IS THIS THE BEST BATTERY FOR YOUR FISH FINDER?
I needed a larger lithium battery to power my new Garmin 93SV fish finder. My old smaller battery was not sufficient to power this new Garmin. I also needed a new charger for this battery. I show why I like this battery and charger so you can see also.

What fish finder battery do you use? How many amps per hour is the capacity of your battery?

Absolutely love your videos Gerry & appreciate all the time & work you’ve put into all of them. I’m probably wired a little differently than most with my TTX10. I got tired of my trolling motors not lasting long at all, so I broke down and installed (2) Lithium 100AH Batteries, 30lbs ea. I run a Garmin with LS & a Humminbird with Mega360 along with other DC tools on my dedicated electronics battery. Can go days on the Lithium.

Very interesting. What lithium battery did you decide is good? What charger do you use. The average charger is not appropriate for a lithium battery. I watched video on the Mega360, it is impressive. Gerry

I went with a company in Knoxville, Lithium Pros and purchased the charger they recommended for them. I’ve been doing some research here recently and giving serious consideration of switching the trolling motors to a new brand I’ve come across. Ionic Lithium’s, they’re offering a 125AH 12v. I’m really interested in switching & possibly going with two of them in parallel. I have access to several private farm & ranch lakes & ponds and do weekend trips a lot and the (2) MG 36lb Thrust seem to eat the battery quick. On another quick note, I can’t believe I misspelled your name after watching you all these years 😎. This is actually my first time ever posting with you and it’s amazing how much I’ve (my guess several of us) learned from you & your videos. I’ve purchased products and made changes to my boat from your experiences & sharing!

@@LunkerFishing Sorry for the confusion on my comments Gerry. I meant that I’m considering switching the current Lithium Pro 100AH battery over to a Ionic Lithium 125AH battery and not switching out my actual MG Trolling Motors. Those (2) MG 36lb Motors handle the boat really well, it’s just on larger waters fishing for long periods of time they take a toll on battery’s. I do get way more hours out of the Lithium’s compared to lead batteries and the lighter weight of the Lithium’s is a “huge” plus. So ultimately, I’m considering starting with (1) of the Ionic 125AH Lithium, trying it first on the motors and if still not getting more than 6 hours off the Ionic, my next move will be to move the Ionic 125ah over to the electronics and parallel the (2) Lithium Pros onto the (2) MG Motors.

Be aware of the relationship between amp hours and voltage. Watt hours is a much better unit for battery capacity. Your old battery was a lithium-ion with 3x 6Ah cells. Lithium-ion cells have a nominal voltage of 3.7v which means you have to connect the cells in a series to get a nominal voltage of 11.1v. Your old battery 18Ah at 3.7v but only 6Ah at 11.1v. 6Ah * 11.1v = 66.6 Watt hours Your new battery is a LiFePO4 with 4x 16Ah cells. LiFePO4 cells have a nominal voltage of 3.2v. 4 cells at 3.2v = 12.8v. 16Ah * 12.8v = 204.8 Watt hours So your new battery has 3x the capacity of your old battery. LiFePO4 has other advantages over Lithium-ion such as not catching fire or exploding. 12v LiFePO4 batteries should not be charged to more than 14.2v or discharged below 11.5v and should never be charged at temperatures below freezing. There is hopefully a BMS (battery management system) in the battery that shuts down if the charge gets too high or too low. Another thing is that 12V LiFePO4 batteries deliver close to 12.8V until they are almost completely discharged which means it hard to tell from the voltage how much charge is left but when it's below 12v it is very low.

@@LunkerFishing I'm sorry to hear about your brother but I'm sure he's catching big fish up there as well :) I found a teardown of the Miady battery by Will Prowse: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZ6Wc6Gmn9Sbns0&ab_channel=DIYSolarPowerwithWillProwse Best thing he could say about the Miady batteries is that they are cheap and they really are. I live in Europe so I can't buy american brands like Dakota or Amped Outdoors here but I just ordered a 12v 12Ah JuBaTec at $240. That's more than 4x the price of a Miady 16Ah - yikes! For some reason LiFePO4 batteries are just really expensive in Europe. Buy once cry once I suppose. If you find out that your Miady has a little less capacity than claimed just consider that I paid $240 for 12Ah and I'm sure you will be happy with your purchase again! Just make sure not to let it charge for too long :)
