Definitely agree with you on this! It was AC1 that got me into doing parkour in real life because of how much it emphasized control over the entire body and the precision to pull off certain moves. Even so it wasn't super unforgiving if you didn't take the time to learn/master some of the tricks (it took me 7 years to learn speed vaulting was even a thing in this game), but rewarded you greatly if you did. That balance and having the chance to mess around to learn new tricks was always so fun, even replaying the game now. Great video!

Thanks a lot brother fr! Its sick and interesting that AC got u into doing parkour irl because of how emphasized movement whole in the older game, when thing become contextual and automatic, it feels innately different. They really never show or tell u that vaulting exist, its crazy. Even the smalls things aren't pointed out, like being able to throw guards into shop stalls and those wooden"meat dryers to make the collapse. I saw vaulting from Whitelight's video on the retrospective of Parkour in Assassin's Creed. and yea just that freedom to mess up so u learn to catch ledge is a vital thing. Again appreciate the support bro!

Assassins Creed 1 appreciation? especially in 2024? YESSIRRRR. The overall controls, weight and parkour and combat you can FEEL and experience in this game is crazy. I mean i played this game when I was 8-9 and it was one of my first games i ever played. Ofc i was a button mashing idiot but when i took the time to learn how to do combo kills (yes at 8 years old) i truly felt like i was getting smarter in playing games in general. Overall killing the 60 templars with sick counter kills and combo kills like breaking their legs with the dagger combo kill or stabbing them in the head with the dagger (and with their own unique looks and locations around the holy land) was honestly just such fun and nostalgic and made me feel rewarded to an extent, the other half of me would be sad the fight ended so early so id be zooming into their armor and cool helmets all the time, even now. This was i’m pretty sure the first ever game i genuinely played and at my grandmas house, 11 years later i still play it and i genuinely can not understand how one can ridicule this marvelous game, without a DOUBT ahead of its time.

Good way to put it "ahead of its time", heavy agree. Beautiful game bro, was sick hearing ur stories, im gonna continue making AC content here and there. As a fan what would you like to see talked about or discussed in more detail? A video on the parkour is coming very very soon, been spending to much time with these manual vaults and parkour up and down swinging XD. stay tuned brother (oh yea and that question)

(imo) 1 and ezio's trilogy are simple but yet SO RESPONSIVE, when you click or do a combination of buttons, altair and ezio will do what you demand them to do. I love the kenway saga (ac4 is my favorite game of all time actually) but sometimes they can be so frustrating! Same thing with Unity but yet again thats expected, great video!
@AJjames03178 ай бұрын
Thank a lot brother! yea the kenway games in controls just aint the same as what came before, beautiful games regardless especially AC4 and 3, even rogue and liberation. the parkour feels better to and more fun to me than Unity. Yo to think of it I actually love the parkour in liberation, just the setting feels different XD

Man, I don't think I've seen anything, movie or game, that has moved me like the old AC games. This is probably my favorite game series ever and is one of the main reasons why my brother and I want to make games. I hope to one day make games that will stay with the player long after they play it.

The only time I really died or messed up on Parkour in the early AC games is when they put camera limitations on you and that caused me to face the wrong way and jump in the wrong direction.

Recently started playing Unity. As I only played the older AC games, I found the controls in Unity to be quite frustrating. Yeah it looks cool, but a lot of the times Arno just doesn’t listen to me. And before playing Unity I was playing Revelations and had a blast with the parkour system. In AC Reveations Ezio does exactly what I ask him to do but in Unity sometimes entering a building can be a pain in the ass. Like, I want you to go in the building, Arno, I'm not pressing climb up or down, just go inside ffs!
@AJjames03178 ай бұрын
XD yo legit dawg, feel ur frustration, like just hop down from this balcony ledge to go inside, but Arno trips tf out. Its annoying but when you've got the hang of it u can kinda repeat parkour sequences. That's the problem tho, we don't want the whole game's parkour system to be contextual like goddamn. and yo Revelations is an insane game, i actually like the bomb making shit, i played around a lot with that... close to the end of the game XD

For me the best control scheme will always be: X: light attack Y: heavy attack A: jump/dodge B: action bumpers and triggers: some mixture of lock-on, weapon select, special power etc. I know that's nothing to do with AC lol but still, that's a classic.

When I was a kid I only watched my siblings play the first game on the 360 for a bit, getting bored form the tutorial & seeing glimpses from the actual game. However, I recently got into the game & I can now say for 100% sure that the controls are the best game of Simon says that I have ever played. That is why they’re so intuitive! They’re color coded, visualized, & arranged like Simon says, but there’s a thing each button does & there’s always a reason for why to press it, so you can always remember what to press because instead of flashing a sequence of button inputs quickly, it presents a puzzle which correlates to the buttons! Who knew Simon says was better for platformers than for memory games! But to be fair the latter tended to stress me out so…eh…What do I know, I’m just an autist saying the game is autist friendly.

What are the best ACs for parkour? I'm mainly interested in the movement of ac where as you said in the video, everything is manual so which acs have the best parkour control and systems (looking to buy one on the ubisoft publisher sale)

To start off, defiantly 1-revelations. But if you want one out of those, for me, itll have to be between AC1 and 2. so depending on which city you want in which time period the actual differences come down to speed, which they increased to AC2 (im not the biggest fan), the heights of the buildings, which are also taller in Venice (AC2) but honestly I can look past that when in AC1 they have the vault mechanic which was completely removed from all later games, that and my like for the middle east setting is why I play ac1 over 2. for me the deciding factor is down to that vault mechanic, abit more to experiment with

For the sake of control, functionality, response times, context independence and absolute freedom, every single one of those boxes is best checked by the old schools (1 - Revelations). One big issue is that the games themselves aren't great at teaching the player how to actually properly engage with their movement systems, but there's plenty of great guides out there, from simpler ones (e.g. Leo K's overview of advanced old school movement, or Kinography's movement guide focused on intended tech), to more niche tech tutorials done by people like Execution Producer, among some others. Just recently, the modding scene also absolutely blew up for the old schools in the span of weeks, where certain parkour features were either made less contextual (manually triggerable vaults both in AC1 and AC2 so far/forced manual jumps), more controllable (parkour down bias) and plenty other features. Though, it's best to start learning from the basics to get used to the moveset, and gradually make your way to more advanced things as you do that :) For whenever you get into them, keep in mind that it's a bit of a rabbit hole and takes a bit of patience, but is insanely worth it, and I hope you'll enjoy it as much as the rest of us AC parkour heads do

Just finished brotherhood a few days back and currently playing AC3. Have to say tho, the character responsiveness, mmm...not so great compared to brotherhood. Just like you said; when you mess up while moving in the old games itz coz you did shit wrong. I find myself messing up with Connor despite doing things right (still getting used to controls tho, sometimes i press the O/X button to grab onto stuff while falling instead of just pushing up on the left stick. Yo parkour was so slick and systematic in ACB, i played that Thief mission "For The Fans" like 27 thousands times.
@AJjames03178 ай бұрын
brotherhood is a sick game and yea AC3's movement is nice and looks good but doesn't compare control wise, i also found myself pressing B/o to catch ledge XD. Sometimes when you're tryna just run, because the parkour button is the same as the sprint, u find ureslf running up walls inside of doing what u actually wanna do. Gotta get back to that "for the fans" mission. Appreciate the comment brother

It's a "good" way to pack a lot of functionality into 14 buttons, but my index finger disagrees on the ergonomics of it. The better way is to make a simpler game.
