I’ve never shot one of these rifles or handled one for that matter, but man I would sure like to one day. I do however have a 6.5 x 55 Swede Caliber Sako rifle!!! I haven’t even had a chance to hunt with it a single season yet because it’s so new, but I’ve shot it and absolutely love it. It has almost no recoil but the damage it leaves and it’s path is devastating. It is A fantastic caliber, and has gained popularity here in the United States more and more in the last 10 years. It has quickly become my favorite caliber and rifle out of all my rifles. The only downside is it’s hard to find ammunition and most of the rifles made in this caliber, are not cheap rifles. I would highly recommend any of the rifles that were mentioned in this video just for the caliber itself and also highly recommend that caliber 6.5 x 55 for hunters. I think it’s going to be great and I will become a lot better shooter with it due to very little recoil and the type of bullet and case functionality that this caliber provides!

I have a Husquvarna Mauser now in 22-250 and an FN Mauser 98 in 30-06, both are excellent rifles. There ewe many 6.5mm Swedish military Mauser imported to here,(Oz) years ago, I didn’t really like “cock-on-closing” in them , but never owned one. My FN Mauser was in pristine condition when I got it and when it demonstrated that it could really shoot accurately I decided to spend some money on it. Shillen trigger, bolt bent, (a la Win. Mod 70) to enable low-mounted scope , good bedding and careful hand-loading based on 150 gn. Hornady spire-points. as well as a raised cheek piece. Result , my all time favourite hunting rifle! Davox.

I'll take my 96 over any 8mm I own. 6.5x55 is amazingly accurate and easy to shoot. Guess everyone has their own idea on rifles but the Swede has a place in my heart.

This is my go to caliber and in my opinion the best deer caliber. I’ve seen more deer drop in their tracks from this caliber than any other larger caliber. I shoot a 120gr BT at 2850fps. Sound familiar? It should because when they tried to reinvent the wheel it got us the 6.5 Creedmor. Ballistically identical.

I love the sound and feel of the cycling bolt on that rifle and just about all Mauser actions. Even my Ruger M77.

Back in the mid nineties, a store called Sports Authority was selling Swede Mausers for 50 bucks each. I bought 10 of them. I agree with your assessment of this rifle. They were also selling Number 4 Mark 1 Enfields, so you know what I did, don’t you ? I got good at the mad minute ! lol I love God, my family and Guns, also cars. Thank You for the great content and especially for the prayers.

My yugo m48 mauser is a beast. I love it and find my 8mm has little to no recoil imo . Anyone complaining about recoil just get a limb saver. But sights could be engineered better . Getting a scope mount and scope soon its gonna a be my deer rifle this year.

Dear GFG, I love, and truly appreciate your opening with the Met armor collection: The Sanctuary of my boyhood. I was looking for your video to show how the Swedish Mauser might have been a better choice for the Wehrmacht. I get the improved trigger, and that is surely a plus. Yet my sense is that one of the main advantages of the Swedish Mauser over the KAR 98k is the gentler 6.5 cartridge. Apart from that, what would really have made the KAR 98k a better battle rifle in WWII?

Love the Mauser action rifles, but I like something with a little more "ooomph"! I'll stick with my Remington model 798 in 375 H&H magnum.

I kicked myself in the butt for getting rid of a swedish mother back in the mid-90s, I had the Carl Gustav long rifle and it was a beautiful work of art. At that time you could get them easily, my mistake was getting rid of it.
