My father bought the watch of my choice (a Camel Trophy chronograph) over 30 years ago when I was a kid, then gave it to me when I was like 14 or 15, and I am still loving to wear it. He passed away 13 years ago, so that watch means a lot to me. I know it hasn't been expensive, but its actual value for me can't be expressed in numbers.

My ‘one watch’ would be the Tudor BB58 blue. Why? 1). Right at home in every situation. From the beach to the board room, it never looks out of place 2). It’s extremely high quality, durable and reliable. I have confidence that this piece can be on my wrist for the rest of my life without worry of it failing 3). It has excellent water resistance. For a ‘one watch’, it HAS to be able to handle swimming/diving 4). Perfect price point. My ‘one watch’ will accompany me on all my life’s journeys. So it can’t be like wearing Fort Knox on your wrist and attracting unwanted attention. At around $4,000 It’s not a huge deal if it were to get stolen. Can’t say the same with a $60,000 Nautilus. I could go on and on….. but those are my big reasons.

The Cartier Santos (Medium size): My reasoning, the Cartier Santos has been in style for 100+ years. It looked good during the roaring 20's, Great Depression, WW2, then skip over to the 1980's, 90's, yeah, people still liked it. Plus, many of the most popular watches are based on the Cartier Santos. Even if you wear it in a futuristic setting, I feel like the Santos will still be a classic watch. Will this be the one luxury watch I get, maybe, I'm looking at the Omega Aqua terra, but if I had to go back 50+, or go back 50 years, I would get the Santos.

My one watch choice is the Omega Aqua Terra grey dial ( 2018) on the bracelet. I wear it for work, play, and dress occasions. It is tough and although it has scratches, they are not easily visible. It keeps great time and is anti- magnetic ( Great for when I have to see a patient in the MRI scanner). My wife loves it and always comments on how good it looks. I have even had strangers comment in the watch regarding how good it looks. They are always curious about what brand it is. They know it is not a Rolex but cannot readily identify the maker. They are always surprised and intrigued when I say that it is an Omega.

Do not overlook the latest Santos de Cartier, as it covers a lot of territory. On the bracelet, it's a very sharp sports watch. Very few watches can do that at any price point. The Santos is quite the ultimate travel watch as it's literally 2 watches in one.

Cool choice. My first Rolex was a 1958 Explorer that I bought for £300 - and later sold in Japan for £5,500! That funded my wife’s Datejust and my 1977 GMT Master. I recently sold my Omega Speedmaster that I bought new in 1971 for my 21st birthday … sad to see it go - but it wasn’t being worn enough. Although I have the GMT as my dream watch - in retrospect, I’d go for the Explorer for the same reasons as you … I’d probably miss the date function though. Oh … and the GMT’s second time zone was great when I lived in U.K. and frequently worked in the USA.

And, I especially love the history behind the watch being, essentially, a motor racing watch, that’s gone to the moon.

its a great watch.I purchased it some months ago. I resisted purchasing a speedmaster for quite a while. The clinch for me was the 3861 is slightly smaller, lighter and honestly more elegant and sleeker than the prior models. It simply did not work with that modification. Here is what I think you should do...Get the Watch back and get a new bezel. The 5711 also has a date which is almost a must for me:)

My one-watch-collection would have to meet the following criteria: a fair bit of water resistance (100m will suffice), should have a bracelet for summer and sports, should feature a timeless and tested design, should have a date complication since I need it regularly, should be around 36mm for obvious reasons (since this is a channel about timeless menswear, we can speak freely here: 40mm+ don't do most men's wrists a favor). Oh, and it shouldn't be vintage for peace of mind. All things considered and even though I'm not a real Rolex guy: it must be the Datejust 36 - since few other upmarket brands feature 36mm watches in their portfolio. The current Cartier Santos medium finishes as a close 2nd, only because of the missing date.

It's such a beautifully executed piece and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it as a one-watch piece. For my personal preferences, I would have to go with my vintage Cartier Santos 119901 moon phase. It has beaten every piece in my collection including my Datejust in terms of wrist time. But that's not why I love it: the hybrid between dress and its tactical origins as an aviation watch gives it such a unique look. The thin case, precious metal accents, and roman dial give it class, but the Genta styled integrated bracelet with screws on the bezel preserves its sporty roots. I can wear it with a suit or a bathing suit... though its one drawback being that I wouldn't be too comfortable with it in the water. Great video as always Brian, - Paul from Remont

Solid choice. It would be a shame if I could only have one watch, but if that watch were a Rolex Explorer, I think I could manage. The tougher choice though for all you watch collectors is, which watch would you choose from your existing collection, and that is a tougher task.

My watches might be very modest but they make me very happy, complete and satisfied and are only 2 (I just got into watches literally 3 months ago): Seiko presage Ssa343j1 and Seiko skx009 that I want to upgrade with an Angus jubilee. The first watch was love at the first sight and it’s just so gorgeous, mesmerising and looks great for a dinner out or an evening cocktail and the second one is just perfect for any occasion really or to better say it will be with the jubilee on it which will give to the watch a bit of class as well.

Sir I'm fortunate enough to own several Rolex and Cartier watches. I recently purchased a Casioak half metal and it just makes me smile wearing it. So believe my when say it's refreshing to read your comment and I'm so glad to hear that your "modest watch collection makes you happy. " It's not about the price tag, its about what you have on your wrist, making you smile. I hope you keep wearing your watches in excellent health.

While owning only one watch is not likely for me, if I could only have one, it would be the F P Journe Octa Lune Havana. The watch must be versatile but doesn’t need to really go in the water. It must not only be unique but have exclusivity. It also has to have a beautiful dial paired with a fantastic movement to match. This watch flies under the radar

Great choice, i would choose either this Rolex Explorers or Omega Seamaster 300 co-axial or mid-size. I think these two combines usability and elegance very well.

Explorer 2 ref 16570 Black dial Super comfy and robust piece. Punches well above its weight. GMT functionality for the price hard to beat. Perfect size for my 6.5” wrist. So glad I got black dial which suits most situations.

I’m not a fan of Mercedes hands, so a lot of Rolex models don’t appeal to me. With that being said, it’s difficult to see past an Explorer. It does a lot of things very well, and is so versatile. I’d personally choose the Tudor Black Bay 58, black dial variant. It’s very versatile, tough and reliable, like the Explorer, but the additional water resistance is a bonus in my books. Plus the gilt gives it a warmth I love.

Being a person who especially appreciates watches in the Dive category, I would definitely choose Rolex Sea-Dweller Deepsea 3900 WR, as one watch ever collection. It is already a classic among diving watch enthusiasts and can also be worn every day on any occasion.

For me it's actually impossible to do a 1 watch because of two things: 1) I dive regularly living in an island, 2) My absolute favourite diver is a 39mm Tudor Pelagos. So I need to keep the Pelagos. But it's not a doable option for everything, it's not the diver that you can put a suit on, like a Submariner or even a BB58. So I need to keep also a Rolex Explorer or a Cartier Santos Medium for all other occasions, from sports to dress.

Vostok Komandirskie. Looks great on a tropic. And the mesh bracelets are sweet. And you can get about 200 of them for the price of an explorer.

Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra it's versatile you can wear it with any outfit, it doesn't grab a lot of attention. And most of all I don't have to worry about it getting wet since I work on a medical field and have to wash my hands a lot.

Ooh, for me this is an easy question, no hesitation in saying the Rolex stainless steel Skydweller with the blue dial. A beautiful dial, a glittering fluted white gold bezel to catch the light of candles in a restaurant or the sun by the pool. 100m water resistance, so no issues jumping into that pool, plus the GMT function is incredibly useful for those who travel frequently. The annual calendar function is just slathering icing onto an already delicious cake. Sadly I’ll still be waiting for the AD to call in about seven years’ time!

I love your channel, it's my favorite style channel of the half dozen I follow. Background, I'm a trained Industrial Designer (Watch by Design), retired Marine Aviator, and now retired corporate and international airline pilot GIV, B-757/767/777. I WAS that one watch guy for 30+ years 1983-2015. BTW, no such thing as a one watch COLLECTION... One watch is just a watch, two is a pair and it's at three that you start a collection! Sorry, that's the accepted definition and a pet peeve of mine regarding YT watch people. My one watch if I had to give up my current collection (2018-2022) is my Rolex GMT Master 16750 that I purchased new at the China Fleet Club (the now defunct British Military Exchange in Hong Kong). You're too young to remember, but back in the day this WAS the place for military personal to buy a Rolex, as they were a full 50% off of retail USA price. In Dec. '83 a Pepsi was $900 USD in the States, but $450 at the CFC. However, the exchange system was having a 10% off Christmas sale, so I got the watch for $405 out the door! I wore this watch 24/7, 365 for the first 22 years! I met my wife while wearing this watch (a beautiful redhead, you can relate), got married (dress blues), only son born and spent most of my career and life events while wearing this watch. My other watches include my two tone Sky Dweller, (my retirement watch, also purchased in HKG), Submariner (114060), always my favorite and the watch I intended to buy in '83 when the Pepsi stole my heart, Reverso Grand 976, Speedmaster Pro 1861 (I was 13 in 1969 and a big space fan) and my Parmigiani Tonda 1950, white Gold, ivory dial, and my classic dress (black tie) watch. FWIW, the ALS 1815 Chronograph is still my attainable grail, as the Philippe Dufour Simplicity in rose Gold is unobtainable!😉

Reverso Ultra Thin Duo. For one, it was bought with a fond memory, and it works from sneakers to oxfords. Before your reveal, I thought the Explorer would be my second option for the same versatility. However, it also captures the charm of a watchman's watch and is only appreciated by the ones in the know.

With insurance: Rolex Datejust Wimbledon (because I love tennis, I love Roger Federer, I love Wimbledon and solid versatility in workplace as well as party scenarios and something tells its gonna increase in its value with time) Without insurance: Tissot Gentleman in blue on a bracelet ( everything you could ask for in a watch, versatility, solid case design, great fit, solid serviceable movement, pairs with anything, good weight and great name of the brand)

If I had to choose one watch out of my collection it would be my Tudor BB58 on the bracelet. I got it for my 18th, it was my first luxury piece, and most of all it is incredibly comfortable. I think it fits my vintage tastes well and doesn't call too much attention to itself. All around a fantastic watch :)

Count me in on the Rolex Explorer. Its span of versatility is vast, understated yet speaks quality a lot. Other candidates could be a Grand Seiko SBGW033. Equipped with super reliable movement. It can be a bit slimmer, though. The other one would be JLC Master Reverse de Marche. Perfect size (the lug to lug is more important than case diameter), but certainly with higher cost of service.

Great choice, at least coming from someone who almost nothing about watches. I'm still saving up for a nice watch, but something with a similar simplicity and versatility would be my choice, too. Thanks, Brian, as always.

Rolex Explorer is the first luxury watch I bought in 2013, and I thought it was the only luxury watch I needed. It is versatile and beautiful until my wife bought me a JLC Reverso Duoface as a gift for our wedding anniversary. Now it's my favorite watch. I think the Reverso is both classy and sporty and more interesting than the Explorer. I pick JLC Reverso Duoface for my One-Watch Collection.

My one watch would be the AP royal oak, if only I had the means lol, the watch is out of the box yet timeless is functional and beautiful but not over the top, it’s a sports watch. (according to AP) but can be dressed up. A nice versatile watch overall

My desire choice is the Omega Seamaster 300, it has been my ultimate watch since I first saw it from a jeweler that had purchased two watches from. Putting it on the first time had a great fit and style with my daily wear. Now I am saving the funds for it at the price he had set for me.

Agree with you Bryan. The Explorer really is comfortable in any situation. Put a black alligator strap on it and it looks phenomenal with a suit. My choice is a bit strange but I have such a connection with my Jaeger Lecoultre Reverso that I would have to god for it. Created as a sport watch (granted I would not take it skiing lol), it is the epitomy of a dress watch and is surprisingly at ease with a pair of jeans and a tshirt. Its dial calls for a black alligator or cognac alligator strap (my favourite) and even beads of rice bracelet looks awesome on it. Sure I won't be running a marathon with that watch on my wrist, but that's ok :-)

I really thought it would be the Datograph. It fits the description. For me, I would go with one of the GMT quartz Grand Seikos. SBGN001 or SBGN003 or SBGN005. I love quartz watches as they way more practical and durable than automatics and this is the best quartz in the world, they have great water resistance (100 m) and can be dressed or down. Really hope to own one one day.
@adrianobanak28243 жыл бұрын
Good choice. My choice would be new 2021 Speedmaster SS. History and legacy behind this watch is second to none. It can be dress watch, casual watch and if you put on NATO strap a sports watch. And it's a chronograph.

Casio a158w. Small slim and on a bracelet. Matching the suit and shorts. Precise and water resist enough. It’s not bulletproof but cheap enough not to worry about it while working in a garage. Also have big nostalgia vibe and it’s great conversation starter.

I would choose the Tudor Black Bay Steel. It is timeless yet contemporary. Versatile. Manly. And it is not stigmatized as can be the case for many similarly pedigree Rolex watches.

Tell me if I’m wrong but it’s not a hi-beat movement in the explorer like you say in 5:41 but a 4hz movement… My one watch collection is my Zenith Chronomaster Sport that does everything for me and is a actual hi-beat movement and keeps time like no other automatic watch I owned 🤩🙏⌚️

If I had to choose right now, I'd go with a new 38mm Omega AT w/ a black dial. First would want something sporty enough that it would easily be an everyday watch, but could quickly without much fuss be dressed up for a business or night out. I really love the Explorer you chose and really is a toss up between the two, but feeling the AT more this morning. Also adore the new AT GMT, but it fell out of the running because yeah, if I only have 1 watch it needs to be more understated and timeless. I'd put the base AT and Explorer in that category. Thanks Brian!
