Working wall is such a great solution for new build and larger commercial jobs. Once you have done one, you get faster and faster everytime. From a commercial build its perfect, ie 100 bathrooms in a hotel build, wall turns up, first fitter install a room in a 1/2 a day to a day (depending o the spec), and can have the tilers in the next day while they start the next room, once tiles the second fit installer come in and finish off without having to worry about the plumbing, fixings. We have seen the residential new build industry also looking at system like these for fast reliable quality bathrooms. I can see these being used more and more in the future.

This is really interesting and similar to a build I did a while ago but with non stock items - this would have made it much easier. So the main concern I have with this system is movement of the substrate/ floor. I’ve been called to fix a few of these systems installed on upper floors of high end Victorian homes that have undergone significant modifications, and re- settled causing too much movement of the base build up; so they leak to floor below. Yes you will get 2-5 years on a timber reinforced floor in good condition, but I’m very hesitant installing this on anything but concrete slab, or unified base that moves floats with the walls. Reinforced Concrete base in first wet room I ever did has lasted over 17 years, no re grouting, no silicon joints, no shower tray liner! It’s all about managing movement, and this can manage a bit but not enough for many London refurbishments, or at least the ton that are done too cheaply, but look stunning, as they have skimped on decent structure.

Hello , been tiling for a few year's, little tip when installing the floor panels use the back of your trowel/ straight edge not notched to key in thinset /tile adhesive then with the notch side have all you notch lines in thinset going the same way ,not swirled ,idea is when you place the floor panels on top you push across trough slightly which collapses the troughs sucking the floor panel down giving far better bond and coverage, same procedure for install tile . Never swirl as it leaves air pockets . I did that for years till a grown up showed me the way 🙂 Hope this makes sense. Thank you for your videos , it's a pleasure to watch you , exceptional tradesman

I'm glad this works for you and is easier; it is some progress it seems. Every time I work on the next step of my home remodel I am disgusted at the way homes are built and I almost lose it. I work in industrial automation and get home to work on some bullshet warped stud wall to hang drywall or a thousand other things. Needless to say I am disgusted at how little standardization there is and how short sighted and low tech houses are. If I made 20 trips to the hardware store for one job and it took 3 times longer than reasonable I would be fired. Home building should be assembly, not craft work (craftsmanship). I like well made things, but the cost and steps to do a little project is ridiculous.

And in Denmark it has been done since the late 60. My house (1972) had a complete bathroom and guest toilet put in in 1 go. Walls roof and everything. The problem is that you must be very carefull installing it. The hous was erect in 1 day when the Base was set. The wall in pieces including electric. Only the outer brick wall installed later. Not the best way to do it. They still put in bathroom complete though. But only in Appartment building. Not in 1 family houses.

Probably not, many years ago ( mid -70s) Architect Sir Basil Spence, approached the company l worked for regarding a project he was involved with which was a pre- fabricated concrete bathroom unit to simply add on to old housing stock ( BISON BUILD ON BATHROOM). The bathroom was to arrive on site completely fitted with appliances and fully plumbed with both hot & cold supplies, and all waste services.. That was fine for similar house types but that soon became evident that variations would kill the project off. Partially assembled units will always be possible but in the main on mass building projects, and one offs.

Very enjoyable video! Can anyone answer please, is the combination waste and vent (drain manifold?) accepted by any model code in the US? Many years ago there was a similar combination system called “Sovent” that was accepted by some codes. Same question on the in-wall or in-floor traps. They appear to be high-tech bell traps which are forbidden in many codes. Overall the idea of a highly prefabbed bath is great but some of the piping practice will be a hard sell to some codes. Also: What is the water piping material used here? It appears to have nicely made bends and does not really resemble PEX.

@danielharris9346
@danielharris9346 3 жыл бұрын
Thermostatic mixing valves usually have a removable plastic cap below the mixed water outlet (to hot tap). When this is removed a hex key port is exposed, to increase the temperature you turn the hex key anti clockwise and to decrease the temperature you turn clockwise. Some valves require an adjustable spanner to adjust the temperature but the principle is just the same.

Jon It wasn't an intentional omission just a drop in the edit. We have another video where this is dealt with in more detail where the tray is fitted but this video was more an overview of the pre-plumbed wall. It is only important on this particular wet room former because of the plastic upstand. That said many people don't bother with the recess and just bring the tiles out on a thicker bed.

For a tile warm up it is fine. You would never use it to heat your house. That would be crazy

I bought one of these MacAlpin air admittance traps. Bathroom basin. What purpose does the wee screw cap part have on the top part of the valve ? Any ? Does is do anything to the performance ? Anyone answer this please cheers

it is a valve to allow air to be sucked in under negative pressure. Leave it alone and it will work

@@SkillBuilder Yes I know how it works I just wondered what the screw cap parts purpose was ? (Maybe just how it’s manufactured) The sink doesn’t drain very well , say for instance when the taps on cleaning teeth it fills up slightly . The waste pipe appears clear beyond the trap. It’s a very tight space, the upheaval of changing the waste pipe (might have build up on it) isn’t appealing to me at present. I’m on a process of elimination. Might try some unblock-er product. It’s a sprung basin plug, not the best for draining imo. Thanks

This is very cool, so how much money will it cost me as the homeowner? Ballpark is good , over here in the states.

It is for mass construction not one off jobs. This is aimed at the developer, the hotel builders and people like that who want 50 bathrooms all the same.

It's nice but I can only see it useable for those customers who can afford systems like this. For the everyday man who is installing, cost is king. I like the idea of identifying hot and cold via colours and like set isolation valves for the whole bathroom but the rest it just too much imo

It is for new build. The idea is that housebuilders use a system that takes away a lot of the variables. It is very popular.

Hi Richard,I’m thinking of installing this system! Was just wondering what kind of weight the toilet can take? Our Liz has put a bit of weight on since lockdown so she has,and was thinking would I need to brace it up to take the extra weight? Thanks.
