Einhander is an Incredible game. I often listen to this game's soundtrack while I'm doing work. I also really dig the sound effects in this title, as they remind me of an anime on Toonami or Adult Swim from the late 1990s-early 2000s (ex: Android Kikaider, Gundam, or Cowboy Bebop). It makes me think of a cross between Border Down and Xevious 3DG.

12:45 There are actually 12 gunpods in total. 8 of them, you encounter normally throughout the course of the game. The other 4 requires specific things to be done to get them The 8 you encounter normally are Vulcan, Cannon, Wasp, Spreader, Grenade, Hedgehog, Riot, and Blade The other 4 are Juno, Flash, Python, and Mosquito Juno is available in 3 locations (Alternative 1st boss, the sub in the 4th level, and one of the fighters in the last level) Flash is available in 2 locations (Get the S.Bonus for clearing all the falling drones during the elevator section in level 3, S.Bonus when fighting the monkey robot) Python requires you to have a Wasp and destroying one of the background trucks in the military base Mosquito requires you to head down to the lowest level in the factory area and breaking one of the boxes (I don't remember if you need a weapon that shoots backwards)

Truly baffling. Here Square had a potential shmup franchise that could go toe-to-toe with Gradius, R-Type, Darius & Thunder Force but after the merger with Enix, total silence. This is why I'm a retro gamer now. Long live the shoot-em-up era!

Einhander Is a game I discovered via emulation in the years 2000+ and never stopped playing it since today . Probably one of the 3 best shmup ever made. Top 5 game on ps1

When I got my ps3 I made a japanese psn account just to to get this game I think it cost 500 yen ($5.00 american). Still have my ps3 and still play Einhander on it to this day

Awesome game with an unique atmosphere. The graphics look even better upscaled so emulation is probably the better option;-)

By the way, your description of the Mk.II and Mk.III are inverted. Mk.II is the one with a single MG with the option to carry 3 gunpods, but it does have the drawback of only getting 1/3 ammo from gunpod pickups. Mk.III is the one with a twin MG and only carry 1 gunpod. It also has a special function where firing the gunpod will also fire the twin MG as well.

The hard section you talk about can be made alot easier by flying over the multiplier on your Hud and as low as possible. It is possible to sit there until you reach the submarine

R-type is one series that I have very little experience with. They are hard games, I only ever managed to get through a few levels of Super R-Type. Probably means I need to practice and get back to it!

@@theretrospectivegamer It’s really just repetitive play. I owned R-Type for the Turbo and Gaiares for the Genesis back when they came out. For me, those games are much easier than Thunder Force III, Axelay and other shooters that I play now. Yet, R-Type and Gaiares are considered much harder. So I think it’s just repetitive play (because as a kid and teenager, you played so so much more, you just naturally got good at them). I can go no death far into R-Type, Gaiares and all the Gradius games yet in old shooters that I play now (that i didn’t own back then), I struggle to beat stage 1 without dying.

I worked at K-Mart during a rebuild at the store. My co-worker said I can get you some games... 3 or more so which ones? I gave him a list of 5 but my top were: Tekken 3, Castlevania Symphony of the Night and Einhander. I got my top 3 for a 50 spot which I still have and play here in July 2021!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pretty nice video, man. Keep it up! I never really got into Einhänder's weapon system. Also I discovered it only after R-Type Delta was already released, which I liked a bit better.

People often mention Einhander as the PS1 counterpart of Radiant Silvergun, but now that you mention some people behind it were ALSO ex-Konami employees, it actually makes much more sense why Einhander came out this good. Treasure mainly consisted of ex-Konami guys too, so it's an ex-Konami vs ex-Konami matter, which makes the comparison much funnier. At the time Konami was one of the king of shmups. Also, I often see people say Einhander was Square Soft's first shmup, but no. There was King's Knight, 1986. They returned releasing one 11 years later with Einhander.

its difficult for shooters difficulty to feel fair, but einhander pulls it off. when you die you dont really get mad, you just want to try again.

I think that it's closer to just read it like in english. If you think of the sound "hawn" as with "o", that is definitely not correct

That’s incorrect. The Japanese name is アインハンダー which is pronounced EIN-HAN-DA.
