The old Studiologic SL880 does this job so nice. Also flat, DIN midi, 4 layers. Heavy, but great for studio. Heavy duty TP10, which much less plastic and longer action than more modern types like the Donner. Used they go for 300ish or less.

Hey brother, great review. I just wanted to let you know, maybe it's a new feature, I'm not really sure, but researching around on this model, the current model for the DDP-80 on Amazon show a 5-pin MIDI port on the bottom of the keyboard, as opposed to everything else that is on the back. I'm still trying to decide between this one and the DDP-300 myself right now, but enjoyed your review on this one. 🤙🏽 Many blessings. 🙏🏽

The KORG D1 with RH3 action and also used in the top of line KORG KRONOS is also $699 and hard to beat.

I've heard that both Korg D1 (RH3 action) and Roland FP-10 (PHA-4 action) are pretty heavy action heavier than most other weightes sigital piano actions. Which one of these 2 do you think is better? Have you had a chance to play/try both?

I have the Korg D1 - it is very much like an acoustic piano feel... closest of all

Closer than the Roland FP-10? Have you tried the Roland FP-10 (or any Roland PH4 action digital piano? FP-30, FP-30X, FP-60, FP-60X, RD-08, RD-88 are a few examples with that action)

I know I'm late to this video, but I just received this and can't find the drivers for it anywhere. Plugging it in, I don't see any sort of MIDI data coming through to Ableton. I was wondering how you got it working as a MIDI controller. I've got the USB plugged in but I'm not getting anything in Ableton. Are there drivers I'm missing somewhere? Any help would be appreciated!

Would u recommend this over the keylab mkii 88, as far as piano action? Love the arturia's contolability, just not a huge fan to play piano on it. Any help would be great:) Love your channel!

Like the fact that the top is clean for stacking another keyboard on top. If only it had pitch bend and mod. Then it would be a good choice for studio controller. Of all the midi controllers I’ve had I’ve still not found anything minimalist like a kawai vc1 with pitch bend and mod. I am settled right now with a NI kontrol s88 but it’s not gig friendly. For gigs I’m considering Casio p3000 but that large volume knob gets in the way of stacking another keyboard on top.

You probably could get round rubber stops from a place like lowes or home depot and place under a keyboard if trying to stack.

I have been trying since I posted the post with a jack cable. There is sound from the speakers, but then it is the Donner piano sound and not the piano sounds I want to use from Garageband/Ableton.

​@@Johnmike Also read a Q&A on the Donner site now: "Q: Does this have midi in/out, as in, can I play filtered sounds back through the speakers? A: Dear customer, this product has a MIDI port. You can input the MIDI signal of the piano into the computer, and then get the filtered sound you want on the music editing software of the computer, but this sound cannot be played from the speaker of the piano."
