The Downieville cross-country isn't your typical XC race. Not only is it a point-to-point race, but the course includes 4,000 feet of climbing and more than 5,000 feet of descending over 25 miles, making it one of the most difficult XC races we've ever done.

i love you guys coz you're not trying to create a KZbin persona it's just a couple/friends riding and everytime ya'll apologize for the noise I'm like "for what" the noise is actually making your video alot more natural which I think gives it a less "set up" feel. I personally like it. most people don't pay attention till u mention it lol ❤

The hardest race I ever did was the Paxson to Cantwell 2 day, 189 mile stage race across the center of Alaska. The spaghetti after the first day gave me digestive issues and the washboard on the road was so brutal that I had blood on my chamois when I got to the finish (if you haven’t dealt with washboard on a road, it’s like riding into quicksand; your speed drops by over 50% instantly. It’s BRUTAL!). It included several mountain passes to climb each day too. Two years after I did it, they made it a single day race and the three guys who finished/won agreed to cross the line together and share the win. It was so brutal they decided that just finishing was winning. I miss those days! Racing in Alaska during the 90s was awesome!

@jimwing.2178
@jimwing.2178 4 жыл бұрын
@@billhackley3540 Right on, Bill. I agree that a healthy 62-year-old can participate in strenuous activities. I am living proof, and I'm not unique or even rare. That said, if at age 63 you are riding daily at the level that you could've at age 32, then I would be EXTREMELY interested in learning more about how you maintain that level of fitness. All running and biking local races around here have Over 50 classes.The Over 50 winners are almost always in the lower 50s, never in the 60s, and typically would finish in the third quartile if competing against the younger adults. Compared to me 30 years ago, my 62-year-old self reacts slower, recovers slower, and heals from injury slower. Is it not the same for you?

Dang dude...while 29 lbs is great for an all mountain bike, if you had lined up on a pure XC bike, like the Orbea Oiz for example, you could have gotten that down to 23-24 lbs with reasonable tires! For Syd, that could have meant a really low finish! VERY impressive to end up where you both did when that's not your primary focus. Now I'm sucked in to see how it goes on day two with those tires. Without seeing anything yet...I'm thinking there's no way you're going to be able to "hold back." You're not wired that way. I'm predicting full send, and I hope it works out!
