‼The no skiing after 12 rule does not make it safe before 12 of course.. Skiing powder at Skyway is just about the most dangerous skiing you can do any time of day, except for maybe the north face of Le Midi. Do not go unless you are prepared to risk your life racing avalanches like the locals: instagram.com/reel/C2dDwJyoBhi/?igsh=NHk5eDloeGYyZ2py

Just wondering, did you do an avi-check before dropping in, or were there any checks done by locals previously that day? Or did you just drop in praying that it wouldn’t rip/you could outrun the avalanche?
@Starky04

The ski cuts at 2:50 were done in attempt to trigger a slab avalanche. That's why he was roped in - if it slid he wouldn't be pulled down by it. That said, I'm just pointing out one of the checks he did, I'm not saying it was enough - I'm not knowledgeable enough to judge that.

After a hiatus of 5-6 years, I had fallen out of love with skiing, its culture, the hyper commercialised resorts, almost nothing resonated with me anymore. I believed I was done with the sport entirely. Last year a friend introduced me to your videos and ski touring and it suddenly clicked. It was a childlike joy all over again. Have logged like 40 days since last year... Not to sound over melodramatic, but I cannot express enough gratitude for how you've help me rediscover and explore a sport I grew up with. You're one of the most inspiring extreme sports athletes of my generation. Keep up the good work!

sounds like you just hate North American resorts. Europe is bigger, longer verticals, cheaper averaging at like 40USD for a day of skiing/cheap ski out hotels due to the amount of them, no lift lines, better lift infrastructure. They usually have like 50 chairs for resorts This is why every good skier in North America ends up ski touring the backcountry

You can do 1000m offpiste runs at Sörenberg/Switzerland and the gondola also runs every 15 min. No stopping at 12 o'clock though 😅 they used to hold a last man standing race there where the gondola started at 30 minute intervalls and then got shorter and shorter.

La Chaussoure in Verbier is ~930 m / 2800 vert and has a constant cabin flow from the bottom, 9:15 - 16:15, taking ~ 6 min 30s for the trip up. If the snow is fresh and there is no one, this is pretty efficient as well.

honest answer? Train as much as possible (i.e. weights, cardio, flexibility) and ski as much as possible. But the number one thing is WHO you are skiing with. All the best non & professional skiers I know ski with people that push them. Only a generational savant can get the the top level alone.

Ski with people better than you. Go to a clinic or take some lessons. Pattern your movements in the gym. (Like the samsara programs) also having a good cardio base helps with endurance. The movement patterning was a game changer for me.

I like your videos for many reasons, the great skiing, the atmosphere and the way you film and produce them. I would like to see a video about everything you use to make them, like you did with your ski gear. What types of cameras and their configurations, the drone, post-production, ... And probably another “behind the scene” type to see how you film on the ground.

This looked scary! More than 30 years ago I was living in Utah, near the end of the 1991/92 season I did 11 (afair...) back-to-back runs down the fall line underneath the Snowbird gondola, hitting the same car every time around. I think this was about 10 km vert in 3+ hours. Probably not doable today due to far more skiers/lift lines. 😞

This is far from the most vert/time you can get. in Val Thorens the cime caron lift takes 4min to do 900m with fill time its more like 5min. so around 10km vert per hour or 32k feet per hour; It is possible to do 1 lap per gondola but it is exhausting. and I am sure there is much more vert/hour elsewhere. Very cool skiing tho
@TravelTheWorld4Ever
@TravelTheWorld4Ever 4 ай бұрын
Cime Caron is really tough to make in my opinion. The long walking disance on the top and the first few meters not beeing especially steep, makes it really hard to catch each and every time. Especially on a little more crowded days when the filling times are usually a bit shorter. But I agree, it's possible. I'd go for Mayerhofen (Ahornbahn) to make it a little easier. Just over 17.000 feet per hour are possible there. 1300 m per run, 4 runs an hour, 7 min time from exit till the next gondola. It's a little less than in ValTho (about 200 m/h), but more realistic to make. I'd only count the traveled hight downwards, so Cime Caron makes up to 5400 m/h (17.7k feet; 6 runs) possible, while Ahornbahn allows for 5200 m/h (17.1 k feet; 4 runs).
