That looks like a really nice set up. I just bought a 50 gal Rheem and with local rebates and tax credits it as less than a quality standard heater. I’m sure that room is plenty big but people need to remember that when a unit requires 700 cubic feet that means an empty space not one filled with boxes etc.
@mechanical-hub
@mechanical-hub 14 күн бұрын
Yeah, it's all about the space, the unit has to be able to breathe to perform.

Nice work!!! Would love to see an installation where the heat pump is in series with something like a marathon. Thanks for sharing!

@@mechanical-hub availibity of hot water/storage. I've got a rheem 80 gal heat pump. I also have teenage kids. We burn through 80 gallons more often than I like. I only have it on heat pump mode so recovery takes longer. Also to have storage in case power went out. Thoughts??? Thanks!

Great video. How loud is the heat pump especially during the initial start-up?
@mechanical-hub
@mechanical-hub 9 күн бұрын
Not loud enough to inhibit normal conversation. Power vent water heaters are considerably louder, I don't have decibel rating but I was surprised at how quiet it is. At some point it's actually running in this video but my mic didn't even pick it up.

What brand is the temperature mixing valve? Stainless steel with temperature gauge looks awesome.
@mechanical-hub
@mechanical-hub 9 күн бұрын
It's a Caleffi mixing valve, Angle Mix. All brass body.

I know they make 3 sizes of this Rinnia heat pump water heater and I know I wouldn't need the 80 gallon version for my application. I'm building a 1500sq-ft ranch 3bd 2ba in the spring for just my wife and I. What size do you think would be appropriate for our home?
@mechanical-hub
@mechanical-hub 13 күн бұрын
A 50 if you’ve got regular showers/tub. The challenge is recovery and mode settings. If you think you’re on the edge of what a 50 can provide then a 65 would be a nice upgrade

Is the drain valve a full bore ball valve? The typical washer type valves clog. What do you think of electric anodes?
@mechanical-hub
@mechanical-hub 13 күн бұрын
It’s not a full port valve, I haven’t seen any of the ball type from the factory that are unfortunately. Electric anodes are great, I offer them to all my clients on well water especially.

So how many btu s of cooling are you going to be producing so your heater will have to reheat

I'm curious how the noise level of the compressor compares to current generation rheem heat pump water heaters. Also, how do you clean the air filter? I don't see where it's accessed in the video. Is this model likely to be available at Home Depot or Lowes nationwide soon or will it need to be ordered directly by plumbers?
@mechanical-hub
@mechanical-hub 14 күн бұрын
I don't know the dB ratings for the Rheem or this model specifically, I can say it's extremely quiet and requires no effort to talk over. It's no louder than most refrigerators imo. Not sure on distribution, I wouldn't way it's a DIY product.

@@mechanical-hub"I wouldn't way"? Not trying to call out typos, just trying to understand what you are saying? These look pretty DIY friendly to install, assuming someone is comfortable with a few different aspects. Maybe you were saying it wasn't?

hi, in Australia we have Rinnai Hydraheat 275L hotwater heatpump with a exhast fan on top instead of the side. and the evaporator is all around. Do you think having more wider evaporator is better compared to whats yours ? whats the advantage of having bigger wider evaporator vs smaller evaporator? thank you

I have a client that was inquiring about one of these for a lake house type of situation, its not always occupied, Are these a good fit for that type of situation? They come and go but not on a schedule, is the vacation mode be able to set and indefinitely, not on a schedule? Are there remote wifi controls to turn it on from before the get there?

FYI, existing is a 40 gallon propane at this property
@mechanical-hub
@mechanical-hub 12 күн бұрын
It’s not wifi so they’d have to set a start and end time for vacation mode. If they set it to end vacation for the morning they return then it wouldn’t run when away. Otherwise it would sit idle and run as needed. Wouldn’t use much energy if in heat pump only mode I suppose.

How much condensate do they generate and does it require a drain for the condensation?
@mechanical-hub
@mechanical-hub 13 күн бұрын
Amount will vary based on load and humidity in the space. Yes, it’s needs a drain or a pump to a drain.

What is the advantage of this over a gas water heater. I imagine this is quite expensive. If it less expensive to operate over gas, it may take 10+ years to break even.
@mechanical-hub
@mechanical-hub 11 күн бұрын
Imo it only makes sense if you already have an electric water heater. If you have gas then tankless can lower operating costs in some cases.

This water heater works just like every other electric tank water heater as well, it would absolutely work in a garage if your climate allows that type of install. If you're installing water heaters in garages your winters are not cold.
