Love it Or Hate let's settle the debate on the pros and cons of the V Bar.
As typical of the internet, people like to argue about things in absolute fashion without context. On one hand you will have someone saying that because Arnold or Ronnie Coleman or insert favorite bodybuilder used a certain tool or method, that it is therefore proven to be good. On the other hand you will get pseudo experts "fitfluencers" who read half an abstract or attend a weekend course and think they now know everything and may make the famous X vs Check post saying the V bar is worthless garbage that will give you shoulder cancer and make your lats shrivel to nothing. In fact a few notable names who make a ton of their content by copying things from N1 have even went down this route, so I felt the need to make a video with proper context that can help you decide if the V bar is a tool that you want to include in your training or not.

Great stuff. One thing worth adding, the reason the V handle is popular, other than allowing people to use more weight, is that it allows for more early phase loading in the stretched position (since you go deeper in the long position)

what do you think about pulling with your lats flared during a row with free moving handles? I am thinking atleast in the shortened position it will keep the tension on the lats rather than shift to rear delts. Also curious if you think that style of rowing is training the thoracic portion of the lats in a more lengthened position during the strech?

Totally agree. I feel I have made great progress with mind muscle connection on all major muscles, apart from the rear and medial delt. 15 years of training and I still feel slightly lost with it.

I dont have huge shoulders but I know that cables are the best thing you can do for side delts. Propably best to setup on waist height for lenghtened position and use wrist cuffs. And occssionally use low setup to epmhasize shortened position. For rear delts, rows basically with higher arm angle, not all the way 90° as it hits traps and rhomboids more and not very close to the body because thats more lats somewhere in the middle of those is perfect.

Can you drop where you got those blue straps for the handles? Love the concept of using them for a lat-biased or rear delt biased row.

Hi Kassem, I've noticed that your exercise library on the N1 member site doesn't have any upper traps category, but I've heard you talk about how to train the upper traps in an interview before. Are there plans to add these exercises to the website? Cheers.

So to confirm, for all divisions of the lats wrapping your humerus around your rib cage in the starting position will lengthen them more than just doing straight infront?

I used to do V handle pullups, pulling my chest to the bar and moving my head to one side, which I would alternate on each set. What's the prevailing opinion on that at N1?

The only thing I learned is that the V sucks.
Instagram lost it's $#!+ over a rather simple concept of lat mechanics. Here is a visual to help.
