So, what do you think? Is this one a contender for the title, or do you have a favourite in mind? This is a classy, unashamed desk diver, with vintage vibes, but not overly retro. I like the new/old bracelet, and the domed sapphire insert, and I could cope without a date. But could you? Cheers, Jody

Very cool that you get a tool kit with the watch. It's got the "Henry Ford" touch. Also it gives the purchaser the benefit of the doubt that they are capable of doing minor adjustments. That's been lost with most things today.

I love that they've completely reinvented the case design, case back, bezel and (especially) the bracelet. With such big changes, it really is something different, and not just a 'version 4'. This is a whole new watch. The polished sides to the bracelet links and the swoop of the case profile/lugs look fantastic. Great job, RLG 👍👍

I have come late to the table for RLG, Zelos and Christopher Ward and believe I have benefitted as a result. All have refined their watches with each mark. This is absolutely gorgeous. I love the pastel blue and the royal blue variant, as well. I don't mind no date, but I'm used to my Seikos with the date AND day complications, and I like having them. Overall, I'd buy it, honeymoon on it for awhile, and then put it into rotation, but it would probably never be the true daily. I love it though!

Already got a black dial and a white dial from previous versions. Great watches for the money. I prefer a no date dial as it's quicker to set if watch not been worn for a few days and my eye sight is crap so date cannot be read without glasses anyway. Great review as always. It's actually sunny and mild today in Edinburgh and I managed to order a Zelos bronze Swordfish yesterday so it's all good.

I pulled the trigger on the royal blue version on the first day they went on sale. I personally like that it doesn't have a date window. Always seems to ruin the symmetry in my humble opinion. Plus I have plenty of watches with a date. The sapphire bezel, double domed sapphire crystal and 39 mm size makes this one perfect for me. I have always wanted to try a Baltic Aquascaphe, but couldn't get past the $841 price tag when purchased with both straps. Although the RLG doesn't sport a Beads of Rice bracelet and a box dome sapphire crystal, it does have the same Miyota 9039 movement and 39 mm case size for more than half the cost. Looking forward to getting mine in April. Thanks heaps for the review, I had been looking for a review prior to purchasing and I believe you are the first to make one for the Mk IV of the Oddysea. I went ahead and purchased one anyway and am glad that I did. Keep up the great and honest reviews!

"Can you live without a date on your daily?" I prefer not to have a date on my watch, that way I can pick it up and put it on and not worry about setting the date. I completely agree with this logic. But further I think in the 21st century where NOBODY who is buying one of these is EVER more than an inch and a half from their phone I think the aesthetic of no date is A THOUSAND times better than date watches. To me no date is a no brainer.

I have got a few automatic watches that have date and also day of the week features. I tend to find that if I don't set them to the correct dates it irritates me and I take them off and re-set them!. I got the blue one. My niggles, bezel was way too stiff so had to oil it to get it decent. Underside edges on bracelet not rounded off quite enough. 39mm a bit small on my 7 1/4 inch paw. I really really wish it was more like 41mm as was a previous model. Other than that I love it, the blue sunburst is stunning and the applied bits n pieces look great. I stuck a Strapcode ratchet clasp on it, a bit chunky but love the convenience.

I agree with @Modris Golubovs; a date is a must for EDC type of watch. I must add; I'm wondering if an automatic watch would be tough enough to manage an impromptu task that would be more rough and tumble. I'd think a quartz movement in a stainless steel (or even titanium) case would be better suited (Bertucci-like watch with integrated lug bars are my go-to watches). @Jody - what's your take on automatic watches vs rough and tumble activities? Jody, You did it again. You made me buy another watch :) I have been lusting after a light blue dial for a while - and your enthusiasm for this one made me go ahead a purchase. This reminds me a LOT of the San Martin retro diver of recent. VERY Similar. Except of course for color. Case back not as nice as prior - but I don't care too much about that. Might add a 4th micro adjust hole on the clasp. So be fairly easy with a proper drill press. I do prefer a date - but, then I have countless watches in the collection that have a date, so - no date if okay (like the San Martin). Oh, and the San Martin does have the ghost date "feature" that this one does not.

Nice - seriously tempted to get one of these instead of the Doxa I had my eye on. The applied numbers look a tad naff though, partly due the under-filling mentioned in the video, but also the ugly corner on the "2". Realise this is a prototype but the numerals (aside from the aforementioned lume fill), looked very rough like they had not been cut out properly and unfortunately on this blue pastel dial it really shows against the black. I do like the dial colour and the overall look of the bezel and hands is spot on. Something about the numbers font/look is off for me, especially the 12, but I see it is the same in previous versions. The 1 of the 12 is made to look like an indice (i think) and it draws my eye in a non positive way...but hey, that is getting picky...given the movement and bracelet/clasp, I think for the $350 mark, it is great value and does have a high everyday wearability score.

I bought the RLG Oceanfarer matte black this week and it is all that's expected of an everyday watch. Great looking, all the specs you want, and a "strap monster". I'm telling you, there is not a strap I try it on it doesn't look great. Canvas, rubber, sailcloth, leather. I thought the short lugs would be an issue but they're not.

For me, one of the best daily is a heimdallr-willard-homage, totaly does it for me. I also love to wear my Seiko New-Turtle but the smaller size for the Heimdallr fit for most ocasions - and, well, I'm not a bracelet guy.

Great contrast in the dial. I love legibility. Better value than a Traska at that price.
