My 2021 RDX ASpec SH-AWD had no mechanical issues. Averaged 10-12 litres per 100kms here Canada (19-24mpg) with 80% of my daily driving being highway. Owned a 2018 TLX ASpec 3.5 V6 SH-AWD prior to the RDX which was very reliable and much more fuel efficient than the RDX.. easily got between 21-30mpg.

Funny enough, Acura just gave the RDX a secondary refresh. If they were going to extend the life cycle of the RDX, they may as well just added the turbo V6 to the car's trim level. I just hope they don't plan on milking the CUV's life cycle like Mazda is with the CX-5 for 10 years and what Toyota did with its pickup trucks and SUVs of their last generation for almost 15 years and what Dodge did with the LX platform Charger and Challenger twins for that same lengthy amount of time.

A key sign of a brand in trouble is when they demonstrate they can’t compete with their competitors within the market in which they sell their vehicles and have to switch to an “all-this” sales strategy like Infiniti & Lincoln. When it was the TL, it was one of the best selling luxury sport sedans in its segment for many years. Lexus, BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz…they all still seem to do very well with making a large selection of SUVs placed at every conceivable price point and size, as well as multiple sedans and coupes that do well, too. First the Vigor, Legend, CL, TL, RL, TSX, ILX, RSX, RLX, NSX… not everyone wants a SUV.

TLX was a hard buy back with the last gen Accord 2.0t engines before those got axed by Honda just watch all the drag races between the two cousins. Now that the Accord is mostly hybrid, TLX is still struggling to take those who wants the detuned type r engine plus their shawd. It also became too expensive now that even their base Tech TLX is now selling at $47K when you can buy their cheapest base shawd at or under $40K couple years back. Yes, inflation and all but this makes it a really hard car to sell when you have better choices out there with price almost at Lexus and german brands. I had the 2021 Tech package Shawd TLX and it is a good driving car, smaller leg room in the back seats and really heavy for it’s size but it is damn sexy and pretty that it gets attention and compliments from everyone who sees it. I wonder how many people commenting have actually driven and lived with one of these gorgeous cars or are just writing out of ignorance? Yes, I wish Acura didn't have the production issues and it's unfortunate that they seem to be letting this model slip away. It is the most powerful sport sedan Acura has ever made and the nice thing about it, the thing is so stinking reliable and easily serviceable (check out Scotty Kilmer's video), and more than likely will achieve a much lower TCO than its German competitors, that I hope I can keep it for many, many years to come.

The TLX doesn't need to go to the discontinuation heavens. It just needs a +600lb diet. Seriously. For a car that weighs just as much as a CT5-V Blackwing and only has a single scroll turbo and not a twin turbo setup to make up for the power to weight ratio, that's where they're hurting at. You can change the infotainment setup, add a new exterior color, and new wheels all you want, but if you can't cut down on the curb weight of the car to make it a better performance car, then that $60,000 for a TLX Type S or whatever the price is could be spent on a CT4-V Blackwing with 112hp more and 90lb-ft of tq. Sure, those two cars are two different class sizes, but for what you're getting out of the 4-V BW: lighter weight, extra performance, and an overall better driver's car, why would sell yourself short of over a 100hp and almost 100lb-ft of tq?
@devoemewborn95412 ай бұрын
Since 1997 they refuse to meet the performance demands of the market. Back then everyone wanted a rwd V8 and Honda never gave us one and look how Lexus and the Germans left them behind. @@xzimxzim Okay, they do. But again, if those vehicles you cite that you wished had all wheel drive had it, then there would be no need for the Acura line, of which was specifically created and launched in 1986. It was Honda's desire to penetrate the North American mid size and maybe their large car market. It was not known how this new to the market size with the Legend, would do here under the Honda nameplate but it was suspected by Honda officials, the larger cars and upscale vehicles that the nameplate would not be accepted. So a new brand was launched under the newly created name "Acura." Just like General Motor had been attempting to separate the Chevrolet Truck brand from the GMC Truck brand, Honda did the same with Acura. Generally, GMC Trucks cost more than Chevy Trucks but generally come with more amenities standard, which means that if the consumer wants to control cost overruns due to budget and/or need, then Chevy Truck was the much better choice. If cost was less of a concern then the GMC can be the optional selected choice, and definitely my choice. Plymouth was the entry level choice fro Chrysler and Dodge, during the same period, was the more expensive. But make no mistake it: Chevrolet and Plymouth, the entry level divisions for their respective manufactures, were no slouches when it came to performances. Buick & Oldsmobile would constantly duke it out because they both served as mom & pop nameplates. When General Motors phased out Oldsmobile, it was because it completed too closely with Buick and Buick was a big name brand in China. Pontiac was phased out because it completed to close with Chevrolet in performance but cost more because they did provide more amenities. They had ascended to the higher level of premium performance. And they didn't have the Big Joker: The Chevrolet Corvette. General Motors wanted Cadillac to compete on a global level. They continually do so by competing with just about any big dog European and Asian manufacture. They are heavily involved in auto racing and it is rumored they may be entering the NASCAR circuit. All of the Chrysler & General Motors changes came about when the U.S. Government bailed them out of their filings for bankruptcy. They had to restructure in order to receive the bail out. Ford never filed for bankruptcy during the period; instead opting to fix their problem themselves. They dropped the Mercury brand. The Ford Motor Division of the Ford Motor Company began offering slightly upscale Fords to fill the loss of Mercury. All of this is said for this reason: It's all about marketing. If Honda of North American made the accessary of all wheel drive, then Acura would struggle even more to continue to exist. Also, the Integra being all drive would undercut the TLX. The idea is to give the Acura buyer an entry level to the brand and then continue to keep you in the brand by continuing to bring you through it as you age with it and hopefully, your income grows to afford the higher model within the lineup. All manufactures do this. Another example of this is Volkswagen to Audi with the option of adding Porsche. The consumer may not understand but the manufacture does. It's all about marketing. It's a balancing act. It's the stockholders that have the right away on the game board. Strategic moves have to made in order to keep the brand afloat, even if it is not as good as the previous model. And by the way, the 2nd Gen TLX has driver adjustable suspension dampening. The Accord does not. The vehicle would leave its design parameters and step into a higher level of competition. The consumer is always the pawn. But as the saying goes, if you build it, they will SUCCUMB. The consumer will buy out of the desire to have their own personnel transportation. That is where Acura, Cadillac, Audi, Lexus, Infiniti, and Lincoln come in. I kinda don't want to include Mercedes-Benz in this because they have had to offer lesser cost vehicles to offset the cost of their premium models and to help them with their CAFE standards. But their Maybach Division, when it was created, was meant to compete with Bentley and Rolls-Royce. We have choices. We just may not like the full choice of what is available...

I know they said at the time when Infiniti did it it was to make it easier to market the same vehicle in different international markets under the same name as they were trying to expand into markets they had previously not sold Infinitis at. Either way, I think it didn’t help overall… With Acura, I think they must’ve done some market research that probably suggested that people took luxury cars more seriously when they had names that were combinations of alpha numeric characters like Mercedes, Lexus, Audi, BMW. But instead of throwing away all the recognition and standing out, they should’ve KEPT those names. Now look at them. About to turn into the next Infiniti by going SUV-only because they can’t compete, meanwhile, Lexus, BMW, Audi, Mercedes all seem to be selling plenty of sedans and a few coupes, too along with their SUV line up.

I think you hit the nail onthe head - the TLX debuted as a bloated, marginally performing car that was cheaper than the competition but offered a lot less. The original TL Type S did the opposite. It offered the same or in some cases, better performance than the competition at a much lower price.

Acura needs to go back to basic design. The Front dash-to-axle ratio. That is Way too Long for a Front Wheel Drive layout and increases the turning radius while greatly reducing the interior space. It doesn't work for navigating large city traffic. Sedans are a lame design. TLX Should have been offered as a proper AWD Hatchback and also as an AWD Wagon with much Smaller Front dash-to-axle ratio.

So, back in 2021, when he saw the all-new 2021 TLX come out. He was so excited about it and went for a test drive. Then I told him, Let's check out Lexus since these two dealerships are just right next to each other. We tested the ES350, and he was very close to buying the ES. However, BA DA BING BA DA BOOM, next thing we know, we drove a 2021 RX350 F-Sport out of the Lexus dealer. And have never talked about Acura ever again.

I don't care if the Integra is roomier the TLX, there is no way, NOOO WAY I'D buy one over a TLX. I once owned a 1996 Integra LS SE Hatchback equipped with a 5 speed manual transmission. The car was a lots of fun to drive. But replacing it with a new 2003 CL Type S equipped with a 6 speed manual (it's still my daily driver) was a great decision! I did miss the Integra's ability to transport my bicycle to an area so that I could ride it in a park but other than that, it was a good grown up decision. Why? The CL has more leg room and is more grown up! I'm 62 years old & 6'-1" I need the room! I have a 2019 TLX A-SPEC SH-AWD and back in June, purchased a 2024 TLX A-SPEC SH-AWD. The Type-S was too hard to get, so I settled on the one and only new TLX on the lot. I don't like the 2025: they removed the finger mouse control pad and replaced it with another cubby hole. The center console LED is now a touch screen; something that will have finger prints on it all over it. So I'm happy with my 2024. I sensed that Acura may want to kill the TLX gas powered car and switch it to electric. If we are going to get close to seeing that gorgeous prototype that was made for the second generation TLX, the electric model, if it ever hits production, will probably look more like THAT prototype.

I love my RDX advanced. It is a great driving fun car with great reliability. It drives better than any hybrid. It is very comfortable with great seats and controls that make sense. The touchpad is a none issue if you use CarPlay. It could get better gas mileage and I was able to get over 30mpg on highway recently. It’s a great little suv. If you want more power get a bmw x3m40. You will pay a lot more. I drove pretty much everything out there. All fulll hybrids drive terrible. CRV was the best but still sluggish with awful seats. CX5 was pretty good with base engine but turbo was unrefined and once again seats were cardboard. If a 6.2 - 6.7 0-60 is too slow buy something else. Lexus hybrids drive like your grandmas car. The RDX is great suv to keep long term. I drove model 3 and I liked it better than any hybrid. Its controls were stupid and you have to use the stupid screen to open your glove box? To turn car on. No sunroof? No shade for glass top? Air conditioning was very weak and I wasn’t sure it would keep car cool on hot day. I would get an RDX over a Tesla or hybrid every time.

When the new TLX-S was announced, I followed it closely as I was itching to trade in my 2018 Q50RS (the most meh car in its segment) and the Type S was on my short list. But when I saw it in person and learned the spec's, I crossed it off my list with a sigh of disappointment. It wasn't so much the down-on-power 3.0t as it was the packaging and the curb weight. The long hood and short rear deck promise RWD performance bias, but this is a FWD chassis with a transverse V6 and it still hangs far too much weight over the front axle. The long hood is just for aesthetics, sadly. The back seat isn't roomy enough for a sedan. And that 2.1 ton curb weight...it's the heaviest and consequiently, thirstiest car in its class. The giant quad exhaust tips are also more of an aesthetic, and look like a joke considering the relatively low performance on tap. Looks are subjective, and I know most people seem to think it's a great looking car. But to my eyes, it looks far too contrived...but that may be because I know it's writing checks it can't cash with M3 looks but 330i performance. I think most people who shop for cars like this are at least somewhat educated on how the various offerings stack up, and likely arrive at the same conclusion I did, which is that it doesn't measure up compared to the competition. It's sad that Acura are discontinuing their lone midsize "performance" sedan, but not as sad as the fact that they missed the target so badly in the first place.

I get jealous every time I see someone with a Volvo wagon because of the maximized utility of a hitch, roof cargo box and still tons of interior space while not being that much taller than a basic crossover with nothing on the roof so you can still fit in almost any indoor garage (if it fits a pick up truck, it can fit a sedan/wagon with a box on top).
