The WWE model wouldn’t work boss. There’s 13 PPVs a year with planned concepts and outcomes all mapped to said schedule. Eg Wrestlemania will get xyz fight bc you can literally control and manipulate outcomes. That’s the point it’s programmatic TV. That’s not his real fighting works. Not to mention it would fluctuate how the ufc probably does ppv vs fight night cards. There were 43 total events in 2023 mind you

Yeah and the wrestlers aren’t paid criminally low. Unlike in the UFC. I think prelim fighters 12k to show and 12 if they win for a 24k if they win. If they’re lucky and get 3 fights a year AND WIN that’s 72k on top of camp costs hospital bills also idk if the ufc pays for travel and room. Apparently the lowest salary for wwe wrestlers is like 250k. I get they do a lot of travel and more “matches” a lot of house shows whatever. Still. WWE has shown you don’t need to exploit your rooster.

@@tazzthedoodle7861 and giving fighters 18% of revenue is trash. The UFC is a multi billion dollar company like other big sports. NHL, NBA, MLB, NFL split revenue 50/50. I was starting to wince 2 years ago with the ever increasing price, and last year when it hit 74.99 I swore it would be the last ones I watched if it went up again. Now, at 79.99, I AM done. I have a six figure income, and even I have hit the wall and refuse to purchase at this price. It's ridiculous. I'll watch the FREE fight nights, and I DO have the UFC app that I pay for, so going forward, I'll skip the LIVE PPVs and simply watch later on when it comes up free. This much greed is ridiculous.

Very interesting perspective. The UFC brass have clearly lost touch. I am a former depressed self-deletion PTSD war vet who crawled my way out of the darkness to become an 8-figure tech strategist, and even I think $80 per PPV is a ridiculous price and antiquated business model in the age of subscription streaming. The UFC brass have short-sighted thinking by engaging in the Lamborghini dealership-type business model, which is a very ineffective entertainment business strategy if they truly want to become one of the major sports of the world. They should be easily accessible to the masses just like all the other major multi-billion dollar sports are globally by charging networks rather than their fans via the old school PPV business model.

I really like the points you guys made regarding when you increase the accessibility of events like fights by having them on netflix or even lets say cable tv the sponsorship dollars are going to increase exponentially. This is one of the biggest problems with the ufc and pay per view model is that it relies on the consumer to purchase it for the fighters to get paid more. Its kind of like the tipping model in american restaurants where the staffs wages and style of life fall on the customer rather than the restaurant who should be paying them to live comfortably in the first place. Just increase the accessibility to these events by having them on netflix or cable tv, viewership and general public interest will rise and the sponsorship dollars will get huge, and then you can pay the fighters more. Easy fix. And then youre solving the issue of illegal streams too

The UFC has a broadcasting agreement with discovery+ here in the Netherlands. We can watch all PPV and FN main cards for 6 euros a month which is equivalant to just under 78 dollars per year. How do you americans pay $80 PPV, $10 Fight Pass and $11 ESPN deal for around 1,5k per year? I would personally stop being a UFC fan if it would cost me more than 15 euros per month. It’s been well documented that companies are planning on the future to completely switch to online media. It’s a larger market and has that ability to be accessed anywhere, anytime, seamlessly. The proposition mentioned in the video would not only give people access to lower cost PPV, but it will also influence people to access all of their other sports that are accessible through the ESPN app. It could completely change the game for the UFC and make them even bigger/scarier than they are now.

I feel their best monetisation strategy (once they're done growing) will be to sell PPVs through their own app (for $60/$70/$80/whatever they calculate earns the most) and then have both their current fight pass and an upgraded tier of fight pass that includes PPVs for, say, the basic price + half the cost of a PPV. That lets them bundle PPVs to fans because fans will watch a lot more average cards when they have to cancel or downgrade a subscription as opposed to just not buying it. Yes, you're charging "half price" on PPVs but you're selling them a bunch of PPVs you wouldn't otherwise and it's "half price" on top of the basic fight pass price (which would get a lot more subscribers). And for the occasional viewers (who'd never be interested in fight pass), they still get their "full" PPV price.

They could go to a streaming model but then have 4 x $100 PPVs a year, where they are monster cards and the whole card is pretty much on PPV. Being on Netflix etc opens up the global audience further, then you capitalise on these additional fans by having 4 monster PPVs where you try to get huge PPV numbers exploiting the casual fan base generated with the mega stars.

When I started watching MMA again after watching a bit when I was younger, I was surprised at how expensive the PPVs were. I'm a wrestling fan so I'm used to how the WWE network and other similar services work where you pay the price for the platform and you get all of the PPVs along with that subscription. I could never justify paying $80 on top of a subscription fee to watch the PPVs. It's way too expensive for what they are offering. If they moved to a model like the one WWE does, I would probably watch every PPV. I think they could get Netflix to give them a look especially now that they have WWE. Netflix definitely needs the subscribers.

We have no idea if this would be beneficial, as in cheaper, for the fans, but it wouldn't be complicated to come up with a pay structure. Pay them based on views. Essentially the same thing. And if there are people who are stopping and starting their subscription, it would be mostly safe to assume that that's correlated with the ppv card, and that could be either a secondary or the primary determining factor in the fighter pay. Depending on how common that starting and stopping ended up being.
