When I transitioned, trying to detangle the relaxed hair from the natural hair after washing was so bad that I at one point literally almost cried. It was a nightmare, I dreaded having to do my hair. The only way it would be easy is if you braided it up, and kept it braided for at least a year. Washing and conditioning it in the braids. I was so happy when I had enough new growth to finally big chop!

I just did the ends gradually. Now my ends are healthy ni more relaxer.

Doing a big chop was much better for me too! With my transition, I did in fact cry and soon after that I cut it all off. Best thing I ever did 😊. It was personally a liberating experience and I finally got to know my hair from scratch. I know the variety of curls better and I know what works and what doesn't. It was much harder transitioning.

Hi, it's nice to put a face to the voice I've been listening to a while now, beautiful too.

I transitioned by circumstance for almost a year then cut off the relaxed hair. It worked well. It's been quite a journey. I love my curls, coils, kinks and Lord...straight (yep)! hair.

I did the same just kept it braided and every time I took them out I snipped off the relaxed ends. Didn’t take long at all.

@@niquefarrington5940 This is what I did as well. I don’t add extension hair to my braids anymore but back when I transitioned I would wear them for two months and washed my hair every two weeks with the braided extensions in while they were installed. When I took them down, I would have my mom snip off a little of the relaxed ends. I don’t remember how long it took exactly to have relaxer-free tresses doing it this way but I do believe it was less than a year. 👍

Until it splits up the shaft I did this and it was not worth it the big chop is better for healthy growth .
@Queenmandi1 Жыл бұрын
That’s because even though you’re transitioning trims are essential to combat those split ends

Yes, transitioning for me was the easiest way to go. I wore bun pieces and when my natural hair got to a length, I was comfortable with I chopped off the relaxed end and it was just beautiful. But med and stress has wreaked havoc over my mane and it nowhere like it did then

I did after my brother died in 2018. Between working graveyard, taking care of him my relaxed hair took a hit. It was awful. So in 2019 in December I quit relaxing. I forgot how my natural hair was! I took off the relaxed ends gradually and kept it in a high no stress bun. I silk it and its growing like crazy. Its thick again use a hot oil once a week with conditioner take vitamin b complex magnesium with d and another d vitamin plus use shampoo and conditioner with biotin, coffee etc.

My transition period lasted about 15 months. I was really trying to go for the long run. DEFINITELY WAS NOT EASY. Ngl sometimes I was so tempted to big chop but held out the best I could. It helped to gradually cut some of the relaxed hair gradually every 3-4 months. By month 15, my relaxed hair felt so gummy and I begged my sister to help me big chop XD.

I tried transitioning, just got the whole thing relaxed again yesterday 😭

Oh no! I transition and of course it was a learning curve and you do have to kind of keep your hair sectioned off for shampooing and detangling and all of that.

Awe now they got class claim against the relaxer makers. So your natural hair is waiting for you for you when you ready to let it out again

Idk I've been doing it for 6 months of transitioning. From my experience, your dealing with two different textures. And they require different needs. Detangling is a pain if I'm not using a bunch of conditioner lol, but my parents are worried that having shorter hair will mean more work

I stopped relaxing in 2013, I transitioned for 19 months, was going for 2 years like Shanique who use to be called JourneyToWaistLengthHair but....the ends and the line of demarcation was too much. I was seeing breakage.

I didn't transition on purpose, I didn't know what I was doing for a year, then I moved and wanted to do my hair to keep myself calm. My favorite cousin walked me through cutting it, and ten minutes later I flushed my straight ends down the toilet and felt awesome!

Lol, transitioning is definitely NOT easier, especially when you have very tightly coiled hair "4C". Knots and tangles for days.

“The easy method?” Y’all, I really wish Black people would step back and look at how petty we are toward each other. It’s so unproductive and unnecessary 🤦🏾♀️ Easy, hard-who cares! To anyone transitioning, I’ve found that all Melanin Haircare products work well on my relaxed and natural hair (type 2, 3 and 4). Aussie Moist conditioner is pretty good too, but do a patch test 24-48 hours before using it for the first time. I’m not sure if it was the Aussie or the Shea Moisture I used this last time that set my skin on fire 😳

Don’t cut your hair, I was so heartbroken once cause I damaged my hair so much that I ended up with straight ends and falling out that I thought I would have to just cut the straight ends, but I have managed to slowly bring my hair back to life after about a year
