Nice of you to visit and drop a brief mid-season anime recap. Holy cow, it's been so long that I almost forgot there was a cliffhanger! It's weird but it sounds like Energica was a victim of their success. They made one thing really well, until someone told them "make more of them, we'll help you pay for it" then that someone ran out of money and Energica ended up over extended. I think back when you first compared them to Zero, it felt like they were a very small "family" oriented brand compared to the faceless corporation, where they probably were better off staying small, making bespoke "two-wheeled electric Ferraris" for the people who'd stand up and say "I want one" like you, while the masses were content to buy the safe, mass produced, commuter bikes. But it's products like Energica that people want to keep alive long after the company goes away, like people who still make new physical games for the Sega Genesis or the Dreamcast, even now.
@NewZeroland2 ай бұрын
Yes!! Wow, soooo well said. You're totally right. I'm not sure if they could have stayed alive as a small company, but branching out definitely helped kill them. The same happened with Mission. I like how niche and special these bikes are. I know it's not the most responsible or reliable choice, but life is short. We should have motorcycles that excite us!
@RPRosen-ki2fk2 ай бұрын
Yes, bad business took them down, NOT bad product, it happened to Alta also. I'll even argue Lightning TOO, but in that case it's hard to feel bad because of the source of the "bad business". I'm heartbroken when something good flounders ... while soulless crap companies thrive.

+1 on the excellent customer service and support from Energica. Hope they find a way to live on as they created incredibly great bikes. I am grateful for the opportunity to be an Enérgica owner and will continue to ride my Ribelle for as long as I can as I don’t think there’s a better bike out there for me. I’m also grateful for the wonderful videos this channel has created over the years and looking forward to watching many more. ⚡️❤

I'm not a biker or EV owner, I only found your channel because I've always wanted a Honda Beat (I love the project BTW). ...But I could see Energica was a great company driven by passion for what they made in the same tradition as Ferrari and Lamborghini years ago. What sad news, I hope they can be saved.

Hi @chris, as I wrote you yesterday I'm buying a Zero and putting all that stuff to let It become an adv bike. I love to go off-road on that ....I've seen your videos about the bad experience you had. What would you suggest? To buy or not to buy? I really like it but I don't want a bad quality product......Honda gives you 6 years warranty over used bikes here in Italy. I have a Honda CB500X from 2014 (crossover). I really love the feeling of electric bike, I like the idea to go off-road with the same Italian license without any stupid and expensive license upgrades for bikes that costs more, weights more ecc....But I'm worried about the range and the possibility to go in two with my girlfriend as a passenger. With the same amount of money I could Buy a used 2023 Africa Twin! But if I look to maintenance and fuel, (it costs 1,61 euro per liter), I could save more than 9000 euros in 100k km! At the same time I don't want to be in trouble with the engine little chip problem (huge problem) that you had. I'm not a technician, I'm a family doctor and I absolutely don't know how to put my hands on that bike😯🥺What do you suggest? My choice should be a Zero DSR 2021 with 14,4 kW + power tank 3,6 kW, no charge tank due to the lack of space but with the possibility to buy 700euros of quick charger (not quick at all, only 4kw /h, but at the end of the day I could buy the bike and then that accessory in case of long travels....). Looking at your 6years experience, what do you suggest about? It could be my first electric bike ever. The other choice I have with the same amount of money is: to buy a 7000euros used fuel adv bike + an electric used funbike at 6000 euros as Zero FXE or similar....In order not to risk with this "all in" choice. Hope you can help me. Woah you the best. Best regards from Italy, where electric bikes are seems as aliens....Tommy!
@NewZeroland2 ай бұрын
@@Tom1Sobrero-pr3ml hey Tommy, a used ADV gas bike + a used FXE for commuting and having fun is the best idea. You don't want to travel on a Zero. Great to see you back briefly Sam. I was sincerely hoping to someday become an Experia owner, having been a sportsbike owner since the late 90's. It was terribly depressing to hear the news about Energica, I think we all had great hopes for this company. As they were behind the Electric side of Moto E in Moto GP I felt that they were almost guaranteed a great future. Surely some enterprising company will look at the cutting edge technologies (especially fast charging) implemented by Energica and realise that it is a total no-brainer to rescue and sustain this manufacturer. I know there are reasons why we can't have nice things, but could we not just make one exception in this case????
@NewZeroland2 ай бұрын
I agree 100%. This company NEEDS to be saved. It would be cool if another motorcycle company wanted an electric branch without having to go through the time and effort of R&D.. just buy Energica and slap their name on the bikes! Restyle them a bit.. done. And then we'd also have a wider dealer network for support. I really hope something like that happens.

Great to see you back Sam! I was bummed to hear about Energica going under too. I seriously considered getting an Ego in '22. The main thing holding me back at the time was the weight. And then when I saw that Energica basically gave away controlling interest in the company to Ideanomics for just a few million $ - I suspected they were desperate for cash and might not be around in 5 years. That helped me make my decision to get a Panigale instead. My hope is the best Energica engineers find a place at Ducati and help bring a street version of the V21L to market sooner rather than later!

I'm still considering buying Energica Ego +. Either the company resurfaces or not - which means much lower price, but higher risk when in need of spare parts, or pretty much business as usual. The reason I'm considering Ego is simple: of all the electric bikes I've seen it's the coolest one, motorcycle first and electric second. It has all this great Italian design that makes any other electric bike look like a badly designed plastic toy. Then there's the whole approach to the bike owners. I very much prefer to support a company that is good to its customers, that is helpful and really passionate about all it's doing rather than a big corps that cares about you signing the deal and then already working on the ways to make sure they can squeeze more money from you. And finally: Ego is not cheap, but when you look at the components and the performance it's not really THAT expensive. If you want a solid performance you have to pay a fair price, anyway.
@NewZeroland2 ай бұрын
Yep! Well said. You get what you pay for. These are the highest quality electric motorcycles you can get. I'm sad they weren't as popular and they should have been. Most bikers still hate electric, but it's only because they've never ridden one.

@@NewZeroland thanks! TO be fair, I was very skeptical first but Energica was one of the reasons I changed my mind. Simply put, first models I've seen were not very impressive, and very expensive. Energica is different. Also, it's crazy how many people are against electric motorcycle just because. I've seen people who claimed to be motorcycle enthusiast being very happy when they've got the news about the bankruptcy. This is just childish behaviour.

I was mid-way through a purchase when the announcement came through. After all the eicma nee models I think despite the current status of the company I’m going to go through with it anyhow. There is nothing, absolutely nothing that is close on performance and quality. Here’s hoping the company can phoenix through this, most so we can still see Sams cheery attitude again.

Good to hear from you even though not under the best circumstances. The Zero saga took a turn for the worse, they put the new battery in, I got 55km started charging it came back an hour later and it was dead. Now Zero is refusing to fix anything related to their faulty battery replacement so I dumped several thousand into a paperweight. At least the Energica for now has not died on me more than twice and it seems fine for the time being. It needs a firmware update that the one dealership in the area refused to do because it might brick the bike, I reached out to Energica after I found out that that dealer stopped offering Energicas and supporting them. They said they were looking for a new dealer to work with in the area and now I can see that's not going to happen after they stopped responding to me after two emails a few months ago. At least since I completely redid the Corbin seat myself it's a bit lower and doesn't absorb 6 liters of water every time it sprinkles. So yeah I'm kinda thinking I'm going to possibly have to take a break from the EV motorcycles since they're all too unreliable with no support and I don't hack and program well enough to fix them. I was really hoping the big Japanese manufacturers were going to come out with something good and they've officially promised 125cc competitors since that's all that they see commercially viable. Still hoping that one day they'll offer something I like as much as the '17+ Zero SR with DC fast charging (with an infrastructure to go with it too) and is at least 25% as reliable as my ICE bikes.
@NewZeroland2 ай бұрын
Aw maaaan, that's so sad to hear, but I understand. After 8+ years riding electrics, I still feel like an early adopter. Charging infrastructure issues, random electrical gremlins and faults, and encounters with petrolheads who STILL hate electrics even thought they STILL haven't ridden one. It's frustrating, and I feel like this might be as good as we'll get for a long time.

I would have bought an Energica Eva Ribelle, but it was too loud. So I got a Zero SR/F. Sad to hear, that Energica is gone. They were one of three or four serious electric Bike Companies (Zero, Energica, Verge, Livewire). Energica had many plus points (range, DC Charging, insane power), but the noise was a no go criteria for me.
@NewZeroland2 ай бұрын
@@davidz1264 Haha I understand. Lots of people weren't into the reduction gearbox sound. I hope Zero offers DC charging someday, but without this competition anymore, I don't know if they will.
@davidz12642 ай бұрын
@@NewZeroland Yeah, that's my concern also. Zero is very stubborn to offer DC charging. Ok, they have to redesign the complete electric (battery, motor, high voltage electronics), to support DC charging. Tough job, but it has to be done. It's the second year in a row, that they do almost no changes to their flagship bikes (2024/2025). Either they work on a big thing, or they laying low, because there is almost no competition. Fun fact: The "sound" problem is the same with the Livewire One. They build their gear box specifically to make noise. I don't get it.

I wanted an Energica so, so very bad. Only thing stopping me was proximity to a dealer for service. I just wasn't able to stomach having to send the bike 8 hours away if it had issues with the high voltage system. I could do all the other work myself. I have a SR/F today, and I laughed out loud when you said some of these bikes are designed by computer programmers. That is almost exactly how it feels. Its a great bike for what it is. I love it when it works. But I wanted something that would be on the edge of scary. My only hope now is that Livewire revises the One and makes it faster. Or hold my breath for Ducati to come to market with something. Wouldn't that be amazing if VW/Ducati acquired Energica?

I rode an Eva RS last year and it took my breath away. Easily as good as the Tuono V4 Factory and M1000r. I simply couldn't afford to fund it, then they went up £4k on top of earlier this year. At £20k I would have broken the bank for it, at nigh on £30k there was no chance in hell I could justify it, and my mileage would have been around 12k pa. I think the way they should look at it is threefold. ADV, Superbike/Naked and Supersport. The Esse Esse was a bit of a weird one imho - a 120km range Supersport would nail the fat bottom end of the market over the S2 Del Mar (strange bike, horrible handling) and much cheaper Zeros

There are so few riders with electric motorcycles (I've ridden 30,000 km on my bike and have seen exactly one other electric bike...) that we need every electric motorcycle to save us from extinction - at least until the point where it will be completely normal to ride electric bikes because it's the best way to have fun in an environmentally friendly way and not bother people with unnecessary noise.
