members to occupy him for me to blast him with force powers.... So i ended up cheesing his AI by laying down a bunch of mines and spamming him with grenades when he was stationary. Even when i played through with a more combat-oriented build i found this worked better. Really, the game's combat is pretty garbage when it takes away your party. Thankfully it makes up for it in other ways and most of the time in combat you get to use your full party

If you need the first game to make the 2nd one better, then it is just not better. The characters in the first game are amazing, in 2 they are boring compared to the original cast. KotOR is finished KotOR 2 is an unfinished buggy mess that requires an unofficial patch to make it into a full and playable game. _How could a botched mess be better than KotOR?_ Revan vs "woah you were the 1st man of Revan you are so cool woah" . C'mon now, KotOR 2 playable characters are trash other than Kreia. Remove Kreia, the original cast and the only good character left is Atris. Sion and Nihulus are the worse sith characters ever created. Literally both of them are mute. They do not have any personality or goal. @@stevencastjohn701 You don't need KOTOR 2 to see that Revan and the Jedi went to war because the Jedi council didn't want to jump in. If anything, KOTOR 2 ruined the story by trying to read too deep into Revan by making him some sort of messiah figure instead of another powerful Jedi and Sith.
@BarlytheDwarf4 жыл бұрын
@@comicsans1689 If anything it's the complete opposite of that, my dude - Revan was explicitly referenced as someone who was _not_ a messianic figure, merely a man, who could move people because he was a natural leader. Being Sith, Jedi, or something in between, was secondary to that trait, as was his power. I mean, let's think about the themes of KOTOR 2 for a moment: Radical individualism, force of will, power through adversity, surreptitiousness, rejection of fatalism - Revan has, as an established (or in this case, referenced) character, these traits in droves. He's held up to the player as the apex of certain values, which you can either strive for, or reject outright. Revan's role in KOTOR 2 is to be a tool for certain philosophical juxtapositions the player is presented with, and to build on certain mysteries, especially about the ends justifying the means, and the nature of the Sith. To be frank, KOTOR 1 has far more of a "chosen one" -narrative, though, to be fair, it's still quite subtle. Now, I want to make one critical distinction: The ending of KOTOR 2 gets vague as hell, and I can see your point if you're specifically talking about the final conversation you have with Kreia; I'm still not, to this day, entirely sure what they were trying to imply about Revan (and presumably also the Exile) going off to fight a secret war or something. Admittedly, that does get a bit messianic, especially when the implication is that Revan is waiting for the Exile to join him, even though there is no possible way he could ever know she had regained her powers or was even back in action, for that matter. Then there's also the fact that for some reason (???) he had to leave everything behind to join (or possibly lead?) the fight. It made sense for him to try and manoeuvre the galaxy towards preparing for a war against something needs galaxy to be unified against, but to go off and fight it alone makes no sense and kind of implies that the Jedi Civil War didn't matter in the grand scheme of things.
@comicsans16894 жыл бұрын
@@BarlytheDwarf Going off of restored content and what Chris Avellone has said in interviews, it was basically going to be a supercharged version of what happened in TOR and the Revan novel. There was supposed to be these extra powerful Sith in the unknown regions that Revan was trying to unite the galaxy to fight, but it didn't make sense to fall to the dark side to do that. If stopping those Sith was Revan's true goal from the start, he could have easily gained the Republic's full support plus the Jedi that believe in him. All that would oppose him is the stubborn Jedi, which he could fight off with the Republic's backing (why would the Republic back the Jedi that turned their back on the Republic in this situation?). It seems like Chris Avellone was trying to take a page out of the EU with the Yuuzhan Vong and how Palpatine's Empire was originally created with the goal of unifying the galaxy against the Vong threat. It worked better then because Palpatine didn't divide the galaxy to accomplish it. If not for the rebels that formed after the Empire's establishment, Palpatine's plan would have worked great. I don't think Drew Karpyshyn originally envisioned Revan's fall as a sacrifice for the galaxy. The way that KOTOR 1 portrayed Revan indicated that he was a great man that was consumed by the thrill of power and battle after the Mandalorian Wars, which gives some credibility to the Jedi's caution. KOTOR 1 stressed clearly that even the best and brightest on the light side can be seduced by the dark side, which is in-line with George Lucas's ideas.
@TrenchantAtheist4 жыл бұрын
@@comicsans1689 The Empire wasn't created with the goal of defeating the Vong; Palpatine had already created the Empire when Thrawn realized that the Empire was well equipped and well organized to handle the Vong threat that Palpatine hadn't known about yet. Thrawn had also warned Palpatine that their resources would be better spent on larger, distributed fleets, rather than expensive, one-off threats like the Death Star. It was just tragically ironic that the Empire was ultimately the lesser of two evils, and was defeated before the greater evil could be addressed. It's also not unheard of for a Jedi to go to the dark side to defeat another dark sider - Luke did this himself to defeat the Palpatine clone in one of the books. But you are right that it would make more sense to lobby the Republic for support first, and try to coerce the Jedi to assist after the Republic was already moving against the external threat. Being as passive as they were, the Jedi were always more likely to get involved in a fight if their friends were already in it. As far as the messianic angle, I agree with both of you guys -- Revan was a great dude with a lot of character attributes who fell. The main reason to separate him from other Sith is that he didn't lose his intelligence or ability to gain his own wisdom over time -- maybe think of him like Gus Fring from the Breaking Bad universe (an intelligent man with a lot of insights on how people work and how to live a principled, if ignoble life). I chalk up Krea's declarations as just mere post-hoc prophecy, a poetic recounting of a historical event that will eventually become legend, the way people normally exaggerate events before writing them down.
@Rsmmt10094 жыл бұрын
Yooooo... you can romance Bastila and have a much deeper relationship character-wise with her. Then you can bring her back to the Light side... there is a lot of inter-playing dialogue that is missed unless certain things are done in order. <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="67">1:07</a>:02 Let me, a nerd, answer that: The reason is that the Masters need to stay on Coruscant and Dantooine to train new Knights. 1: If/When you do KoToR 2, definitely play with the restored content mod. It does as it says, restores content. KoToR 2 was rushed in production and a lot of really good content was cut in order to push it out. The mod restores all that content (Or at least most of it) and definitely helps flesh out the story. Also, I highly recommend playing as a female character in the 2nd game simply because a lot of interactions with a specific character are the absolute BEST as a female (The best lines) but it also fleshes out a lot of content when played "canonically" as a female. Though it is a game meant for multiple playthroughs. 2: I do agree that the KoToR game would be better in this day and age with an option to play as a gray Jedi. I know you can still RP as one, but the power buffs you get going full light or full dark are so strong that trying to beat Malak at the end of the game as a stealth-based player with high persuasion and wisdom focus was really like trying to win a race without the use of your legs. (I'm so glad I like to horde grenades and mines is all I have to say on that front). 3: You can cut down on the end battle with Malak by going around and either draining the dead Jedi people yourself and/or destroying them. This makes it so Malak can't use them to replace his health. So it can save on time. 4: You can actually save Bastilla and get her to use her battle meditation for the good guys. 5: I think the most fun I have with this game is when I play it "canonically" through the Revan storyline. Male character->Go light side->Romance Bastilla->Do ALL the side quests->Save the world. There's something satisfying in playing the lore out that way. I usually end up doing a run-through of both games back to back, both canon runs. I usually switch up where Korriban falls on the list of worlds. Sometimes I do it last (Because then it falls after the revelation) and sometimes I do it first, each with different headcanons for it. When I do it first, my headcanon is that it's like Revan's first true test as a Jedi after leaving the academy, testing his will to be a Jedi, with Bastilla spying on his progress and reporting his movements to the Council. When done last, my headcanon is it's Revan's test for himself, trying to see if the dark side still holds any sway over him because, at this point in my run, I have romanced Bastilla and that is strictly against the Jedi Order. So, in theory, the dark side should already have a hold on Revan according to the Jedi teachings and Revan knows he would do anything to save the woman he loves. But he finds himself able to push through the temptation, and with some guidance from Jolee (The only Gray Jedi he knows who has fallen in love and not fallen to the Dark Side) gets through the planet without becoming the one thing he fears the most: Who he was in the past. But I truly love these games and the Star Wars franchise (Rise of Skywalker? What's that?). I would absolutely love for them to get a remake, and there are rumors that one *might* be coming. Just as there are rumors that a movie based on the plot of the games *might* be coming as well. Time will only tell. I know the games have their issues and a lot of the story beats can fall flat in this day and age (Ex: Dark Side is only by being the most mustache-twirling villain and Light Side is only by being the goody-two-shoes Mary/Gary Sue. And Neutral is kind of bland). I still love it though

To me the ultimate test for a Light Side Revan is the tomb of Adjunta Pall. The fact that not only you can resolve the situation without combat (well, without fighting anything sentient) but if you have enough Light Side points and Persuation you can *redeem* the Ghost of one of the first ever Sith and allow him to pass on to the Jedi afterlife and see his old master again. *That* is the greatest proof that Revan is not corrupted by the dark side anymore in my opinion
