I love both sets of coops. I've been considering building my own but the chicken ranger coops are very affordable.

Where did you get those broiler chickens? They look like the pioneer broiler from cooks venture.

They are the naked necks i think. We were testing a batch.

Sorry, but that chicken tractor is Disneyland for predators. I live in East Tennessee and all my chickens would be gone in a week.

We have a couple of these same coops. I’ve put about 1,400 birds through ours in Arkansas with coyote and raccoon pressure. Can’t imagine your area is that much different. We’ve had minimal issues. Raccoons pulled a couple chicks apart through the wire panels on one batch. No issues since. I hose clamped a couple Duke raccoon traps to each tractor and that seemed to solve my problems. Nothing has ever gotten into them, and if I’m on a spot of uneven ground, I just lay a 10’ long 2x4 on the ground against the side of the coop. These seem to be a logical step between Salatin/Suscovich-style ones and prairie schooners. There isn’t a cheaper prefab option when you weigh them against Hen Gear & Alumacoops. It would pretty much pay for itself in one batch of retailing direct or two batches wholesaling. Just my humble opinions.

@@ZaphodBeeblebrox1337 Thanks for the feedback. You're likely correct about the cost of building vs prefab. The uneven ground issue is indeed a problem regardless of the model/design of the tractor. I'm considering installing thick rubber skirts that install vertically but are long enough to lay 5 or 6 inches on the ground. Rocks or weights could then be used to seal the perimeter. Again thanks for the feedback.

Are Those plastic zip ties on an over $2000 chicken tractor
@ZaphodBeeblebrox13373 ай бұрын
Yes, they are. I ordered two of these last year to upgrade from Salatin-style pens and we’ve put about 1,400 birds through them. I’ve been concerned about the zip ties the whole time, but they’ve lasted over a year now on the original zip ties. We have raccoons and coyotes and have never had predator issues with these, except for a raccoon pulling a couple through the wire panels on one batch. I hose-clamped some Duke raccoon traps to the pens and that solved the problems. Very good luck with the nest box as well. These pens/tractors are expensive, but they’re the cheapest turn-key solution when you look at Hen Gear & Alumacoop. We ordered more than one so we’d feel better about the freight charge.
