I've just discovered this channel and I find it absolutely amazing! so informative, such a great vibe you have. I absolutely love wolf spiders. Please, keep posting videos. They make my day and I'm sure it's the same situation with all the viewers.

@@ShayLiam thank you so much! It means a lot! I have a gravid female wolf spider and I may make a video with her and few other things I have going. They just take so much time to make.

It’s sad cause I bet they could have great homes if we’re we able to care for them properly(knew how to). Some animals are just meant to stay wild and it’s as simple as that.

I agree. I wouldn’t get them again and I am way more cautious now at the expos here not to make that mistake again. Honestly it was breaking my heart to watch them looking for food.

Beautiful wolf spiders and those trilobite beetles are out of this world! Too bad their care and breeding isn’t understood.

I know such a bummer about the beetles. I felt guilty just looking at them. Do you keep any wolfs? Glad you like the video, thank you!!!

I don’t know how well they did or if you still have them, but when you first showed the beetles in the purchase containers they looked to me to be in poor condition, but they looked like they got better and thrived in the set up you put them in ! ❤️ Beautiful creatures !

They only lasted for short bit, couple of months. Wouldn’t get them again. And def the people who sell them they don’t care much.

i live in country where these trilobites are found, and nobody keep them because we still don't know exactly what they dietary is, it's not as simple as providing native rotten wood because there is so many wood species and even if its the exact wood we may not be able to maintain whatever bacteria/fungus it contained inside captivity. from time to time people find them in nature and asking what to feed them and we just simply say its unknown and they should release it back. its the same case with some beetles and giant pillbug, they are just not meant to be kept in captivity. personally i wouldn't buy anything from a seller that has these animals in their stock.

I fully agree, it was a mistake on my part not doing proper research. Lesson learned. Not looking for excuse but I didn't even expect someone would be selling animals you can't care for.
@babixillo

@@SpiderCafe i would have picked them up too if i didn't know, they are just too cool to ignore! and yeah the reality is many exotics sellers are just seller who buy them for cheap from hunters, legal or not. they are not animal lovers.

Yeah, wolf spiders are the best. It won't let me reply to your comment, so I guess I have to make another.. I'm trying to keep H. carolinensis going, and H. antelucana, and G. missouriensis, hopefully one of these is female and I can find a male next season. My female even had a trapped door, never seen that before. Was just a leaf on a hinge but still. I've seen them completely sealed in the wild with silk, so I guess they can. Careful lol, I'm sure you know the sacs keep coming 😂 I had 900 slings in here at one point from just the 3 females, one of each species. About to have to rehouse ~90 H. carolinensis into 32oz or maybe just go out back with a dowel and make starter burrows 3 feet apart lol. Getting cold though.

Haha I know I bred H madeirana before. I asked my buddy who is a scientist and they will take most of the slings from me. Only keeping two breeding projects at the time- the huntsman Rhitymna and the wolfs. It was too much when I was breeding more than that. That’s crazy you had 900 😆 full time job And very interesting about the trap door, my Hogna lenta was good at hiding underground and popping up when food was near.

What I've read about trilobite beetles is that, because they are net-wing beetles, the males most likely eat nectar as adults or nothing at all, while the females, staying in their larval stage their whole lives, eat decaying wood slurry and tiny mites that live inside the wood. I don't think they eat snails, but you might could make a setup that includes tiny snails to see if they eat them. If nothing else, the snails would work as decomposers to help break down the wood and plants into food for the beetles. I kind of agree with you about not wanting to take an individual out of the wild unless you plan to breed them. It's kind of a shame to take something out of the wild just for it to die. However, and this is a big 'however', if you are willing to take the time to study them, you could end up being a huge contributor in keeping these incredible and beautiful species as pets. You'll just have to expect a lot of deaths in the process, sadly.

Great information. It would make sense the adult males feed in nectar. I decided to pass on trying to figure it out. I don’t have what it takes to go through many dead bugs and they are also not cheap. I hope one day someone can figure it out, hopefully in their native land and we can keep these incredibly interesting creatures successfully. 🤚🏻 Thank you for your comment.

Wolf spiders are great little fly catchers lol. Only time anything gets wild food is when I have flies in here in the summer. I'll open a couple wolf spiders and set them on the desk next to me, get a laugh every time a pesky fly finally goes down. Good luck with the Geolycosa, pretty species and quite the patterning for Geolycosa! I found a gravid G. missouriensis and she dropped a sac of like 70 and I have no clue why, but most of them died, then she died shortly after of old age, so maybe just a weak sac or something. I do have 2 slings though that made it, with 1" turrets coming out of 1/2" of substrate 😂

Haha great strategy with the flies, i may have to steal it :) . Wolfs are probably the most underrated spiders. So fun to watch and so easy to keep. Thank you- hope to get some Geolycosa babies. My L praegrandis male is also growing pretty fast so i will try to pair him up too if the female makes it.
