Breaking down the June 2002 trade between Montréal and Cleveland that sent Bartolo Colon north of the border, and how it's still helping the Guardians today. Game footage does not belong to me #baseball #tradetree

This thing is insane. You can update it in 10 years and there will still be active players.

Giminez is still pretty young and if he gets traded at some point this thing can continue on

Great video! You should do the Emmanuel Clase trade tree, goes all the way back to 1977 and has a chance to break the all-time record for longest trade tree (Clase or someone he's traded for has to make it in MLB until 2030 I believe). With Clase at peak value now, I'd love to see Cleveland trade him this off-season and extend the tree further.

Could you take a look at the Mark Teixeira trade tree. It's move that the Rangers still see massive benefit from to this day as three players from their World Series team are a part of it (Jonah Heim, Nathaniel Lowe, and Brock Burke).
@matthewcollins86029 ай бұрын
How many times did the Rangers go through rebuilds and the postseason following that trade? The 2010 & 2011 World Series come to mind. Good to see they finally got a championship though.

The Braves got boned twice from Mark. When they traded him the next year, the Angels got Mike Trout from the compensation pick for letting Teixeira walk.
@InessentialMotionPictures6 ай бұрын
@@jeffersonia While this oft-cited factoid is interesting, the premise is overblown. The Braves had the #14 in the 2009 Amateur Draft which they used to select Mike Minor. With Mike Trout not going until #25 overall, it’s not like the Braves didn’t have their shot at him.

Great content, excellent job with the thoroughness while still being concise. 10/10

This is very good stuff. 2 pieces of advice: 1) check pronunciations (Mark Sha-PIE-row) 2) Way too many numbers. I know it’s interesting but you don’t need to do 3 minutes on Brandon Phillips in CLE. It could be 2 sentences. “Brandon Phillips made his major league debut at 21, but this wasn’t the Brandon Phillips you know. He struggled to make a regular roster spot and was traded away…” Overall this has a ton of potential but if you make it a little less dry it will get so much better so fast!

Nice video. Obviously the Colon trade is pretty well known but I didn't know the extent of the tree. Also I somehow never knew there was a third Drew brother until I watched this.

Really enjoyed the content and your breakdown of the trade tree. I wish there was less footage of the camera on you clearly reading from a script, doing so would probably help your watch time and this channel altogether. Great vid.

I think the only thing Jason Donald is known for now is being the player who caused the blown call in Armando Gallaraga's 28 out perfect game

Funny thing is Colon almost became an Expo years earlier. Before 98, he and Jaret Wright were almost sent to Montreal, with Pedro Martinez heading to Cleveland. But the Indians got cold feet about moving Wright after his strong 97 playoff performance.

It’s a bad trade and a horrible trade. But, there is some justification behind it. The expos had no future. So try to go all in when you are still in Montreal

It's pretty crazy that Bauer is blackballed from MLB. Look, I'm no Bauer fan; but he was never convicted in a court of law. Seems like people who have done much worse have been welcomed back into MLB. The dude must be a real a-hole to have burned so many bridges.
@DjDrake_89 ай бұрын
If I recall Kenny Williams was able to get El Duke from the Yankees in a 3 team trade that included a year of Antonio Osuna and a Minor Leaguer who never made the majors, not really interesting to talk about I imagine so I can see why you just glossed over it
@zeeks239 ай бұрын
Yeah it's essentially a 3 team trade with the Yankees, but it's officially 2 separate trades on the same day so I ignored the Yankees side of it.

That was such a BS move threatening to contract from MIN. Selig was the commissioner at the time and his Brewers would have greatly benefitted.

I’m gonna do a longer video getting into all the chaos around the 2001 contraction vote soon. There were a few motivations around why the Twins were chosen, some valid and some questionable.
