I love the Captain’s playing!! I love Pete’s too, but the captain has got a certain touch and tone that is just so underrated I think. Pete is just the beast and when I grow up I want to have some of his style! Two wonderful players and a really great video and Epi is finally getting some love from Gibson now! They have some wonderful stuff out right now!! Keep up the great content!!

I bought one of these "Lemonburst / Honeyburst" '59 Epiphone Les Pauls from you guys back in December. Absolutely amazing guitar. I can't stop playing it - feels so good, sounds so good and looks so good. Over the years I have owned countless Les Pauls (all Gibson) starting with a 1972 LP DeLuxe I bought back in 1975. This is the first Chinese built guitar I have ever bought / played that really does do it for me. Absolutely love it. Thanks so much guys. Now, what I REALLY would like would be a 3PU Les Paul Custom from Epiphone with the American PUs, CTS pots etc. and, ideally, the Jimmy Page wiring allowing any combination of the 3 PUs, split could and phase switch.

Hotter doesn't mean louder, I wind 7.5k pickups that are super snappy and loud but fall apart with aton of gain, there to bright for metal or heavy music. More winds/ output darkens the pickups and makes them more useable at higher gain. I find 8.5k is the perfect resistance to do both. Brilliant cleans and warm overdrive.

I have the Lazarus and I've already made cosmetic changes to it, so it looks kinda like Greeny's. Flipped the neck pickup and changed over the knobs. Plus I found some proper vintage-type pickup rings that make it look like a proper 59. But now, I might pick one of these up and make the same changes and revert the Lazarus to stock. (except for the pickup rings of course 😄.

I recently acquired a set of Seymour Duncan 59‘s, but the magnets were swapped out for A2s. The Les Paul is the standard 50s Epiphone, and I would be willing to put mine up against one of those. I have played the 59 that was done in collaboration with the custom shop, and it’s great. But I do believe these Seymour Duncan‘s have placed me level with that, if not slightly ahead. Plus I like the flame top better on mine. All in all, these are all phenomenal guitars for any money.

What comes across is the care and attention to detail that the epiphone brand is getting. Lets face it it doesn't get more epic than Epiphone. Gibson and Epiphone aren't just brands they're icons. The fact the Les Paul is still hear and hasn't changed a design that's stood the test of time that's held in such a high regard of our idols its no surprise they are such coveted guitars.

Good choice with the Epi Frampton. A buddy of mine has a dozen or so LP style guitars. These include Hohner L59s, Epiphones (incl. '59, Tommy Thayer & Custom) & Gibsons (incl. Tribute, Standards & R8). I was fortunate enough to be able to do my own 'blindfold challenge' with them. Two categories: 1) Neck shape & 2) Clean Tone. The Epi Frampton was the winner for me!

@@stephenharrison7514 not true at all. I've had a number of Gibsons, including Les Pauls, Firebird etc, as well as Japanese Fenders, Yamaha SG, Gretsch etc. The Epiphones that I currently have (eight Les Pauls and a BB King Lucille) are handpicked and excellent. Some have Gibson pickups factory fitted I'm not saying that Gibsons aren't good and possibly better... but they're just not four times the price better. Don't forget that I'm 4,000 miles away and the signal has to travel through a satellite and KZbins compressors and then up to a further satellite (for US distribution) and then down fibre optics to my house where it goes through a computer line to a WiFi etc., I thought the Epi was slightly thinner sounding, less complex sound than the 58. Less complex tends to reduce room filling sound even if it's louder (all else being the same). When I got my custom shop '61 Les Paul SG I was convinced it was the loudest guitar (or most powerful) I owned; it wasn't, the 81 Les Paul Custom (boat anchor) was actually louder but the '61 was just more beautiful, more room filling, yet it still had that "bark" when you wanted it to. Best, Pete.

There is quite a bit of variance in the output range of Burstbucker 2 and 3. I have seen Burstbucker 3 as high as 9k and a bunch that are 8.6k/8.7k and I have seen many BB3 8.2k/8.3k and some 8.4k/8.5k. The custombuckers seem more consistent in output and I have also noticed that BB3s from the last couple of years to be lower in output and more consistent. Most of them from the last couple of years have been between 8.2k and 8.4k with the high 8.6k and higher BB3 becoming more rare. Accodimg the the head of product development at gibsom at gibsom they have really been concentrating on the pickup shop trying to up their game in that department. They purchased a building next store to the Gibson factory and turned it into their pickups shop they used to wind the pickups right in the main factory but now they have a separate building Just for pickup production and they hired a new manager for the pickup shop who apparently had substantial experience with pickup winding and production . There are also apparently going to start winding a wider variety of custom shop level pickups . The custombuckers will still be their main custom shop pickups but they are going to start doing limited runs of paf replicas of varying spec with will in some cases be more vintage correct in terms of detail and material that would not be possible on a larger regular production scale. They will most likely be used on limited run guitars and as part of made to measure.

The neck carve on the Epi '59 is more "D" shaped IIRC. I much prefer the Gibson "C" shape in direct comparison but it wouldn't be a deal breaker. A used Epi '59 will probably be the absolute 'best bang for the buck LP' in due course. However, amazing used deals are likely the wiser buy right now. I recently purchased a minty 2016 Gibson LP HP Studio in Vintage Sunburst for the same money. It sounds huge, has 'that tone' and has rapidly become my current fave guitar...

@@JonnyBoss83 This also has the 2-piece body as opposed to the multi-piece body with a veneer on the back, if that matters to someone. Overall, I agree that the '59 is a better value.

Do it!!! I have a 2019 Gibson Original 60’s LP and I LOVE it….just recently got an Epi ‘59 Darkburst and I love it just as much. So inspiring to play, different league than the usual Epiphone. Night and day. And cheap for what you get!!

Trust me, you are not missing out on anything with these Epiphone Les Paul guitars unless you want the p90 special or the double cut Jr. Or mini humbuckers one. You don't have an Explorer do you !? You should get one of those new Epiphone Explorer in korina or green !? Trust me you can do way better for that $899 ! Hamer has a double cut flame top with tremolo and humbuckers for $549-$799 and it's going to have perfect fret work unlike most of the new, rushed out because of covid back order Epiphone Les Paul with bad high frets ! Just saying fun experience with the new Epiphone guitars . I had to send the Epiphone Les Paul TV special back and get a better one because of bad fret work. The second I got was better but the frets are still so so low I cant do but 1 tiny little level because there's no fret left. The Epiphone prophecy guitars are way way better but $899 but that explorer has ebony fret board and is perfect and worth it ! The Jared James old glory I got was really good and decent fret work and tall frets but was so heavy 13+ pounds (7kilo) but we really good guitar just couldn't stand it 😜 on my back ! I also ordered a Les Paul Gold top traditional pro that was freaking amazing and perfect in every way but has a broken Headstock 😭 so sad because that guitar was perfect and cheaper than all the rest but Sam Ash didn't want to replace it with a new one because the one I got was on sale $289 and I was crushed they would not send me another guitar after buying 2 other Epiphone Les Paul guitars (TV yellow special and jjn old glory) so they refunded me and I got a Hamer copy Explorer and then The flying V and they are my 2 best guitars and blow the GIBSON Les Paul trad, SG standard cherry burst and all the other Gibson Jr. Guitars I've got ! You could find a Hamer Les Paul flame top double cut or Jr with p90's that put Gibson to shame !

Stepping up there game? They have just gone back to the old days when Epiphone was top quality and kicked Gibsons Ass...Les Paul tried to get Henry to return Epiphone to its glory days and Henry refused..now we have a new owner who has done what Les Paul always wanted for Epiphone..let's not forget that les paul invented his solid body guitar the Log in the Epiphone factory in 1941 Ten years before Gibson got involved and he never left Epiphone and he saved Epiphone..Les Paul was with Epiphone from 1940 until his death in 2009..

Many people have found super flammey tops underneath the gold paint on 1952 to 1958 les pau gold tops when people did conversion jobs to turn their gold tops into into sunburst les Paul's. And had the pickup cavities expanded to fit humbuckers .

That seems to be their most common downfall from the ones I see around lately, bad fret work. Most are ok with a little break in or polishing but I've played A number of them with high frets from the factory or bad intonation because of the drilling into the top for the bridge. If they get their QC up a few notches they will really have something

The bridge pickup on the epihone 59 is further away from the bridge compared to the bridge pickup on the Gibson which gives the Gibson bridge pickup more clarity and bite . Also custombuckers have more upper mids .

Burstbuckers 2 and 3 are supposed to be hotter then custombuckers but I have 3 epi 59s and I put custombuckers in one of them and the custombuckers sound more aggressive and people need to keep in mind the DC resistance does not always tell you how aggressive or mellow a pickup might sound. The winding patterns of the coils are where the tone of the pickups come from . A lighter wound pickup can sound more aggressive then a hotter wound pickup if the pickup has a different EQ curve . Also the EQ curve of the guitar itself plays a big role in how mellow or aggressive a pickup sounds . The custombuckers I have in the epi 59 came out of An R8 les paul and they sounded very bright in that guitar but they were quite mellow in output but in the epi 59 they sound alot hotter then they did in the 58 RI .. DC resistance on PAFs does not always tell the story. Custombuckers also have a weaker magnet then BBs. A3 is actually weaker then A2 but despite this and being wound lower on DC resistance they often sound hotter then BBs even the hotter wound BB3 and 3. A guitar that has alot of mids naturally especially upper mids can make a low wind pickup sound much hotter then it actually is . The original Custombuckers was the Jimmy Page custom Burstbucker and many people reported that the Bridge Pickup was seemed quite hot but were shocked to find out the Page custombucker only measured between 8k and 8.2k . Those pickups had a unique winding pattern that made them sound hot .

Tried 4 1959 Epiphones today, 3 sounded pretty good, almost great, and one sounded ABSOLUTELY great, but there are several reasons I didn't buy it. All had frets that needed polished, none of them were setup well and the one that sounded terrific was damaged from the factory (looked like dropped) or at the Guitar Shop and the nut needed re-cut for the E-string and a knob was missing. Unfortunately, that was the one that I would want to buy. The "So What" is I wouldn't if you plan on buying one I would play in person and factor in a setup, fret polish, and/or level. The tone/sound was consistent across 3 with 1 being a jewel on my first run at playing these. I'll keep hunting for one, but I'm not as excited as I was previously. I wish the frets were taller, and stainless, but that wouldn't be period correct.

The two additional ones are Honey Burst ( otherwise known as ‘Somebody. screwed up Burst) and Southern Fade Burst. There best colors are the Lemon Burst and the Southern Fade Burst then after about 20 applications of Carnauba wax. They look fantastic.
