This is applied anatomy at a level that most graduate students are not exposed to, yet it's simple enough that everyone can see and understand it. Start incorporating this principle into your chest training and you should see much better results and longevity in your training and chest development.

Hurt my left shoulder when I was 20, making this exact mistake. Can now lift pain free using this pattern. Glad this content is out there and hope your channel blows up!

These have been great for rehabbing scar tissue round my left pec. Could really feel fibres "pop" and "ping" as they went through full extension first few times of doing.

Glad to see you and Brignole can agree on certain movements. Video shows why barbell is suboptimal for pectoral stimulation.
@N1education
@N1education 2 жыл бұрын
All of Doug's chest movements are done in excessive abduction, in fact these "BS" exercises are recommended by him. So yes, I agree the barbell is not the best tool for training your pecs, it's not coming from a place of common understanding of biomechanics and physics. Comically different. Remember this same principle applies to the lats going the other direction, so the "pull-in" is in the BS category as well.

@@N1education im glad you agree Doug Brignoles spreaading false info. I believe you are one of the only if not few science based trainer thats actually legit and producing results rather than just rely on theory. Keep it up

@@N1education how would the pull-in be in the BS category? (genuine question) To my understanding, the lats (esp the thoracic fibers) still perform adduction. Especially in a low degree of humeral elevation. So if you keep the upper arm low when doing the pull-in its a perfectly valid exercise. But I agree that the stupid side bending portion that he does is BS, yes. Paul Carter details this principle of low humeral elevation adduction working the thoracic fibers very well
@N1education
@N1education 2 жыл бұрын
@@thestrengthdoc5371 If that's what Paul said, then I would say I don't agree with Paul on that at all. The thoracic fibers have the greater advantage for extension. They are lengthened around the ribs just like the others, they would have a terrible internal moment arm in a pull-in, and the pull-in has the arm in relative external rotation, which doesn't line up the lats well either. IDK how you would ever come to that conclusion with anything other than a 2D drawing. Like many not great exercises, the Lats are not doing zero in a pull-in motion, but there is no reason to do the exercise for the lats. In fact that type of motion is how we have been able to bias the teres and the posterior deltoid over the lats the most.
@fastedworld
@fastedworld 2 жыл бұрын
@@N1education The movement of humerus during lat PULL-IN exercise is similar to reversed side raises. The teres major assists the lats, just like the supraspinatus assists the side deltoid. If you think that the posterior deltoid is more biased in this exercise then actually Brignole was right about you. In case you didn't know bending your torso sideways is also a function of the lats. So thanks I would stay with the lat-pull exercise.

How come multiple studies *can cite if necc.) report participants being able to lift more and show more abdominal pec activation with wide grips and abducted arms*? Based on this does this mean the abdominal head of the pec has the most leverage with very abducted arms? (*I personally think this is an unnatural and injury prone way to bench but would greatly appreciate your view)

when you say you have your arms tight in the eccentric phase, do you mean only arm extension but also coupled with scapular retraction when doing that movement? I am having trouble realizing what the pecs wrapping around rib cage mean during the eccentric phase.

If someone (me lol) has good outer and lower pec development but poor inner and upper development is there any exercises you would recommend? Thanks!
@N1education
@N1education 2 жыл бұрын
The most applicable thing would probably say to do more sternal pec work. You can’t specifically train the inner portion of it, but that is the divisions that originates where you are likely trying to build.

Thank you for the video 👍 I do high to low cable flies using cuffs ( I put them near my elbows) so I can finish the movement by getting my hands straight and try bringing my biceps near each other … is this a good technique ?
@N1education

cable presses will get you the same or more benefit and ROM than the cuffs with less setup hassle. Just have to position yourself and the pulleys properly.

Kas, hoping you see this! I'm fairly happy with my upper and mid chest, but I've got man boobs. My lower chest sucks. Other than the obvious point that I need to get generally leaner, is there anything I can do to improve my lower chest specifically? Is decline bench worth the time? How about cable flys moving downward? Will these exercises actually improve muscularity in the lower part of my chest, or is this just one of those things that just requires time and weight loss?

Pressing is a poor at best movement for pec development...being since the purpose of the pec is to draw the arm across the chest.......
@N1education
@N1education 2 жыл бұрын
that is only true once the insertion has been pulled towards the front of the rib cage. In the stretched position the pecs are pulling the humerus anterior. Body moves in arcs, not straight lines. Presses are great for the lengthened position, which is associated with the largest hypertrophy magnitude
