Today I explore the Bangsar area, which my subscribers have deemed the most popular expat neighborhood in the city of KL. After visiting quite a few different areas now, it's almost hard to say which is my favorite. I like Bukit Bintang, Bangsar, Chow Kit, Kampung Baru - I could easily stay in any of these places! That's still only a small piece of KL, there's definitely a lot more for me to check out. Thanks for all your donations and recommendations!

The luxury area of Bangsar is located on a hill. You haven't arrived yet. The first apartments you see are low-cost flats or government-built public houses. Bangsar hill is the beginning of the middle class area in KL, there are many areas for you to dive such as Damansara Heights, Kenny hill, Mont Kiara, Dutamas, TTDI etc. All on the hill. You can ride MRT Kajang to see some parts of it. You need transportation to get around the area, I suggest you find a friend, especially a lady who drives a car. 😉

@@benfishermin it use to be hype around the areas 10 years ago i think. But now places like that are all over Malaysia. That place is cars centric areas which is quite inconvenience . But you can take a look why not right. I personally think Desa Parkcity is much better than Mont Kiara. But Tropicana or Damansara (North Petaling Jaya) many expat living in Malaysia permanetly or for works choose this area. Mont Kiara kinda outdated i think.

Nasi Kandar places are definitely Malaysian as well as Maya difference is Nasi kandar places are Malaysian Indian Muslim . Malay people who are Muslim like to go to those places they are called Mamak. The food there is often combination of Malay dishes with strong indian influences because its popular among the Malays. Maya is more tamil non Muslim places and has little Malay influences, they specialize in vegetarian indian meals. Mamak places often open 24 hours hence popular. Malay restaurants dont usually open 24 hours.

Bangsar, a hilly suburb, is actually an old neighbourhood that grew organically over many decades. Bangsar Baru ("New Bangsar") is the nucleus where expats congregate to dine & entertain, and they probably reside in the high-end condos scattered along the hillsides of Bangsar. There are still many Malaysians who have been living for generations in the houses of Bangsar.... including the older apartments. The highest expat density (eg from Western, India), is still centred around KLCC, as they are usually employees in the corporate offices there. Those in the MM2H (Malaysia My 2nd Home) programme are also part of the expat crowd in Malaysia.
@benfishermin

Ah thank you. Was I more in New Bangsar in this video or the original older Bangsar on this walk?
@gundam4596
@gundam4596 6 ай бұрын
@@benfisherminyeah Ben, bangsar is quite huge area with many condos on the hilly side. The one you go is jalan telawi which is just a small portion of bangsar. But the town still accommodate some vibe for the expat life. Maybe at evening it will get a little bit happening for local and foreigners there to hangout. If you want to explore the area, you need at least rent the stand scooter. Bangsar, Mont Kiara at Damansara, is 2 main area for long term expat which normally a business owner not the employees. Those new expat maybe mostly in the city centre around KLCC because easier to get around.

Fasting during Ramadan is obviously for Muslims, although a majority of the Malaysian population is Muslim (63.5%), not everyone is. Hence there would be a good portion of the population that doesnt need to heed the fast. Neverless I think some that don't need to may fast in public out of respect or solidarity to their fellow citizens.

When you say Malaysian cusine, i think you mean Malay food. Indian Malaysian and Chinese Malaysian food is still Malaysian food. Of course they are influenced by their Indian and Chinese roots but have evolved due to local environments. Just specify if you want Malay or local ethnic food from Borneo Malaysia. For us Malaysians, the Indian and Chinese food in Malaysia are Malaysian food. FYI, Malaysian is a nationality. Malay, Chinese and Indian are races. Probably you need to research a bit of our history, starting with the British colonization of Malaya, then you'll know that we have Indian and Chinese food which are Malaysian food. If you want to taste local vibes, visit Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and all the other states in Peninsular Malaysia. Not to mention the Borneo region in East Malaysia consisting of Sarawak and Sabah.
