I am so grateful for the internet some days. No way I would ever find such a compelling lecture in a university, let alone on the history channel. My life is fuller having watched this video. Thank you.

Such a great lecture, the passion for the subject on his side is not only obvious, it elevates the whole presentation and makes it easily digestible to pretty much everyone, even those not familiar with the topic. So anyhow, the theological version of the event is totally wrong, probably just to advance the church's political agenda. The reason behind Yahwe's wish to obliterate the area has absolutely notging to do with s0d0my or any other randomly related "sinful" reasons. It all boils down to Yahwe's superiority complexes, as he couldn't allow any of his followers to chose which "god" to actually follow, so when he was informed that both Sodom's and Gomorrah's citizens chose to worship a different Heloim (probably Baal but I cant really remember right now, and it's not relevant anyway), his reaction was of the "let's kill them all" kind. There are many intresting details to the story, the part I find the most interesting is how the story ends, as after leveling both cities flat he realizes he might have acted a little excessively, as a huge cloud of death (as described in the Torah if literally translated) moved slowly towards their own settlement, leaving behind very peculiar, and deadly effects, not any different from those of today's nuclear radiation, as it describes people's skin melting, severe burns, blindness, and general radiation poisoning. Im not claiming nuclear weapons were used, as we might never know what kind of technology they had, but whatever it was, it was extremely deadly, and definitely the reason the Heloim were regarded as gods.

I wonder if they could estimate the speed of the blast that could most stuff over such a large area. Take the temperature combined with an estimated speed and you could estimate the effects of the air fryer on roids blast on organic and inorganic materials and see how that matches up with the observed evidence.

Haven't watched the whole thing. Does he cover how Lot's wife got smoked and Lot did not simply by facing another direction?

Yeh that would be a hard thing for the God that caused the destruction to pull off, wouldn't it?

No. It doesn't. He did not remark upon finding a single pillar of human shaped salt...

Be Real, Well done savage! 1x1=1 Father, Son, The Holy Spirit - That's who you and I are. We are not this human lifetime of perception as Awareness... Not physical, Spirit. Love Life! Be at onement... Lot's Wife was a pillar of salt. For a reason, she showed Self-Delusion that she wasn't The Holy Spirit.
