We take a look at my reef aquarium, is this the end of my reef aquarium? Something terrible happened and we almost ended up having a reef tank crash. We’ll also do a fun coral unboxing and feed some corals.

*What’s the worst disaster that happend in/with your aquarium? For me it’s probably a heat crash during the summer. 😓💬*

When i was still a beginner, I directly pour salt in my tank which caused to burn my corals. Btw, i never heard heat crash disaster here in my place. My lfs owners have corals that grow healthy in stable 86 Fahrenheit-90 fahrenheit maybe because were in pacific region

An anemone dying in my tank caused almost everything to die too. I think if I had pulled it out sooner it wouldn’t have been as bad but I was trying to nurse it back to health and didn’t have anywhere else to put it.

For me, the worst disaster was due to the lack of light on the island where I live. When I got up, I had lost fish of 300 pains each, about 15 in total. But I learned that we will always be able to recover and start all over again.

Get an anemone guard, that will save you from some headaches. You can get the wave maker to blow directly at the anemone, it might move, or use some ice blocks and gently rub on its foot. Nice save, love your tanks.

I have a Colorado sunburst in my reef, made a rock with a nice crevasse for it to put it's foot in and hasn't moved since I put it there, same with my previous anemone, never moved in 3 years until I removed it
@bluerider0988

I think the tube trick is the best way to not damage the foot. You basically put a tube over the nem to block all the light. It will release and go to the end of the tube to get to light. Search it on the web. I guess I can't post a link because YT is a pain sometimes.

If the foot isnt wedged in too deep use a plasic spoon and slowly scrape at the foot
@coolbeans8424
@coolbeans8424 2 жыл бұрын
An easy method to remove the nem is : -Grab a sharp object (knife) -Try to remove a small part of her foot which is attached to the rock -Quickly put one of your fingers under her foot and slowly but surely try to peel her off If that didn’t work, put a wavemaker directly in front of her, after some hours it will surely start to move, whilst it’s moving the nem is not fully attached to the rock so it will make it 10 times easier to take her out
@peterstenkamp773

A simple spoon will do the trick as well, no need to risk it with a sharp item. They react to the metal and immediately retract from their base.

if you want to remove the anemone, use a small pump, and attach a syringe or pipette tip to the tube, so you create a very directed stream of water. With this you can remove any anemone in any place! Just point the stream of water to the foot.

I never use powerheads on a tank with anemones. it is too much of a risk. you never know when they will split and one of them ends up in it. I have had many disasters, 1 Anemone getting in the powerhead. 2 disasters in moving.- as I didn't set up the tank immediately, power fail when we were away.

@KingAdeft

I can confirm that this works. It works very well actually. I had the anemone I thought I'd never remove without hurting it. Using an ice cube, it came off in about 30 mins. Seems like a long time, but it is well worth not killing the anemone

unfortunately anemones are known to wonder and get caught up in pumps , there are anemone pots you can buy , small clay pots designed to keep them in place , put the anemone in one of the pots , place it in a suitable spot in the tank and the anemone has a secure spot to withdraw into if it needs to

Nah u can use an anemone cover by 3d printer/oem product ,. Or if you want safe money u can basically cover only side of it with bio foam cut it and tied it with cabble ties

Wild acropora that get exposed during low tide are actually mega stressed and fighting for their lives so idk if survive is the right word. Move 50 ft towards the reef that stays wet during low tide and they look 100% better than the ones that get exposed. Its kind of a myth that corals do fine out of water.
@DannysAquariums
@DannysAquariums 2 жыл бұрын
A lot of corals are fine, but yeah others can be quite sensitive. Big LPS corals are sensitive too, when they’re filled with water.
@poor_mansreef8908
@poor_mansreef8908 2 жыл бұрын
@@DannysAquariums they really are not fine though. Go diving when you get a chance and you’ll see how bad it hurts them. They produce a mucus coat to keep them wet and the uv light is seriously hurting them.

Anemones move too much to place in a reef tank with power heads unless they’re all covered with nem guards-not expensive and many people sell 3dprinted versions. Nice save on the reef!
