Thank you to Nick Parnell Percussion Academy (nickparnell.com/marimbahire) for lending us one of these Adam Solist Junior 30s! I think this is the absolute cheapest marimba I've ever reviewed on the show, and it's also the first Adams instrument to appear on the show! Let me know what you think of the $1,700 marimba in the comments below :) Thanks for watching! #TheStudioFamily

I had this one and i didn't even know it was the cheapest you could get. I have had it for over one year, and it has held up perfectly. It is good for beginners, and it is incredibly sturdy.

This instrument is actually perfect for professional jazz vibraphonists who want to double on marimba. In most jazz clubs, there just isn't room for a 4.3 or 5 octave instrument...particularly with vibes already on stage.
@SaltineCracker5 жыл бұрын
I have the 4.3 version of this marimba. It served me well in high school. I think it's a great instrument for any young percussionist looking for their first real instrument! It is now time to upgrade now that I am in University. I do recommend people at least look into this instrument for a student. Great work on the video Adam! Keep it up!

I own an Adams 4.3 octave concert series padouk marimba. It's fantastic and cost less than $3,000. The Concert Series has standard size bars , whereas the Soloist series bars are smaller. A major problem with marimbas is that they are just too expensive for most people. And you can buy a professional drum set for a 10th the price of a Rosewood marimba. Is it any wonder that most students stop playing marimba and just go with drums? Adams should have 3, 4.3 and 5 octave models in their padouk concert series with conversion kits to increase the size as a student progresses, which would even further lower the cost. (They have these kits for their professional marimbas to change 4.3 to 5 octave) Padouk marimbas should be rebranded, especially since Honduran Rosewood is an endangered species. They're no more "practice" instruments than my Toyota is a practice car until I can afford a Lexus. I know that Padouk doesn't sound exactly like Rosewood, but Placido Domingo doesn't sound exactly like Luciano Pavarotti did, and no one tells him to only practice in the shower instead of performing on stage. Instead of that pejorative term, they should be classified like other instruments; student (3 octave), intermediate (4.3 & 5 octave), and professional (With the concert series you can replace the bars with Rosewood). I'd like to see you review the Adams concert 4.3 octave padouk marimba. I think it is much better than the Yamaha you evaluated. Wouldn't it have been great if Adams had a 5 octave padouk marimba that you could have owned in college instead of having to compete for practice time on the school's marimbas? I really enjoy your vlog. Keep up the good work!

Also for a bit more money there is the concert version of Adam's marimbas. You can still get them cheap and the only difference is they have wider bars. The wider bars will help you because the nice marimbas you will play on for audition will have wider bars

Hello Adam, I was wondering if give your thoughts on the newer electric keyboards that are starting to pop up, In particular the Pearl Malletstation midi controller? In case you’re not familiar with it, it’s basically a midi keyboard designed after a marimba/vibe it has adjustable octaves and can play a multitude of sounds. My main question is, do you think it’s worth it to buy a malletstation keyboard or should I save up for a real marimba. I wanted to hear your thoughts an opinions before I made any solid decisions of my own. Thanks for your time I love your stuff!

Hey Adam, I'm a beginner percussionist and I've never really played other instruments before. How can I become better at rhythm and sight reading rhythm? Can you possibly make a video on that?
@zachsnow10615 жыл бұрын
For me, the best way to improve at sight reading was to just do it a lot. If your band director has any etude books or anything, just try reading through a few etudes each day. Hope this helps!
@AdamTanPercussion5 жыл бұрын
Electronic Redeemer Zach has the right idea! Just trying it a lot will get you more used to it, I always read a lot of piano music since I was young which made it easier for me 😁
