Miles, Andrew, & Nick are back to pop some pussies into pies with... Sweeney Todd!!! Borderline impossible to sing-a-long to, but goddamn did we try our best. Is this Tim Burton's last good movie, or do you not even think it's a good movie? Either way I hope you're wearing a poncho because we bouta get bloody hunny.

Fun fact: our stage production (and many others) used latex gloves filled with blood set just under the neckline of the shirt. When our throats were slashed, we’d grab onto our upper shirt, and blood would shoot everywhere. It was a great time.

I think it's cool how people get innovative with stuff like this. I found a high school production online (it was a lot better than you'd think) and they used a piece of red fabric that the guy playing Sweeney would pull along the throat, acting like it had come out of the person - when he managed to make it seamless, it looked really cool.
@lejohnbrames9392
@lejohnbrames9392 2 жыл бұрын
@@cranberryrosebud that option is MUCH BETTER for a high school production of course. I’ve also seen the prop straight razor be able to dispense some blood by the Sweeney actor pressing a button.
@shelbyyoungest
@shelbyyoungest 2 жыл бұрын
For our production, the handles of the razors were squeezable tubes, and there was a small hole in the razor itself, so as Sweeney squeezed the handle then blood would come out of the hole and drip along the whole razor, and he just dragged it across the victims throats and they’d be completely covered lol

Fun fact: Johnny Depp hadn't sung a full song before this movie. Stephen Sondheim himself was also directly involved in the casting, so Johnny got lessons on singing for this movie. The first song he ever sung for this movie was "My Friends". Honestly, can't imagine anyone else playing the character. He looks the part, and after learning, he sounds great for the part too.

You know I was kinda disappointed hearing an analysis of the music going into how bad the movie singing is considered by people who do Broadway type music and fans of stage shows. But then I heard the version they thought was better and I'm sorry but the singing to the rafters in plays is not good singing, it's necessary. The emotion, pain, and madness in Depp's rendition of They all Deserve to Die is my favorite of all the renditions. Would still recommend watching "How the music of Sweeny Todd spoils the movie(and why that's a good thing) musical language is so fascinating.

@@dragonwaz I love Sideways!! I agree that's a great video to watch ☺️ I believe that when the actors are cast for the musical movies, they're terrific because they put so much emotion, which can also happen in stage musicals. However, in film, you don't have the pressure to sing to the back of the auditorium.

Legitimately all I can think about when watching Sweeney Todd is the fact that a high school in my city did a production of it for their school musical and no word of a lie, some of the students accidentally actually got seriously injured during a throat cutting scene. They did not wrap the razor blade prop up in enough bubble wrap/duct tape apparently and two students had their throats sliced. It was national news in NZ. The song about the birds, while also being my least favorite of the film, actually works when paired with the line "you've been locked out of sight all these years lie me" from my friends. Sweeney is singing to his knives, but when you look at it through the lens of Johanna also being a prisoner, he might as well be singing to her. Especially so when you consider the line "I had hoped to find my wife and daughter waiting for me." When he looks at the knives, he doesn't see them, per se, but he sees the life that he had with them. And when he sees Lovett reflected in them, well, that's just obvious.

The kid that played Toby was the best singer in the whole movie, and that's saying something considering the majority of the performances were quite well done. I remember hearing once that Johnny Depp refused to take any singing lessons in preparation for his role. If true, he's got some natural capability on his side to say the least! Even Sir Alan Rickman did alright for his part, even though he did a little more sing-talking than actual full-on singing. Although I have a hard time picking a single favorite number in this movie, my three that tie for that spot are: "Nothing's Going to Harm You," "Pretty Women," and, "We'll Serve Anyone." I'm assuming those are the titles anyway as I don't recall specifically what each one was entitled. I think you all know which ones I'm indicating either way, though.

What I can't stop thinking about whenever I watch this movie is how pretty much everyone has been in a Harry Potter movie. The simp was young Grindelwald in Deathly Hallows, Sweeney Todd was Fantastic Beasts Grindelwald, The Judge was Snape, The Judges helper was Peter Petigrew, The Pie maker was Bellatrix. It's just funny to me. Snape still obsesses over a girl that doesn't love him and therefore he begins hating the guy she's with.
