I'm really curious about what their strategy is. Partnerships? What will stop Waymo and other competitors to leverage Uber for now and then jump ship when they scale? Any other options beyond partnerships? Do they have the power/time to invest in their own fleet of self-driving cars?

@@ilmagodiloz network effects are Uber's biggest moat. If every AV company has a separate app, they will all have long wait times. With Uber, the combined network of all of them provides for a better user experience. Waymo currently does 150k rides per week, while Uber does 28 million in a day. Even if Waymo just tries to cover certain markets, it will be hard for them to have enough cars to compete. It makes more sense to partner with Uber. The problem is that an AI agent also solves this problem. "Hey Siri, book me a ride" would eliminate this issue.

Uber is at point of creating strong networking effect, if their ads will be at least half as effective as google ad sense (I've came across revenue 60$ per user per year) then we're talking about 4.5bln$ of basically clear profit per year (150mln users) We have to remember though that total retained earnings for uber is -27.6bln$ so they have plenty of money to earn to be called a profitable business

It could be a horrible purchase as well. It depends on how they adapt with the times I feel they’re behind . Could be a niche company here and gone within a short time . They will still have the food delivery

@@wulfem I wouldn't be so sure. Tesla might not want to be in the business of dealing with all of the issues and headaches that come with operating a taxi company. If they feel Uber is offering them a fair price, then it might make sense for them to partner for their network. It's similar to large businesses partnering with AWS instead of building out their own datacenters.

I had to already pause because you said full self driving good be good for Uber they can license it and use it…. But I don’t see that as good because they’d now have to spend money on fleets of cars whereas their current drivers bring their own car . Self driving isn’t going to replace uber or people there is still going to be people driving along side self driving vehicles . The self driving robot taxi is going to generate the most profit so over time uber will fail unless they come up with a plan to release their own fleet of cars and again that’s another expensive task and it’s new for them lots to learn , problems will arise, they’ll probably just buy robo taxis and put uber stickers on them. Thinking long on uber , their model will be dead within the next 10 years and they’ll have to have fleets of cars and then they have to lease land / storage for the cars , clean and maintain , it’s another business . They’re probably done. I feel like Tesla would destroy this sector cause they have economies of scale they can blast these cars out for cheap . Can’t compete with that and they also own the self driving technology. Sad part is uber provided good extra income for people. They might only have the food delivery after .

Personally, I don't think it is undervalued, however with the recent exit of GM Cruise from the market, and the tremendous backlash against Elon (and it will get worse), it think it has a chance now

not true. if uber competes, their price will skyrocket. Uber. is already a trustworthy brand. its not like its some brand new company... Waymo cars are being vandalized in my area. imo i think uber is waiting and seeing how the markket responds to the driverless cars.. i think in 5 years or more it may be more common, not now tho..

As a customer, I would never use autonomous robotaxi, prefer to uber if I had the choice, despite price differences.. don’t trust it. And it will take at least a decade at least to change the majority of people’s habits.

@@BullRunBytes I would see the data first, and if it's proven to be as safe or safer than human, I'll take it. I often don't trust human drivers. Especially at 3am I don't know if the driver has taken proper sleep or not
