The colors are more cake-like/light, and the splatoon 2 ones are more strong, personally prefer the lighter colors (specially the orange, i hate the orange in splat 2)

I think something else to consider is the music, splatoon 1 and 2 had a similar but different style of music each contributing to the overall feel of the game, And depending on which one you like more can affect the feel of each game. But splatoon 3's trailer music sounded so good I think it's going to really knock it out of the park!

Tbh friend list is my favorite song in all of the spaltoon games but my favorite part is the part right before this when thw intensity keeps rising and rising... Sorry for my wording I'm not a complete song geek.

If I had to rate ingame bands from multiplayers these two and Squid Squad would probably be in the top three. Really says a lot about the memorability and quality of 1's soundtrack

“Kusoge” is a term mostly used in the FGC that refers to a game that is so broken that the busted aspects aren’t something you try to avoid or shove under the hood, it’s something to be exploited and is a key part of the way you play it. Not necessarily glitchy (though that sure helps), more questionably balanced with lots of oversights from the developers. Like, “the characters get worse the LESS broken they are.”I don’t think I have to say why that’s relevant here.

It's just my opinion, but I like Splatoon 1 better as a game than Splatoon 2. You have broken stuff like Kraken and Bubbler, but you also have stuff like Quick Respawn to compensate for deaths meaning that those super powerful specials aren't as powerful as if they could be if were ported directly to 2. And since QR is so powerful, you don't see people running around with the also busted Attack Up or Defense Up, as they'd rather run QR and Stealth Jump which makes individual deaths less impactful, and the only weapons being run are weapons that don't abuse Attack to be good, whereas in 2 everyone is running MP on weapons that treat it like Damage Up and death is a lot more unforgiving because of a lack of QR. And the map design of 1 is far better than 2, for some reason they really liked forcing everyone to mid in 2, making death much more common due to a lack of options of approach. It's also much harder to spam specials in 1 because they generally cost more points than in 2 and you lose more points for dying than in 2 because of the weight system (generally), on top of the fact you are dying all the time meaning you are constantly losing special points. And there are no mediocre specials in 1, whereas 2 has quite a few mediocre specials like Splashdown or the Bomb Launchers, which while stronger than the Bomb Rush of 1, is generally much weaker in comparison to your other options available, like Tenta Missiles, not at all comparable to something like Echolocator which is literally just Tenta Missiles but without the Missiles part, which is still considered pretty good in 1, or Stringray which is arguably even stronger than Killer Wail. Splatoon 2 has just as much wrong with it from a balance perspective, but the lows are even lower while the highs haven't moved all that much. Bad map design, special spam, absurdly strong specials with no counterplay, still has useless weapons, etc. The only difference is that individual play is more important in 1, whereas you need your team to push effectively in 2 if you want any chance of winning, team fights are king. That isn't a criticism by the way, neither solo or team gameplay styles are better than the other, they both have their good parts and flaws, and there are plenty of games over the years that have used either style effectively to make good games. I just think Splatoon 1 did "solo play" _better_ than Splatoon 2 did "team play" because team play is also a part of 1 and is still important to some degree, whereas you can't really do much solo in 2 because of the way the meta influences how people play the game. This is a really long rant, but I've just had this feeling that I didn't enjoy 2 as much as I enjoyed 1, and that shows in that I still occasionally return to 1 every once in a while, whereas I haven't really touched 2 since about 3 months after the Final Fest. I'm really looking forward to the release of Splatoon 3, I'm hoping that they've learned a lot of things from both 1 and 2 and will make a game to far surpass both.

something about this game seems faster. i don’t mean quick spawn, i mean the overall movement and animations seem more fast paced. i’ve never played it though so i could be wrong, i’m just basing this off of all the gameplay i’ve seen of it. (i do very much appreciate the QoL improvements in 2 though, being able to see which teammates are alive and who has specials is so crucial and makes the game feel more fair)

I only got to play Splatoon 1 once, and seeing this video honestly makes me sad because the maps and non-shooters just seem soooooo much better than Splatoon 2. And those are my two favorite parts of the game. I missed out :( hopefully splat 3 can make up for it

I would legitimately go back to S1 if it wasn't for Salmon Run. What hooked me about Splatoon was how instant and perfect movement felt, the wall climbing/clinging/jumping, and how the open-ness and verticality of the stages gave so many options (like you could play a whole match and not fight anyone if you so chose). S2 felt clunky/laggy, walls were suddenly WAY less common/important in comparison, and weapon variety was less. I mean it had problems (hackers, invincibility specials) but the FEEL was just SO GOOD. I think Octo Expansion and Salmon Run "justify" S2 a bit but yeah...it isn't the same. I hate the maps, I hate the laggy feel, the weird RNG choices, and the kind-of-boring and team-reliant specials... But that's just me and I know many feel differently, and that's fine. Hope they manage S3 better. And that Salmon Run returns.

burst bomb on bambi was ridiculous. you can sort do the same thing with fizzy bomba on the Mk III in S2 but it's nowhere near as effective since the uncharges fizzy deals less damage and has a smaller blast. bubble blower feels next-to-useless on the weapon, though, compared with torpedo+bubbles weapons, especially when MPU came out and they decided to make bamboozler even more ink hungry). i want my splash walls back.

I recently found a pre-owned copy of Splatoon 1 at my local game shop for $8 - I snapped it up immediately lol, it was the last Wii U game there. I don't have a Wii U, but if I ever wanna play Splat1 for whatever reason (which, trust me, I do, it looks fun and chaotic as hell) then that one was probably the cheapest copy I'd ever find. Now it's time to hunt down a Wii U or borrow my mate's hahah.

the online is still active, but matches take ages to start and the matches are laggier and disconnects are even worse than Splatoon 2 (because of the sparse player counts).

I love this Splatoon more than any of them cuz all the weapons have a different play style, and how the item upgrades help with that play style. With Splatoon 3 it's just grind for the best weapon.
